Hi all.
I've reached the point in my first time through the game where I need to choose Luxon or Kurzick. Are there any significant differences that maybe the wiki doesn't point out? I have limited play time for GW, so it will be a while before I can get another character up to this point.
Faction choice for the first time through?

None at all. You can go back easily anyway and still complete the other side. Gyala Hatchery(Luxon) may be slightly easier than Enternal Grove(kurzick) first time through though.

Thanks for the info. Luxon it is for now then.

Luxon works. I'm a Luxon 12 now, but I started as a Kurzick and that works too.
There is a trick to the Gyala Hatchery quest. Read up on it on it before you do it. You can go ahead of the turtles without starting them and clean out most of the enemy forces. Then you just walk along with the turtles to the end. Pipe. The Jade Sea is on the whole an enjoyable place.
One big advantage to Luxon is that when you have hard mode available you can run Mount Quinkai, an easy HM vanquish. If you take the shrine blessing, you get about 10,000 Luxon faction points per run. This will level up your Luxon faction to a healthy 7 or 8 pretty fast.

You never really choose, you recieve two primairy quests, one for luxon and one for kurzick side. You can do both whenever you want.
As stated the luxoin mission (Gyala) is indeed a bit easier (specially if you read the wikipage bout the backway) then eternal grove (Kurzick) wich need either another real player or some carefull flagging.
So if your not interested in titles or playing in a guild/alliance, I would suggest to pick luxon. If your guild is however kurzick, I would pick kurzick and contribute to your guilds points.

I went luxon first time and indeed most of my characters started that rout, I find the scenery more pleasant.
If I started Kurzic first it would have been for one of 2 reasons.
Either there was an elite skill I wanted from Kurzic territory or the armour suited the character better, I would start a ritualist as a Kurzic.

you can pick both and do most of the stuff for both of them. You just need to have the 10k faction for whichever side to get the next quest (after befriending) to do the missions (gayla or eternal grove).
And you can always go back and do the other stuff after you have done the one side--its not a final choice.

Short answers: Go with what your guild is aligned to. If you are not part of a guild or you are the guild leader, then go with whichever you like.
I will note that I find the Kurzick lands generally easier to explore, and quite frankly more interesting.
I will say that Kurzick lands are kinder to ranged attackers and to ritualists. Ranged because Naga Archers in Luxon territory use the elite skill Escape, and ritualists because there are some crucial elite skills to be capped in Kurzick territory.

When I did this I made my decision based on the type of armor I wanted for that particular character I was playing.
