its just the surge in number of players. lots of people come back at events, as you can see by going to toa or la, dis numbers are much higher than usual. if it bugs you the only thing to do is not play for the event

hankey
^Yes don't play in ADs. Only thing to do.

I've been going to a lot of European districts, and was in the Russian district to do some UW halloween quests and had a great ping there. Polish, too. If I go to any of the American districts the lag is just unbearable, so for now, like someone suggested, stay away form the crowded American districts.
PurpleFission
most of the districts are hosted in the same place so it doesnt make a difference

I have no lag issues and I'm using wifi so it seems these issues are depending on the comp your using not servers however try to go to some eruo areas like russia, if that doesn't help use a better comp all I can say.

This lag is beyond ridiculous. I just lagged out at the end of an hour long long WOC quest and had to restart it. I'm a little disappointed that at this stage of the game, the servers just can't do their job.

Switch districts all you like, your still going to connect to the NCsoft server farm closes to your location. North America the servers are located in Illinois now, they used to be in Texas. The farther away you are from a server the more milliseconds it will take.
Europe the servers are located in Germany.
All you have to do is an IP trace on the Internet Protocol number. "Server IP" which is located in your "performance monitor" ingame to know the location of what server farm you are connected with.
Guild Wars servers can go dark until needed. Potentially a handful of computers can run GW or hundreds at any moment.

I used to really struggle during festivals with the lag. The game was unplayable. From my end nothing has changed (same PC, same internet provider, same plan) but I suffer almost no lag. I'm in Australia so both the US and Euro servers are on the other side of the world. I wish I knew what was different so that if I ever get hit with crippling lag again I can change it back to the happy lag-free settings.
EPIC noob
i always play in the 'international district' normally you can fire a cannon and no one will hear you. but and as soon as save the boobies and all the halloween stuff started it started getting crowded in there. i walked through LA and there was all sorts of pink freaks dancing and you know why? they leave their accounts run and you come back hours later and the same people are still there. actually it is just they leave the account open sucking up the bandwidth for no reason.
all i can tell you is the issue should go away once the festivals end. personally i am looking forward to the release of gw2 not because i plan to buy it right away but i will enjoy the peace and quiet and lag free game play that is sure to follow.

Upgrade your computer and upgrade your inernet service provider, I play on dsl wifi with 30 ping and 30 fps on a 3 year old computer with no lag whatsoever, also I play in American districts nearly 24/7

I'm not having any lag issues.
