Participants in the Mad King’s games will receive holiday treats, and those who complete his challenge will get one of this year’s two Halloween masks. The Mad King Thorn!

Who is Mad King Thorn?

The Mad King Thorn will begin showing up in Lion's Arch and Kamadan 5 times a day starting from Monday 31st October, so if you missed him during the whole event... unlucky. Because he's not coming back... till next year.

Mad King Thorn appears in the same mushroom circle area in both Lion's Arch and Kamadan. Undead horsemen "Heralds" routinely warned travellers of their master's impending arrival in both cities. They however are simply scripted NPCs and not very accurate.

When does he show up?

Starting from Monday October 31st, Mad King Thorn makes appearances every three hours throughout the day in Lion's Arch and Kamadan. His first appearance will take place at 12:01AM Pacific Time and his final appearance be at on Tuesday November 1st at 12.01AM Pacific Time. For a total of 9 appearances.

Mad King Thorn's Games - Primary Phases

The name of the Mad King pretty much speaks for itself, he's completely insane! So besides really bad jokes, he also beckons players to join in his games. The Mad King will go through three phases of games before giving out a prize and then leaving. The primary phases are:

Notes: Deaths during the finale do not count against the Survivor title.

Phase 1 - Do as the Mad King Commands, or die...

After some minor introductions from the Mad King, he wastes no time to get everyone there to entertain him.

A number of things will be asked:
  • He will tell jokes (Bad ones) and expect everyone within the green circle area to use /laugh
  • He will command everyone to play music, so /flute or /drums for example.
  • Or he may just ask everyone to /beg.

Those who followed his orders were rewarded with Halloween collectable items (See section later in the guide for more info), but those who don't will be killed on the spot!

Phase 2 - Lethal Rock, Paper and Scissors - win or die...

In this phase, the Mad King will challenging a random member of the crowd to a game of Lethal game of rock, paper and scissors.

Use the command /rock, /paper or /scissors and hope for the best.

If you win, you will be rewarded with a a Trick-or-Treat Bag. Nothing happens if you tie with the King. Losing, however results in... you guessed it, death!

The Mad King will do a few rounds of this game before going to Phase 1 again.

Phase 3 - The Mad King says.... Likely more death!

After a few rounds of Phase 1 and Phase 2 games, the Mad King will then begin the final phase of the games... a few simple games of Simon Says!

Anyone who played this game in real life knows how it works: if the King says "Mad King says Jump!” you have about three seconds to do it, or die.

The emotes which are bolded in the list below, are the ones which you must do as he says. Ignore the others:

Once inside the underworld you will still have the effect of Transmogrifier Tonic, your skill bar will have the following available:

The north-east door out of the central chamber will be open. Head through this door and on into the Ice Wastes. At the far west end of the Wastes is the Hall of Judgment, where King Frozenwind awaits you.

All the normal enemies of the Underworld are still there, but you will have a special skill bar with skills uniquely suited to running past them.

You should be able to get past most enemies using only Sugar Rush, although Sticky Ground can be helpful in some spots. Coldfire Nights, however, can slow you down immensely with Shard Storm, so you'll probably want to neutralize them with The Mad King's Influence.

Use a Transmogrifier Tonic and speak to the Voice of Grenth and gain audience in the Underworld as an agent of the Mad King.

Once inside the underworld you will still have the effect of Transmogrifier Tonic, your skill-bar will be the same as the last quest - by now you should have a good idea of how the skills work.

In short you need to travel about and visit all 7 Reapers of the underworld. Most areas can be handled easily with the skills available. Make good use of The Mad King's Influence if the going gets tough.

Take special care in the Bone Pits area, where the mobs can cause massive amounts of health degen with long lasting hexes. Use knock-down on single mobs and The Mad King's Influence if possible when many are clumped together.

Most people recommend completing the Bone Pits are first, as the rest of the quest is easy compared to it.

Above all else, go slowly and watch the patrols.

Quest Log:

Enter the Underworld as normal and complete all the quests the Reapers give you. When they are complete, walk towards the Hall of Judgement and accept the quest from King Frozenwind before entering the now open door of the Hall of Judgement. Upon entering, the party will encounter Dhuum. He will initially be an allied NPC, but after the entire party enters he will become hostile.

At that point, the doors to the Hall will close and the party forced to fight him. At the same time, every Reaper of Grenth will appear in a large radius next to the walls of the Hall and continuously cast Dhuum's Rest, also a Dhuum's Rest bar will appear to show the progression on putting Dhuum to rest.

After the Dhuum's Rest bar is finished, all Reapers will stop using Dhuum's Rest and begin to attack Dhuum, the Dhuum's Rest skill will have no effect from this point. Continue damaging Dhuum until he has 25% health and then talk to King Frozenwind for your reward.

Defeating Dhuum requires careful planning, strategy and team work. It's highly recommend you read the following Wiki page for a general idea of what you need to do BEFORE attempting this as the time investment for the Underworld is great:

  • Geoffrey the Butler is in Kessex Peak, just inside the portal. After his very short dialogue, he will run away. He will stop to heal himself, though, so flag heroes/henchmen behind him before triggering the dialogue and you should be able to kill him before he gets away.

Reward:

1,000 Gold
50 Trick-or-Treat Bags

--------------------------------------------

Commandeering a Mortal Vessel

Summary:
  1. Travel to Majesty's Rest and enter The Mausoleum.
  2. Search the mausoleum for a sarcophagus worthy of a king.
  3. See The Countess of Hakewood for your reward.
Obtained from:

The Countess of Hakewood in Lion's Arch

Requirements:

Heirlooms of the Mad King

Quest log:

When you enter Majesty's Rest, three Mad King's Guards will spawn with you. To enter The Mausoleum, you must "speak" with the Enter the Mausoleum NPC, which is located behind Rotscale. It is not necessary to kill Rotscale, however — as long as someone can reach the NPC and click through the dialogue, you will be transported into the Mausoleum.

The Mausoleum itself is populated with large groups of undead that are packed fairly close together. Careful pulling should be employed to separate the groups, otherwise your party may be overwhelmed.

There are 5 Elegant Sarcophagi in the Mausoleum. The "correct" sarcophagus is assigned randomly each time, and the other sarcophagi will spawn an undead. After finding the one that updates the quest, you can return to Lion's Arch.

Reward:
  • 10,000 XP
  • 1,500 Gold
  • 100 Trick-or-Treat Bags

--------------------------------------------

An Ingenious Plan

Summary:
  1. Defeat the Ingenious Ettins. You have 5...0 of 5 remaining.
  2. See The Countess of Hakewood for your reward.

Obtained from:

The Countess of Hakewood in Lion's Arch

Requirements:

Commandeering a Mortal Vessel

Quest log:

The Ingenious Ettins spawn at the same points as the normal hydra and ettin bosses on Perdition Rock (see map at right), with 2 of them spawning at the southwestern point. They spawn in addition to the normal group of ettins and hydras at that point, which may include a boss.

Be careful of over-aggro, especially at the very beginning where multiple groups of Mahgo Hydras and Flesh Golems patrol in overlapping paths. If you are familiar with Perdition Rock, then this quest should present no special difficulties.

Reward:
  • 15,000 XP
  • 2,500 Gold
  • 100 Trick-or-Treat Bags

--------------------------------------------

The Emissary of King Thorn of Kryta in Kamadan

Til Death Do Us Part...

Summary:
  1. Speak with Princess Zola in Resplendent Makuun.
  2. Defeat three of Princess Zola's suitors. You have 3...0 remaining.
  3. Return to Princess Zola and inform her that she is now free from her suitors.
  4. See Emissary of King Thorn of Kryta for your reward.

Obtained from:

Emissary of King Thorn of Kryta in Kamadan, Jewel of Istan

Quest Log:

Enter Resplendent Makuun from Honur Hill and walk to the Palace of Bokka. After conversing with Zola's spirit, numerous Suitors and accompanying undead will spawn around the palace. The easiest 3 to reach are:
  1. Outside the entrance to Bokka Amphitheatre, to the south.
  2. Just inside the palace entrance, to the west.
  3. East of the portal to Honur Hill.

Only the Suitor must be defeated to update the quest. After killing them, return to Zola for a short dialogue to complete the quest.

Reward:
  • 5,000 XP
  • 1,000 Gold
  • 50 Trick-or-Treat Bags

--------------------------------------------

Open the Flood Gates of Death

Summary:
  1. Travel to Joko's Domain and challenge Palawa Joko.
  2. Kill Joko's minions quickly enough to fill the Kill-O-Meter
  3. See Emissary of King Thorn of Kryta for your reward.

Obtained from:

Emissary of King Thorn of Kryta in Kamadan, Jewel of Istan

Quest Log:

Enter Joko's Domain from the Bone Palace, get in a junundu, and head east to the quest marker where 6 Mad King's Guards will be waiting for you. After a short dialogue, groups of Awakened will spawn at three points and moving to your position; new groups will spawn as the previous groups are wiped out.

For every foe killed, the Kill-O-Meter will increase by a small amount. The meter will also periodically decrease by a small amount, but you should have no trouble killing foes quickly enough to overcome this.

Instead of staying at the quest marker and waiting for the Awakened to come to you, some players prefer to move to the Bone Palace's gate and engage the Awakened as soon as they spawn at that point. This does save a little time, as you can stay in one spot instead of moving back and forth between the different groups, but the quest can be completed quickly enough anyway that the difference is negligible.

Requirements:

Til Death Do Us Part...

Reward:
  • 10,000 XP
  • 1,500 Gold
  • 100 Trick-or-Treat Bags

--------------------------------------------

The Killing Joke

Obtained from:

Emissary of King Thorn of Kryta in Kamadan, Jewel of Istan

Requirements:

Open the Flood Gates of Death

Quest log:

Enter Vehtendi Valley from Yahnur Market and follow the quest marker to Qwytzylkak's location. Approaching him will trigger his one line of dialogue, after which he will turn hostile. A group of Smoke Phantoms and Ash Phantoms spawn next to him, which you can pull away and defeat separately.

A group of Behemoths spawns behind Qwytzylkak, and sometimes very close to him, so you may wish to pull him a short distance as well to avoid aggroing them.

Reward:

15,000 XP
2,500 Gold
100 Trick-or-Treat Bags

2011 Challenge Mission - Scarred Psyche: An Extensive Guide - Full Credit to Shayne Hawke

The following is a guide on how to complete this mission for speed based on practice with seven hero teams.

How to Start

You may enter this competitive mission from one of two locations: by speaking to The Sorceress of Kessex in Lion's Arch, or by speaking to The Harbinger of King Thorn in Kamadan. After a brief introduction of the situation, you will arrive in Scarred Psyche. Once inside, you may step forward and speak to Colonel Kernel. The Colonel can return you to where you came from, or give you advice on the mission (see below: Objectives). There are two Xunlai Chests, a merchant, and the Royal Bard, who will show you the records set in the past day, month, and quarter for the mission. To begin the mission, simply press the "Begin Challenge" button in your party window. You may play this mission with up to eight players and/or heroes.

Objectives

This mission has the following objectives:
  • Kill the six generals of Palawa Joko.
  • Defeat Palawa Joko. This ends the mission.
  • Protect Mad King Thorn.
  • (OPTIONAL) Kill the Priests of Joko.
While playing for speed, you will want to focus on the objectives in this order:
  • Defeat Palawa Joko. This ends the mission.
  • Kill the six generals of Palawa Joko.
  • Protect Mad King Thorn.
  • (OPTIONAL) Kill the Priests of Joko.
Skills

While in Scarred Psyche, you will be given new skills:
  • 1. Candy Corn Strike - 1/4c, 1r - Signet. Launch a delicious projectile at target foe. If it hits, foe takes 50 damage and you gain 1 strike of adrenaline. This spell ignores armor.
    • This is your bread and butter skill. Spam this on a target for damage and fueling your second and fifth skills.
  • 2. Rocket-Propelled Gobstopper - 4a, 1c, 5r - Spell. Launch an explosively tasty, high-speed Gobstopper at target foe's location. All nearby foes are struck for 100 damage and knocked down. This spell ignores armor.
    • This skill is key for taking down mobs after you've had a chance to build adrenaline. Use this to initiate spikes on mobs, prevent casters from casting, snare melee, and just overall damage.
  • 3. Feast of Vengeance - 5e, 1c, 8r - Spell. Steal 100 health from target foe.
    • Spam on recharge to keep your red bars up and do more damage than your first skill. Good for following up a spike.
  • 4. Rain of Terror - 15e, 2c, 30r - Spell. Create a Rain of Terror at target foe's location. For 5 seconds, foes in the area are struck for 30 damage. This spell ignores armor.
    • This is your most important skill. Drop this on the edge of a large mob in unison with other teammates, combine with other focused damage, and you can take down bosses in a few seconds.
  • 5. Cry of Madness - 3a, 30r - Elite Shout. Scream like a madman! Foes in the area lose 10 energy and all adrenaline. For 10 seconds, allies within earshot move 25% faster and have +5 Health regeneration and +1 Energy regeneration.
    • Chain this with others to maintain a speed boost. Before killing a boss, spam it with your party to reduce all enemies' energy pool.
  • 6. Sugar Infusion - 10e, 1/4c, 12r - Spell. Sacrifice 25% of your current health. Target other ally is healed for 150% of the amount you lost. If this targets Mad King Thorn, this spell heals for 200% the amount you lost.
    • Important for keeping yourself and others alive. This is also your lifeline for when Thorn gets low.
  • 7. Animate Candy Minions - 10e, 2c, 45r - Spell. Exploit nearest corpse to animate two level 10 Candy Minions. You can have only 6 Candy Minions at a time.
    • Not a great skill. If you don't disable this on your heroes, you run the risk of them getting stuck casting it under Migraine, which is a big slow down. You may be able to get away with having a couple heroes use this, but not your entire team. Humans may be able to manage this skill fine.
  • 8. Resurrection Signet
The Mission

This mission takes place in the old Scarred Earth map from Heroes' Ascent. You will begin in the center of the map with Mad King Thorn and six Candy Corn Infantry. Thorn stands atop the altar in the middle while each of the infantry stand near the mouth of each path leading outside the center. The infantry have the same adjusted skills as yourself, whereas the Mad King has some slightly different skills:
  • Defy Pain
  • Hundred Blades
  • It's Good to Be King - 10e, 60r - Elite Shout. You steal 50 health from all allies within earshot. These allies move 50% faster for 20 seconds.
  • Maddening Laughter - 3a, 12r - Elite Shout. Let out a maniacal cackle. Foes within earshot are struck for 100 damage, and suffer from Dazed for 5 seconds.
  • Mad King Pony Support - 10e, 1/2c, 60r - Elite Spell. Summon a level 20 Invisible Pony. This summoned pony prances to target foe. This pony lasts 60 seconds.
Palawa Joko also has his own skills:
  • Aura of the Lich
  • Discord
  • Icy Veins
  • Spiteful Spirit
  • Taste of Undeath - Steal up to 500 Health from target ally.
  • Scourge of Candy - Target foe and nearby foes are struck for 200 damage, and suffer from Dazed for 5 seconds.
  • Motivating Insults - Scream insults at your army. For 10 seconds they have 8 Health regeneration, and move and attack 33% faster.
The generals are located in each exterior room of the map. Each general is accompanied by a Priest and a small group of Awakened Guards. These guards have more health than normal Awakened. At each minute, each general will send forth two Awakened enemies and an additional one for each general killed so far. These enemies will charge towards the center of the map, attacking anything in their way. Their composition seems to be random. Your party and the Candy Corn Infantry will res at the middle altar every two minutes. The following map shows the generals' positions:

After five of Joko's generals have been killed, Joko himself will enter the battlefield. He will appear in the room of the last general alive. At this point, killing Joko will end the mission. You do not have to kill the last general. Upon completion of the mission, you will be rewarded with an amount of gold, Trick-or-Treat bags, and Gamer points based on your level of completion relative to the Daily and Monthly best scores. At the end of the event, there may or may not be a prize for being on the highscore list.

Preparing for the Run

I have tested this mission extensively and successfully with seven heroes. Properly coordinated players can likely do this much better than one team full of heroes, but your first step at doing this mission should be learning how to do it with seven heroes. Once you have become comfortable doing it with seven heroes, you can then move on to playing with other players who have made the same preparations.

In preparing to play with heroes and do the mission as a whole, you should keep the following things in mind:
  • Disable Rain of Terror on two heroes. You want these skills available when you need them, and the heroes will otherwise spam it as they see fit. When you approach a room, find a suitable target (generally, the closest caster-type enemy that you can hit without drawing aggro, and then the boss) and micro each hero to cast Rain on that target. You should do the same. If you or any heroes have an RPG available, cast that as well to keep enemies inside the AoE. Remember that RPG needs line of sight, so only micro your heroes to use it after they have sight, because they will not move into proper position to cast it themselves.
  • Disable Animate Candy Minions on at least the same heroes that you want to save for Rain of Terror. You don't want to have them draining their energy before they hit the boss mob. Other heroes might be able to get away with using this, but I considering this the worst skill on the bar by far, and it may not be worth using.
  • Heroes are not good at dealing with being obstructed (and neither are the Candy Corn Infantry!). Make sure you are approaching each room square on, or else your heroes will shoot at the wall.
  • Be ready to flag your heroes away from the room after each boss is dead. Time is of the essence! The only reason you should not be running is if there are enemies bodyblocking most of your heroes, which they are too daft to move around themselves. Kill those enemies and move on as quickly as possible.
  • Your health, energy, and attributes are fixed, and your armor and weapons provide you with no benefits. Morale boosts have no effect.
  • Consumables have no effect.
  • The number of enemies spawned by each general increases as you kill them. Keep this in mind for when you plan in which order you want to kill the generals.
  • Acolytes have Ray of Judgment. Effigies have Earthquake. Defilers have Death Nova. Dune Carvers are strong in their own right. The mesmer boss has Cry of Frustration. There are many AoE damaging and disabling skills here that you will want to avoid. Your only ways to deal with them are to move out of the way, or to kill them before they can use their skills.
  • Be wary of who is affected by Migraine. Especially if it's your two Rain-in-reserve heroes, get someone else to cast Rain for the spike.
My Run

I have achieved various times through different builds of this mission, but it all boils down to a run that takes a little more than five minutes. This was always done with heroes for me, and I predict players will together be able to post much faster times.

To begin, stand at the north gate. Your first target will be the elementalist boss. When the gate opens, rush towards the room. When you get there, the two Awakened will be just running into you. The other two will be well behind you and go to Thorn. Before you get to the boss, find a suitable target for your nukes. Tell your two designated heroes to nuke that target. Do the same from a different position to avoid AoE. The two Awakened coming from the room may or may not aggro the rest of the normal mobs in the room, so be prepared for this. The first boss should drop somewhere between :20-:30 if you have done it right. Flag your heroes off towards the mesmer boss.

Get into position, find a new target, and blast them to the Mists. If you ever find yourself not targeting the boss for your nuke, make sure to target and call the boss after the nukes go off so that your heroes begin to focus down the boss. Be very careful of Cry of Frustration and your hero micro. If one of your heroes gets interrupted, they may still be trying to cast a skill on recharge. Make sure to pull them off using that skill, or they will do nothing for a long time. After the boss falls, run back to the center. Do not bother with killing Priests or focusing them down. They don't need to die to complete our mission, and you can easily overpower their healing and be out before they res their team. You can safely leave behind one dead teammate. You should be done with the mesmer boss shortly after the 1-minute mark.

Back in the center, clean up any surrounding enemies and help out Thorn if he's low. If he's in trouble at this point, you will probably not make it through this mission in any record time. Our next target is the necromancer boss, so head up the ramp to the southeast. If you are fast enough, you can cut off the patrols coming in from each boss in that direction, kill most of their forces, and still make it to the necromancer boss before ~2:00. Once you get there, nuking down the boss is quite simple.

At this point, based on how well your team is taking the damage, you can run to the ranger boss under the bridges, allowing you to cutoff and kill the patrol coming from that boss, or you can walk around the tunnel to avoid the patrol. You may also want to keep an eye on how many Infantry are up and how hearty Thorn is at the moment. The ranger boss itself tends to sit well outside of its group. This will often be a case where you must nuke down the Awakened mob and deal with the boss only using focused fire. You should be finished with both the necromancer and ranger boss by ~3:00.

WARNING: Based on experience, 3:00 is a make-or-break point for this style of run. It often happens around this mark that Thorn ends up being overwhelmed and dies. The point when it appears that Thorn is on his last laugh can happen any time between when you start to approach the ranger boss and on your way back from the ranger boss. If it happens late enough, you can have a chance to heal him and save him from the oncoming enemies. If not, you're done. Breaking off to attempt to save him before killing the ranger boss will add perhaps a whole minute to your run, which would easily disqualify you from making a record. As such, you can only hope that Thorn will hold out.

Assuming Thorn manages to survive, make your way back to the middle, mop up the enemy, and wait for the wave that had spawned at 3:00. Take out the group on either side of the ramp and leave the other group for Thorn and his troops to deal with. Our next target is the monk boss. You will probably arrive at this boss just before 4:00. Nuke him down fast. This is probably the largest force at once that you will have to deal with all game. If you are lucky, all the mobs will be surrounding the boss, and they will mostly fall due to the AoE. You can use the mobs that spawned at 3:00 to charge some adrenaline and open this spike with a knockdown. At this point, it's almost necessary that you do so. When the monk boss is dead, run back.

At this point, Palawa Joko will enter the field, stationed at the room of the warrior boss. Thorn and his Infantry will march forward to help you, provided they are not still dealing with the enemy mobs from 3:00. Approach the room the same way as you did all the others, this time focusing almost entirely on Joko. Be very careful of Joko's Scourge of Candy skill, as this will render you useless for five seconds. Position yourself in a way that it hits the fewest members of your team as possible. With the potential combination of your AoE and Thorn's Daze, Joko will fall quickly, allowing you to achieve victory around the five-minute mark.

Remarks

Another route besides Elementalist-Mesmer-Necromancer-Ranger-Monk-Warrior that I have tested is Warrior-Monk-(Elementalist/Mesmer)-(Mesmer/Elementalist)-Ranger-Necromancer. Try different things. Just be sure to only leave a branch of the map after you've killed both bosses in that branch.

This is a high failure mission if you are going for a record. If your team gets trapped in nukes, you lose. If Thorn gets overwhelmed, you lose. If the Infantry are stuck trying to shoot through walls, you lose. This will happen a lot. You must become used to it.

Thorn has a behavior where he will refuse to leave the center of the altar unless one of your party or his Infantry is near enough to him and is attacking or being attacked. Theoretically, a party of one player and six heroes going around killing bosses would not be much slower than a party of one player and seven heroes. This would leave a slot open for another player to guard Thorn and allow him to move intelligently.

This mission, as with any kind of timed mission, requires strong coordination between players in order to be successful. It would be much easier for one player to coordinate seven other heroes and complete this than eight players working together. Assuming some can pull it off though, the benefit would be better spikes, less damage from AoE, less bodyblocking trouble, and extra freedom to keep Thorn alive. With a full team of people and a run similar to what I've described, runs as fast as ~4:30 could be possible.

To go even further though, split tactics of sending half of the team to each boss could be explored, potentially shaving off even more time. This could be achieved with as little as two players bringing three heroes each. Splits like these could possibly post times under four minutes.

In closing, good luck to everyone who hopes to chase the record time!

The Costume Brawl! 2011 (Mini-Game)

The Costume Brawl! is back again this year.

You can fight in the guise of famous characters from the Guild Wars story, using that character's custom set of skills and the equipment!

To enter this special mini-game, speak with Bobby [Costume Brawl] — in the towns of Lion's Arch, Kamadan, and the Great Temple of Balthazar.

Bobby awaits!

Each profession has a corresponding character, so simply change your profession type should you wish to try out different characters.

After you speak with Bobby [Costume Brawl], you will enter the outpost for the Costume Brawl already dressed in your costume, with your skills pre-selected.

If you forgot a weapon, one will be spawned at your feet.

From there, you will join the combat in one of three brand new arenas or two favourites from the Hero Battle series. Each brawl is free of Death Penalty, and each round will last ten minutes. At the end of a match, every player on the winning team will receive a prize.

Disguises and Skill Sets

The following disguises and skill sets are available in the 2011 Costume Brawl:

Thanks to the Official Guild Wars Wiki for information

How to Play and Strategies

Each map has capture points; the objective is to be the first team to score 20 points. Points are accumulated by killing opponents (1 point each kill) and capturing Shrines, which fill up the team's "Morale" bar and consequently grants points each time it fills up completely. Holding more capture points increases the rate at which the Morale bar fills up.

Depending on the map, the following shrines may be encountered:
  • Battle Cry Shrine: Grants Battle Cry effect, increases all team members movement, attack and skill recharge speeds
  • Health Shrine: Gives +140 maximum health
  • Energy Shrine: Reduces the energy cost of skills
  • Morale Shrine: Increases morale gain speed

Note: The following is only a suggestive strategy which I have tested and works for me, feel free to play however you like.

Unlike Alliance Battles, capturing shrines is not the key to victory, as shrines will only add benefits to your team rather than adding points directly. However, the teams that neglect shrines will be faced with a tactical disadvantage, and may not be able to kill faster than the opposing team is gaining points from shrines.

Teams should therefore balance between shrine-holding and killing while preventing deaths.

A good team will work together to capture shrines while fending off the other team.

An important tip is avoid being left alone or moving without your team! Most teams stick together and being caught alone will result in quick death.

Saying that at the beginning of each match spread out and capture as many points as possible to get an initial advantage. Then regroup for safety.

Prizes

Battle series. Each brawl is free of Death Penalty, and each round will last ten minutes. At the end of a match, every player on the winning team will receive the following:
  • 40 Balthazar faction per unique kill
  • 20 Balthazar faction per point scored
  • 5 Balthazar faction for each point on final scoreboard, 15 Gamer points, and 5 Trick-or-Treat Bags in a team win. For example, if the opposing team resigns while the scoreboard shows 18 points, the victors receive 90 Balthazar faction.

Halloween Collectable Items

The following collectable items are available during the Halloween 2011 event:

Trick-or-Treat Bag

Collectable item, has only one use. When opened it will give one of the following items:

This is a list of the items you may get from a Trick-Or-Treat Bag:

  • Witch's Brew
  • Vial of Absinthe
  • Squash Serum
  • Ghost-in-the-Box
  • Transmogrifier Tonic
  • Pumpkin Cookie
  • Candy Apple
  • Candy Corn

-----------------------------------

Witch's Brew

Collectable item, has only one use. It causes a blurry "drunken" sensation for a short period of time. Drinking multiple batches of witch's brew may cause unpredictable drunken behaviour such as random emotes or text bubbles above the drunken character's head. The screen will also turn more orange the more you drink. This item provides 1 Level / Point of drunkenness for the Drunkard title track.

-----------------------------------

Vial of Absinthe

Collectable item, has only one use. It causes a green flame to flare at your feet for a second, then gives a blurry "drunken" effect that compounds with multiple uses within a short period. Having too many (Five typically) results in the screen going green bullet-time style for a short while. This item provides 1 Level / Point of drunkenness for the Drunkard title track.

-----------------------------------

Squash Serum

Collectable item, has only one use. When used a translucent Jack-o'-lantern with a sparkling stem to appear around your character's head for a brief time.

If you drink a bunch of Serums in a row, the Jack-o'-lantern and sparkling stem become less and less translucent. This item provides 1 point towards the Party Animal title track.

-----------------------------------

Ghost-in-the-Box

Collectable item, has only one use. It causes a miniature Wraith to appear in front of you with a slightly startling noise and the word "Boo!" above its head. It stays for a brief time, then disappear in a puff of smoke with another yell.

Interestingly, when used during PvE, monsters may attack the ghost, making it a handy decoy. Also, the ghost's "death" produces the effect of Soul Reaping for Necromancers. The Ghost-in-the-box item cannot be used during PvP matches. This item provides 1 point towards the Party Animal title track.

-----------------------------------

Transmogrifier Tonic

Collectable item, has only one use. This item cannot be used in PvP. When used you will gain an effect that causes you to take on the appearance of a slimmer Mad King's Guard. The emotes shown by this Avatar of Sweetness are identical to the female necromancer emotes. The effect lasts for 50 minutes. This item provides 2 point towards the Party Animal title track.

-----------------------------------

Pumpkin Cookie

Collectable item, has only one use. You gain a 10% morale boost. This morale boost does not cause skills to instantly recharge. This item provides 1 point towards Sweet Tooth title track.

-----------------------------------

Candy Apple

Collectable item, has only one use. Provides +100 maximum health and +10 maximum energy for 10 minutes. This item provides 1 point towards Sweet Tooth title track. The effect of this item will stack with the effect of EotN consumables

-----------------------------------

Candy Corn

Collectable item, has only one use. Raises all your attributes by 1 for 10 minutes. This item provides 1 point towards Sweet Tooth title track.

RTSFirebat needs your help!!!

Hi there! Thanks for looking at another quality (At least I hope so!) RTS event guide. I'm always looking for help with my

guides, and anyone can contribute. How so? Read on...

So what help do I need?

You can help by providing me with any of the following information, corrections and mini-guides via a forum PM. Generally I'm

requesting any of the following:

In no particular order...
  • Any information on new event quests or missions, or changes to existing event quests or missions from previous events.
  • Any pictures and details regarding new event items
  • Corrections to the guide, for example spelling.
  • Information, tips and mini how-to guides for any event mini-games.
  • Detailed information and if possible screenshots of any new in-game bugs introduced during the event.
  • Any pictures of interesting stuff such as town decorations

Information Submission Guidelines:

  • Please PM (Private Message) all information to me directly. I don't often have time to troll the tread for the info.
  • I will not accept any screenshots with interface stuff like health bars and skills bars blocking things on screen. Please send clear screenshots only.
  • Please do not submit any massive images. Sizes such as: 1024 x 1280 are acceptable. Please resize them to 640 x 480 first.
  • All information submitted must be accurate! Speculation and rumours won't be accepted. It also wastes everyone's time!

----------------------

All submissions will be of course credited in the Contributors section of the guide.

Again please make sure to submit all information via a PM (Private Message), as I won't actively be checking feedback in the

event thread.

Thank you, happy gaming

Ok, explain how it is wrong? Because I've used that in a number of random and group Brawls to great success.

By all means explain further.

I was just wondering, since the Halloween quests will be available very soon, will anet fix the bug with the triple modded weapons in "Commandeering a Mortal Vessel" or will they still drop?

If Anet doesn't fix it, then look forward to the one and only place you can get triple modded weapons. One-of-a-kind weapons will be dropping there!

On the guild guru page it says the quests start at the 25th? This topic has the 24th, I suppose this topic is more accurate because it makes more sens. Maybe the 25th could be changed on the main guild guru page.

The devs fixed this issue during last year's halloween. The bug was present for a couple of days then they rolled out a fix and the drops were normal for the remainder of the event. I'll eat my hat if these bugged items drop again and, if they do, it will be fixed in a jiffy.

It depends on the map. On a map like Whitefury Rapids with 5 shrines it is very unwise to stay together. While you cap one shrine 4 others are being recaptured.
You say to spread out at the beginning for an initial advantage, but why not keep the advantage?
There are some very split-unfriendly maps like Kysten-Shore, there it would be a good idea to stay together (imho the best strategy on this map is to go to the battle cry shrine with the full team as 95% of teams just rush to the center and then fight with the advantage and then only split to react to attempts to recapture the battle cry shrine, but 90% of the time your team will ignore you when you say sth like this and run to the center too instead).
On Ruins unless you have a strong class composition the standard 5v5 fight for the battle cry shrine is often just a flip of a coin that decides the entire match. Especially with ranger/assassine-heavy teams it would be wiser to split to try to win via morale points.

I'm kinda feeling like I'm missing something,....maybe they'll come later this week, but be good to get a hint of some sorts.
Storywise, the challenge mission does seem to be the follow-up.

True it does,... however, I think a lot of people would like to know about the Nameless Lich and if there are anymore Seals that were broken, or need breaking. Although the quests do imply the Lunatic Court be wrong with heir calculations.

Agreed, I really thought there would be something dealing with the Nameless Lich. Also thought there would be some way to raise up King Thorn in a mortal body this year since that is what the quests imply. Not that he would be around long but hey, it would be fun.

Then again, Halloween isn't over yet.

Comparing the newest page with the history it seems that they nerfed the gold you receive to 1000*score from 2000*score.

Well, I guess that's why I didn;t notice. I was looking for an improvement on the tot bags/gamer points :/. I was not expecting the reward to go down at all.

Edit:
Quote:
You now get 10 ToT bags and 5 Gamer points for completion, in addition to the ToT bags and Gamer points you would receive using the formula above. In other words, whatever you would get before, add 10 ToT and 5 Gamer points to it. Enjoy! (I edited the rewards section to reflect this.) --Andrew Patrick 20:42, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
There we go! That's the sort of change I was hoping for.

I think we'll see something similar to last years, things that are related to Halloween, but are more or less designed to be used all year round. I actually came here expecting them to have been leaked already.

I think there is going to be another update to add the files for the festival hats which would explain why they haven't been leaked yet.

They said they'd continue it during the year, and the only slightest bit of "continuation" was the result of their initial actions and didn't even begin to cover the Nameless Lich. :c

Here's hoping that today we get some form of continuation quests.

I think with today's update the people that usually find out what the masks are will find them shortly in the files.

lol, after all the times I told people that dying the ravenheart costume red made it look like a pirate outfit, one of the hats from the finale will be a pirate hat.

I mentioned this in-game a few times as a joke, but it wouldn't surprise me to see the other "hat" is a diadem made out of barbed wire.
