making a comeback?

Alright I think I'm going to come back to GW for some casual rpg funness. I have GW Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall (I believe). I have a Ele, Monk, War, Sin, and Dervish to 20. Since I've been away from the game for 3-4 years, what do y'all recommend that I do? I've completed all of the Prophecies and Factions campaigh that I remember. Not sure what I did in Nightfall... thinking of maybe making a necro?

Why not just play and have fun. Nobody here knows what you like or want. Your question is very vague......

Since you've been gone, 7 heroes in party. Pick favorite character in Nightfall and get your heroes set up. After you do that, pay a visit to Embark Beach, good daily quests there. Then too, in Eye of the North you want to get at least a few points in the Hall of Monuments. You will find the Hall in the Eye of the North shortly after you enter this expansion. This will give you some veteran ID gear in GW 2.
Just scratching the surface. There is really a very lot to do. Oh, and after you have a character who has finished both Prophecies and Eye of the North, there is the War in Kryta. Entertaining.

yeah i know it was vague, but the truth is, i don't even know what I want... so I was looking for suggestions.
I haven't bought Eye of the North yet, and I think I will take your advice and get my other toons setup and relearn them in NF.

Best thing to do is finish NF with one character before going to Eye of the North. You will acquire more heroes in Eye of the North. After final quest in NF you will be in the reward area where you can get quests to get heroes you were forced to pass by in NF. These are very easy quests. In the area where the final mission begins you will also be able to take a quest to get Razah. Do this. Razah is a ritualist and can be set up to do a fine job of spamming protective spirits. Makes hard mode a lot easier.

I'm in the same boat, I want to play some guildwars in prep for gw2 honestly. i was wondering are there any active friendly teamspeak/vent using guilds looking for people?

There are still many guilds recruiting, some small and newbie-alike, some large, friendly and organised, some are elitist and do high end pvp or speedclears, check out the guild recruiting section elsewhere here on Guru.
If you are unsure what kind of playing you like, go try it out. Play some campaign, read up on wiki and try some farming, see what you like.
When you have a better feeling of what you like, there is surely a guild that will suit you

Create a new character and go through your favourite campaign again?
I didn't do that when I came back though, I had my HoM as a goal, and I've been enjoying myself with much more that came up just by playing. War in Kryta and Winds of change would also be good things to do New content is new content!
Getting eotn and playing through that story would be highly recomended if you plan on comming back for at least a few months, it's fun and you'll get all the heroes and skills etc.
