The population of the game has dwindled since years ago. And I am sure will see huge exodus once GW2 comes out.
To make it easy to connect with people, can we merge the chat for deserted areas. For example, make all Vabbian towns have the same chat room and LFG. Capital cities of each campaign should obviously be exclude from this.
It would also be nice to be able see the chat room while you are in a combat area, so that if you just started mission, and you see someone LFG, you can leave an join them. Or while I am vanquishing, I can talk to others in the region, and if I find out they are VQing too, I can join them for the next area.
Guild Wars is an online game after all. A lot of people play it for the comradery.
P.S. There is always option to turn off the chat, so if some guy start trolling it, you can uncheck that box.

It's nice to reach an empty outpost once in a while I go to maguuma stade just to avoid all the haters.
Fluffy Kittens
that's pretty difficult to make with the current gw mechanics

Hello, Welcome to GUILD Wars... Might I suggest joining a guild. You can see chat even while in a mission. People are more likely to help a random guildy then a random stranger.

That was the purpose of Embark Reach, it's up to the community to use the resources to their best benefit, not just carry on slogging to deserted towns alone.

I often turn off local chat in most places anyway after a few minutes, too many morons.
Join a guild perhaps?

This is impossible in GW. Rather join a good guild with friendly and talkative alliance.
I believe GWG offers you way to find those who are not going to leave GW1 after GW2 release. Start new Guilds and Alliances with them or migrate to already exisitng ones.

The whole reason I am suggesting this is because the current system (guilds, Embark Beach, town-only chat) fails miserably at connecting to new people.
The guild/aliance system is a "exclusive system", so it can only connect you to an exclusive set of people. What I mean by that is if you are in a guild you automatically exclude yourself other people in-game by mechanics of the game. For example,
I would say from a technically standpoint this feature can be implemented (though difficulty depends on the architecture of existing system). You simple have something that relays messages between different existing channels, this can be done by the system itself or through a bot (like an IRC bot).
The only difficulty would be UI, as there is no current UI for switch between channel in combat areas, so a channel can get overpopulated with people in combat areas.

- I am in a Kurzick alliance, I will not be able to find someone in a Luxon alliance who might doing the same thing through my guild.
- I was in a high-end farming guild before which was in alignment with my long-term goal, but sometimes I just want to do easier missions/quests. Are you guys suggesting that for my short-term goal I should quit my guild (my long-term goal)?

I like the idea. Guilds don't cut it, they're too tribal in how they act and treat others. I'd rather find new players and grow my friends list.

If the chat box can tell me in the middle of an explorable that "random fame buyer [lazy] has won a battle in the hall of heroes", then why isn't it possible for it to tell me that "frustrated player is seeking help with the eternal grove at embark beach"? Make the player's name clickable for whispering, and restrict the messages to those on the same server.
