Ring of Fire is Stupid Hard
Qazaam
I've pretty much cruised through Prophecies and just hit a brick wall. Ring of Fire is destroying me. Anybody else think this mission is too hard?
Marty Silverblade
It's a new area with new monsters. It's not unusual to face some difficulty. It's just a matter of realising what you're doing wrong and/or what you need to adapt and fix it. It is never a case of a mission being too hard - it just seems that way until you figure out what to do. Some tips/questions:
1 - Have you obtained max AL armor yet? You can get this from Droknar's Forge.
2 - When was the last time you fine tuned your build? If you post it we can give critique. Furthermore, which henchmen/heroes are you using?
3 - Where are you having problems specifically?
4 - Are you making sure to pull groups where possible and making sure not to overaggro?
5 - Have you read the tips on wiki: http://www.guildwiki.org/Ring_of_Fire ? It's hard to give advice when you don't give any information.

some tips:
Make sure your armor is infused. Mursaat will rip you apart otherwise.
Careful pulling works wonders. Stop and observe patrol patters. There are lots of them.
Interrupt powerful spells (meteor shower) when possible.
And bring a way to mitigate burning. Everything is on fire and it sucks there.
oh, and if something has Spark in it's name, kill that first.

My first time through was when Prophecies was new. With a Ranger and hench. Yes, these are hard missions with Prophecies only. But you can make it through. I went /mesmer with Mantra Against Flame. Helped quite a bit.
You can also cast Winter spirit which makes all elemental damage cold damage and then Mantra of Frost. Winter is for Rangers. Secondary Mesmer and Mantra should work for any class.
Take it slow. Follow advice above. Read walk throughs on all missions. You can make it through.
What is your class? Would help if we knew what you are.

Man, follow everyone above's suggestions and you'll be okay. If you are still having trouble, shoot me a PM and I'll be glad to help you.

Anyway, what others have said. It's basically watching your pulls... I had a hell of a time my first time in this mission and basically figured it was impossible with hench/hero but I didn't understand the basics at that time.
Take your time, don't overpull, I never even used things like mantra of flame mostly just call nuke targets that cast big powerful spells and kite enemies if you are being pummeled don't just stand there taking a beating they will jump off you eventually.
If this doesn't work you may ask someone on this forum for help many will be willing.

Well it sure isn't easy but stopping burning and not just hitting all the titans in a mob is the secret otherwise too many hands and fists etc coming at you.
Unfortunately this is one place where area effect skills spirit spam and minions can work against you.
Its easy with a human team not too bad with heroes or a mix of heroes and henchies.
All henchies is a little trying
oops your right Chthon no titans in the mission i was thinking of the fire islands generally, where titans caused me grief.

LifeInfusion
No, and be more specific as to what is "destroying" you.
You probably just need infused armor and to pull properly. Use a longbow and flag your heros back. There's always the back door route.

Chthon
I think Marty pretty much covered it, but I'll see what I can add:
1. You should be going in with max armor that's infused. If you're not, that's the obvious reason why you'd be dying rapidly.
2. Take on one mob at a time. Watch patrol paths; use smart positioning; pull. (Waaay back in the day, it was impossible to get past Elona Reach without learning this lesson, but powercreep may have pushed that plateau all the way to RoF...)
3. Don't mess with the guys who chase Brechnar; it's a scripted event you're not supposed to be involved in. (You can kill them all btw, but it won't save him.)
4. You cannot hope to fight mobs while under the towers' effect and win. You need to use a bow to pull mobs out to a safe location, then engage the towers when you can do so without any interference.
4a. For the parts of the bonus with 2 towers, make sure to fight the first tower from a spot that is NOT in the area where both towers' ranges overlap.
4b. If you have hero healers, you can flag them back out of the towers' range so that they don't get drained.
4c. On the topic of heroes, they may be part of the problem. I don't mean to discourage you, but failing at NM RoF is a pretty strong indicator that you don't yet understand the game well enough to design hero builds that are better than the henchmen. You might consider sticking to henchmen until you've learned the game better. (Borrowing someone else's well-designed hero builds would help you progress through the game, but at the cost of retarding your progress at becoming better at it.)
5. When crossing the pit where you have to wade through the lava, come to a stop the moment you reach the far shore. In the best case scenario, the ettins will aggro onto the mursaat boss and you can wait and deal with the winner. In the worst case, you will have to fight the ettins right on the shore. Trying to go farther up away from the lava is likely to aggro the ettins and the boss at the same time, which is likely to get you killed.
5a. If this area goes all pear-shaped, make a run for it. Your party will rez after the cutscene that triggers just past the tower.
6. Ignore the Vizier's advice. The front door is faster and easier than the back door. Also, the bonus is there.
(To some of the other posters: uh guys, there's no titans in the RoF mission...)

To make is doable for the less experienced is NOT to rely on casters here but the martial classes due the the towers as they will drain away the energy of the casters. The martial classes such as warrior and dervish who have adrenaline skills are unaffected and can take down the towers easily for the correct skills. Spirits and minions also work great against them but unlike said above the ammount of fire damage you encounter is very small so Winter and Mantra of Flame are of little use. It is adviced to take some strong condition removal and be sure to have plenty of damage. Beside the basic healer and prot combo and the mesmers for shut down relying on the martial classes and bringing skills to support them would be the best way to take down that mission.

Don't know what class you are but just did it on my second account. Spirit spam and all casters did work fine, just follow Chthon's advice. Top most advice is to flag your team and pull mobs, especially away from the Ether Seals. Spirits don't use energy so I just let them destroy the seals with a Painful Bond.

It's totally unnecessary with proper team build, but going /me for mantras is a semi efficient way to mitigate damage in the fire island missions.

best way to complete a mission - call your friends up to help you or search for help on the forum. There aren't really any guidelines to follow, its all about effectiveness of working together. i'm sure if you want to do it sometime, i can help you with Ring of Fire on my monk - ign : Rise Of Cpu

Same, once I get my war there I will gladly join
Voodoo Rage
Just did this last night on my warrior and I'm ashamed to admit that I managed to wipe even in NM (using the rush the gate route). You just have to realize that the Mursaat Towers are going to completely drain your team of all energy, that means no healing. If you start seeing red bars dropping, you have to retreat. Getting spirits into attack range of a tower is really all you need.

If u run a BiP hero you don't have to worry too much about e management in really any area of the game.

UA monk works everywhere - spam heal party - res if they die straight away. Then you have another monk for main heals. Ofc the ua monk is there to support with heavy heals also. Reason is, ua monk won't be in distance to be drained, but can come in when he/she needs to...
Amnel Ithtirsol
I Did guardian of Tyria on my Dervish recently and had no real issues with RoF. Like people mentioned already, max infused armor is key.
If I recall I had 2 interrupt mesmers (Ineptitude, Esurge), 2 rits (SoS, Spirit Lord) and a strong healer. The rest according to your preference (e.g: a N/Rt Mark of Pain hero with splinter weapon to compliment the VoS/Shards build I was running on my derv).
Time your pulls at the towers and when safe, eliminate them one by one (if doing the front route). The spirits worked well there.
Its difficult to give more advice without knowing if you have access to the other campaigns and heroes etc.
(OT: The only slight challenge I encountered in prophecies was getting the bonus during Dunes of despair...)

My 7h build runs SoS + BiP, and subs in a SoGM / E surge depending on wether more defense / offense (respectively) is needed. The spirits will indeed clear the seals very quickly but I would try for the more damage route in normal mode and the huge defense from SoGM in hard mode.

tbh im keen to run this mission if you all are up for it lol.

Ugh... I had to redo this mission to map and cap.
Awful. At least it wasn't HM.
One way to do this mission HM, is to wait until it's the Z-mish of the day and get a full party. Easily the best way to just get through it.
