Vampiric Bow String
Barinthus
I did a search and got tons of threads from Price Check, Buy, and Sell forums.
So I apologize if this have been discussed to death already.
I was wondering how would a ranger use a Vampiric Bow String? Why would a ranger want one?
Many thanks!

Search tip: you can choose which forums to search in, so you could have just picked Q&A for example.
Vampiric means more damage, plus a nominal amount of health back to you. This effect is increased with multiple-hit skills, like Dual Shot and Barrage.

Thanks Savio.
Same principle as zealous string then?

Pretty much; Zealous is for energy, Vampiric for damage.

A big reason to get a vampiric mod is that the extra damage it deals cannot be reduced by any means, so long as your attack hits. It cuts right through armor, and ignores spells like Reversal of Fortune and Protective Spirit. I believe this property extends to any life steal effect, including Necromancer spells like Vampiric Touch/Gaze.
A minor downside of life steals is that the transfer amount cannot be magnified in any way. For example, you won't steal more life if you attack a Frenzy-using warrior.

Wait wait wait, are you guys saying that a Vampiric weapon adds damage to each hit (1-5 depending on the quality of the Vamp mod)? I thought it just did normal damage and then gave the player some health.

VGJustice - Vampric weapons add damage over the normal damage, and this damage is transferred to you as health.
Thus say you have a +5 Vamp Bow that does .. letssay 20 damage to a foe on a normal hit.. when it hits it will do the 20 damage PLUSE the additional 5 damage and then you will recieve +5 health back (ie the 5 bonus damage the vamp string inflicted).

kamatsu, thanks for the info. I couldn't find anything with a search (go figure).
I suddenly have a craving for a Vampiric Short Bow *smirk*

Zealous is better for all propose ranging. vampiric is used in quick spikes.
vampiric isn't a smart choice to keep up though. Your energy is noticably more limited than with a zealous string on, and keeping the vamp out when not attaking is pure idiotic.

Vampiric DOES NOT add any extra damage. Thorough user tests documented in this forum and over at GWONLINE (sorry, don't have links handy) have proven this. Most players assume otherwise because when you are being hit with a vampiric weapon you see negative numbers for "Life Stealing." But that is just a display "quirk."

Life Stealing goes off before damage. How do i know? I have a 5/1 Vamp Bow. I have attacked mobs with invisible amounts of hp remaining, and recieved between 1-4 health from the life stealing, the creature died, and I never saw any damage numbers at all. This leads to the conclusion that life stealing is independent from damage.
Former Ruling
Unienaule's claim totally makes jray's claim invalid.
I'm more inclined to beleive the ladder.

Sweet. So many weapon possiblities for a ranger!!

Is there a conclusive experiment showing that Vampiric-modded weapons indeed do more damage, and also showing the amount of extra damage they do? I see no reason why it would be designed that way (why should Vampiric steal health and do additional damage? The former is the only thing I expect it to do), so I'm inclined to disbelieve that rumour unless there are some numbers backing this up.

LuxA - To be honest, I'm not sure. I have a Vamp weapon and when I use it I see the +x healing but no extra damage to the enemy (ie I see 1 damage number). However doing a bit of research it seem's that people claim it does add extra damage, but you only see the extra +x damage if your on the receiving end of the hit - which means the only way to test it would be to PvP and run into each other in the arena's/tomb's/GvG/etc and then have the person being attacked monitor (and take Screenshots of) the damage number's they see.

Thats just doing 1 search through Q&A forums though. There might be better threads/information to be found - I just did a quick search after all

Well, it is possible to have the theory of that the 5 life steal actually is part of your weapon. For example: 15-28 bow becomes a 10-23 +5 bow under vamperic influence.
If that hold true, vamperic bow will run out of place quite soon.
Although I kind of doubt this theory, just a quick thought.
