----------

yes that's normal.

the reason is that prophecies, factions and nightfall are campaigns and each of them can be played separately without having other two added to account whereas eotn is an expansion and requires one of the other 3 games on same account in order to be played

welcome to community btw

yes welcome to the game glad your here at last

Now look after those cards as they are the ONLY proof you own the game.
Don't let anyone copy the code on them and when you set up your account choose a good password one no one is likely to discover.

bottom line is someone gets those details they can log on change the password and lock you out.
Not trying to scare you just want you to have a good experience playing the game.

have fun

a quick question.
how do you set up your own password? ive not been playing this for too long and my account was hacked by gold sellers a little while ago.
the only way i can see to get a new password is ask for one and guild wars emails you a new one. i'd far prefer to put my own on but i cant figure out how to do that!
sorry if im hijacking this a bit! cheers

There are two types of quests in Guild Wars: Primary and Secondary. When you open your quest log (using the "L" key), the Primary quests will be listed at the top. Any other quests will be listed below that, separated by location.

Primary quests advance the story of the campaign. In Factions and Nightfall you must always do them. In Prophecies there are some that can be skipped, but this is not a good idea for a new player, so you should just do all Primary quests.

Secondary quests are optional, but it is a good idea to do them. They give you extra rewards, like skills or special tokens that can be traded to NPCs for items like ID kits. The experience (XP) rewards from these quests help you level faster. But it's up to you to decide whether to do them.

One bit of advice: do not be in a hurry to choose a secondary profession. You must choose one before you can advance, but you should do the quests for all of them before you pick one, even if you already know which one you want. Doing all the training quests unlocks many skills that you and your heroes will be able to use later.

You can change it in the "edit account" (or sth) section seen in the bottom of the screen right after you log in (in the character selection screen)
E: that was for the password question

If you started in prophesies your in the presearing and there are a lot of quests many involve learning new skills some of them for the ranger and others for secondary classes.

Try out all the secondary classes before making the deciding on the one you want to use for the next part of the game.
"you can change secondary class but not for some time"

enjoy

no, you will be able to unlock skills from all professions on your 1 character. Once you get farther into the game, this will become a "title" that you can display on your character, mind you it only counts "elite" skills.

Ranger is your character's primary profession and you start out being only a ranger. One of the quests you must complete is to choose a secondary profession for that character, becoming a Ranger/Monk or a Ranger/Elementalist or some other combination. You don't create a new character, but gain more skills for your current character.

To choose a secondary profession you must speak to an NPC trainer in that profession who will give you some skills and a quest to complete. There is a different trainer for each profession.

For example, you can speak to an Elementalist trainer, learn some elementalist skills, and be given an elementalist training quest. Once you finish that training quest, you can tell the trainer that you want to become a Ranger/Elementalist. Or, you can tell the trainer that you haven't made up your mind yet, which leaves you free to go speak to the other trainers and learn their skills.

It is better if you speak to all the trainers and learn some skills for all of the other professions before you choose one.

Sorry I didn't mean to confuse you, I guess after 5 years I forget how confused I was in the first few days.

Whichever starting point you chose Prophesies Factions or Nightfall, there will be a number of quests that temporarily give you a secondary class.
for example Ranger/Elementalist, you are then asked if you want that to be your secondary class.

If you say yes then your fixed like that and can learn both class skills.
Later in the game you can change again in fact you can then change secondary as often as you like.

Since your totally new to the game I was suggesting you should try out all the secondary classes before deciding.
Take things slow and enjoy yourself, btw sometime soon hard apple cider and pumpkin pie slices will start dropping from some kills its a bonus for thanksgiving one of a number of in game festivals you can enjoy.

You don't need one unless you plan to buy something in the in game store. There's also a theory that it'll be used in order to transfer the hom (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Hom) stuff from gw1 to gw2, no official information on that as of yet though.

There has been official information on that in the support forums. An NCSoft Master Account will not be required to link GW1 and GW2 accounts. There is a thread on this over in the GW2 Guru forums.

Sounds good ^^ just feel what profession you like and then start playing through a campaign. By then you probably know what to do. The eotn and NF campaigns give you access to heroes who are really helpful.

You have lots of character slots. Just make a character of a profession, play it through the low-level area long enough to decide if you like it, then delete it if you don't. It shouldn't take more than a couple of hours to decide if you dislike a profession, so it isn't any great loss to delete it.

Glad your enjoying it.
I can only tell you about my early days playing gw, as we are all different and my likes are probably not yours.

Since I always liked rangers in fiction and role playing games that's what I went with first.
In quick succession I created a Mesmer a Necro and a warrior.

I deleted the warrior after about a week it just wasn't my play style and replaced him with a Monk.

Played all of them over the next few months.
I settled on the Mesmer as my main character and played till I got a good way through the game and started getting wiped a lot.

Took the ranger and necro to the same point and beyond, when I wanted a change I played the Monk for a bit.
By then I had learned a lot and was able to play the mesmer again and succeed in beating prophesies.
Deleted the Ranger soon after Factions came out "stupid idea" and shortly after started a Factions Ranger.

Those original 3 characters mesmer necro monk are still here 5 years on and have completed all the games.
