Most Valuable Class
Omniderad
Hey all,
I am looking to make a new class and playing through all campaigns! Lots of game time going to GW lol.
I want to hear various opinions on what class is easiest to:
a.) Solo
b.) Solo with henchies
... but still be useful in a group.
Thanks all.

A Mesmer or Rit would be your best bet. However the HM update that will be here in a few days will give classes that deal mostly armor ignoring damage a nerf due to mob health increases. The rit is also going to see some nerfs to SoS, DWG and Spirit Rift. Mesmers will still be powerful due to their amazing shutdown options. After the Ele update(which comes with the HM update to) you might want to consider Ele if your looking for a more damage oriented class. Once this update hits Eles will take back their role as superior damage dealers like they once were before HM was implemented.
Legendary Elementalist
Where can I find about that update? Sounds like a super update!

I know in some games they have professions or classes that specialize in solo playing, but Guild Wars is more of a team or party based game. With that said you should take a look at http://www.gwpvx.com/Category:All_wo...farming_builds for some insight on what's used (for farming).
All the professions can be useful in a group, just some are more limited than others. You won't be valuable or find the game as easy if you play poorly or run poor skill sets. Find the one you enjoy.

I love my assasin. I have gone through all campaigns with ease.....
Maya Cerestiez
Ritualist for solo and with henchies/heroes
Mesmer for going with henchies/heroes
Elementalist might be something after update, both solo and with hench/hero.
Basically what Swingline said, just seconding it.

Definitely ritualists and necromancers. Spirit spam and Minion master builds are the best builds in the game.
Sagittario

I never said it was one of the most interesting builds, just one of the best . To be fair, spirit spamming is incredibly boring too.

I would say Necro is the most valuable class as the profession can be more versatile then most necros have blood line which is great curses another great line but they can turn there hand to healing whether its from rits skills or monk skills. they can spirit spam they can barrage from the ranger line they are also fun at running 100b from the warrior side

Nobody said ranger...qq
SoS with a ranger is second best to rit when you consider how spammable stuff is with high expertise. Rangers are also very survivable and can mesh well with proper h/h teams. They don't pump the damage some other classes do but there are some decent farms you can do with rangers. Just throwing that out there in case you want to try something a tad bit different. Have fun

I'm surprised no one said Warrior >.<
Buffs placed on a Warrior deal and damaging hexes that that trigger due to physical damage is ridiculous... and all that's armour ignoring.
Regarding soloing... there is a very very old thread buried somewhere. The player uses a Warrior and solos a lot of missions/quests using skills from the first campaign. A note for soloing--Hard Mode mobs are going to have there HP raised. This will most nerf certain solo builds simply due to having to burn through a larger amount of HP. I'm thinking Warrior W/N raptors farms and UW SoS farms.
Regarding being useful in a group, all classes do damage in some form. It's not a lot of times where people in PuGs bring skills that taken advantage of physical damage, and that's quite sad: RoJ Monk w/o Strength of Honor? SoS w/o splinter? And those aren't even the overpowered PvE only skills. It seems that although GW is a team game, players just bring the 'best' build for their class and not what may or may not benefit the group. Even so, you get the Fire Ele vs Destroyers :P
A few notes on some of the other classes:
Rits - Most common, SoS: Cast Spirits, twiddle your thumbs. You also get the Soul Twisting variety which is pretty much the same thing. You tend to find like, 5 spirits on each of their bars.
Necros are very versatile - If you're going for team support, you'd probably want to spec in Curses. You'd be able to reduce enemy armour, make them attack slower, and make them attack for less damage; in turn, you'll make your team kill stuff faster while not taking much damage thus making your team kill stuff even faster. You'll have 5 skills open to do what you like.
Assassins - I'm expecting their damage to be nerfed slightly due to coming Hard Mode changes. Most of their damage comes from armour ignoring bonus damage provided by their skills. Still, they do physical damage
Paragons - You'd probably want to wait for some sort of update or you'll find playing P/W _all_ the time isn't very fun.
Rangers - I haven't played around with them too much. I had quite a bit of fun in Normal Mode with them.
Ele's - I got through all campaigns playing as a E/D with a Scythe before the Derv update. If was fun--different, not optimum :P The next update is likely going to make them OP :P
Hope that helped
