Just bought GW1 - Starting with LDoA
Inferos
So I just bought the game, logged in and ran around town to get used to the controls and what not... did some reading on a few classes and abilities, general gameplay, etc..
Then I decided the first thing I will do is tackle the Defender of Ascalon title. So a character was born, with the intentions of grinding out Level 20 before doing anything else. I have the general idea on how to do this, no clue where the specific areas are though.
Great idea or greatest idea?
Next on my list is Legendary Survivor.

Personally, I wouldn't start out as a newbie going for LDoA, but whatever floats your boat. The nice thing is that if you decide you need a break from grinding out LDoA, you've got more character slots to play around with.
As for all things Pre-Searing, www.presearing.com is probably your best resource. Good luck, have fun, and welcome to the world of Guild Wars.

the first thing what comes in mind to me when its pre sear, is fire imp stone
this summon stone can be used forever until lvl 20, but costs money
it makes so much stuff easier, but i dont know if you could afford/pay that
i dont know if its a must have, but it sure makes stuff easier by far, as it has your lvl, and can be used for the vanguard quests, which allow you to get xp from both enemies and quest rewards
these quests start from lvl 10
as Kook said: look at presearing.com for more info and tips you can use, some things may be outdated, but you can learn alot from it
also, use the american districts, as they are very active and there's lot of nice people (of course there are less nice people, but thats anywhere)
i hope you enjoy GW, and get enough help for that title and other stuff in GW
good luck

This game as a LOT to show and presearing (although very nice area and a dedicated player base) is just 1% of the game.
Play the game normaly you will get enough titles for GW2

you have a few characters slots...yes you could leave one in pre-searing to work on ldoa...but I would suggest making another and taking it thru the searing and find out what the game is really about (pre-searing is really just the tutorial, the game doesnt really begin until the searing).
I would suggest playing around with the other classes as well--you have the character slots--use them to see the world.

There are 2 ways to get this title and neither of them are fun to do.
One involves death leveling where you allow a group of monsters to repeatedly kill you near a res shrine, you can look up the details if you want to take this rout.
The second involves not taking any mission rewards till your 9th level then you take the rewards to get you to 10th, check the details online for the exact point to begin accepting rewards.
After this there are 1000 xp pt missions you can repeat till you get to 20th.
Its tedious from 7th to 9th level because so few creatures give you any xp.
Note to anet here, its about time you altered the game to allow players to take the 1000 xp pt quests at a lower level or offered some other method.
GW is all about having fun but getting this title is all about tedium, new players are bound to try for it and get bored of the whole game for no good reason.
The other titles come at a later date when you know what your getting into.
Make this title at least an interesting achievement for new players even if this somehow devalues it for older players.

I am debating on Monk or Mesmer, I think I may go Mesmer for the added challenge.

Hi there,
first of use the /bonus if you have the items. if so you will get an imp to assist you.
little tips,
just take the quests for your profession only leave all others for now
just walk to the outposts that alone will get you to level 5 at least
Do quest ..Charr at the gate once done map back to town ..press L Abandon it...then go see Prince rurik and do it over again...till level 10
From then on you can do the DAILY that award 1k points...but..take quest go out and kill few groups map back out again do this over and over till the next daily is due then take the 1k reward and do the same on the next one.
I have not put the Northlands in as if you are solo then the ones outside the other areas are good for you .
Once you are level 16 do all the quests then take rwerds as from level 16 to 17 the xp is minimal this way all the quests will push you to level 17 .
This is where the monster levels goup and your xp gain is more
As you are new it may take a little time but if you do it this way as new player you can get LDOA in 2 weeks maximum casual play

Hardest part is deciding on the class to do it with, as I want to make this my main.
Speaking of that, once I get the title I can exit and continue on to other areas without losing it correct?
Skyy High
Wow, that sounds like a terrible idea, unless your goal is to burn out on GW as quickly as possible.
Spending hundreds of hours trying to attain one title before you've even gotten past presearing? Don't do it man. LDoA will always be there for you to get later.

Thanks for the tips. I play on average 12-14 hours a day, so hopefully I can crank it out rather fast.

My first character reached lvl 20 in either maguuma or the desert, don't remember which. just saying that more than half of prophecies will be boring as hell if you get to level 20 in pre. I got a ldoa recently and first thing I did was get a run to LA... so happy to not have to play through all the low level missions. Of course, that's just me.
turbo234
on the plus side once you reach level 20 and exit presearing, everything will be low level for a while making it a bit easier to get through the game

However, if you're determined, then I would recommend starting out as Monk/Elementalist or Elementalist/Monk, concentrating on Smiting Prayers and Fire Magic. This combination is quite good at dealing with anything in Pre-Searing, giving you both ranged and point-blank AoE skills, single-target spikes, knockdown, and self-healing.
Whether you choose monk or ele as your primary profession, either one will serve you quite well for the remainder of the game, though elementalist would be a more versatile farmer if you have any ambitions in that direction.
Inferos
I'm not worried about burning out, I did a lot of hardcore grinds in one sitting on WoW (have done the Insane grind on 4 characters in the last 2 years, both pre-cata, most in only a couple of sittings - not spread out)... just seems like it would be a good challenge, and I would rather have the title and get it over with first then have to go back and do it.

if it is your first encounter with GW. DO NOT start with LDoA...
Crom The Pale
Inferos, you really have no choice when it comes to this title. What I mean by this is that either you do the daily quests, these can only be done once per day, or you death level foes. Death leveling foes to reach LDoA will take hundreds of hours, not an exageration.
The purpose of pre is just to teach you the basics of the game. There is a massive continent for you to explore full of missions and quests as well as PvP. If you have all chapters then your looking at 3 continents as well as dungeons to explore.
I do understand the wish to have the title on your primary character but in the end it really doesn't matter. If your building up your HoM for GW2 you will max out many titles in the time it takes to complete this one title.

Note: best method is do do the quest, get XP from killing the foes, and then abandon the quest before turning it in so you can take it again. Repeat until your done for the day, then accept your reward. Repeat ad nauseum.

If you really want to go down this route then I would recommend Ele/Monk
1. Get to level to without doing any quests (farm Quest Charr at the gates, just abandon and retake the quest without getting the reward
2. Start doing Vanguard Quests at level 10, wait for the Farmer Hamnet Quest and don't hand it in, just farm the bandits over and over again.
3. At level 16 do all your quests till you hit level 17
4. Grab the farmer quest again grind out the last few levels.
it will get boring and it is grindy

hrm, when i first got guild wars, the first thing i was considering doing was to get the LDoA. i wanted my main to have all the titles and achievements. at the time that i got it, there wasn't the 1000 daily exp quests back then. so whenever i hit level 10, i got bored of the area and decided to transfer to post. (death leveling seemed tedious)
well, luckily the title is account wide, so once you have it on one character, it counts in HoM for your whole account. i am now working on an alt just to get the LDoA. i didn't have any regrets making my main leave pre before hitting 20. i am having fun with my pre-alt and reliving the old nostalgia of pre.
though, because of that daily exp quest update, it seems a lot more people are hitting the title much faster. probably 1-2 weeks. if that option was available for me back then, i would have tried to have done it on my main. i guess i am the type that likes to have most achievements on one character. also, some people don't death level, but they use the daily quest and abandon it to retake and regrind the mobs for additional before turning it in.
if you ever feel burned out, just take a break or make an alt that will leave pre-searing.

I will add one point and then let the matter lie.
The presearing where you are now is the start area once you leave there the content you get to is really intended to provide a challenge for low level players say lvl 5 6 7 or so.
The title and staying in pre till lvl 20 is very much an afterthought to the game.
Have fun

Going against the flow here but..
Going for LDoA is a great idea .. IF you do it right, and IF you play other characters. Just leave a character and work it slowly little by little. In meantime you can play more seriously on another character and explore the world.
Here's my tip if you wanna go for LDoA:
First do a lil research (it's not dead serious) on which kind of profession that seems most fun to work on titles, that character is good to start out with on LDoA. Once you have it done, that extra title will be nice to have when you work on more characters later, especially when you go for GWAMM (ask if you still don't know what it means). Just don't rush it or it can burn you out.

You'll have a much richer GW experience by trying multiple professions, preferably in other campaigns so you can get their full backstory. I would actually suggest starting such characters first so you can more quickly get a feel for the different classes and determine which one you'd most enjoy spending so much time on, which you can then remake in Pre. Such a trial would only take about a day.
That way, you can break up the monotony a bit with your alts, and will have a firmer grasp on the real game and its mechanics when your LDoA gets out and starts working on survivor.

Thanks for the advice guys. I didn't realize the title was account-wide. That makes me rethink my original strategy of going about this... Lol.
With that, are ALL Hall of Monument titles account-wide?
With that, are ALL Hall of Monument titles account-wide?
MithranArkanere
Although there are account-wide titles, most titles are not account wide themselves.
Each character has its own Hall, but there's also an account-wide view of the hall that shows everything any character has ever unlocked.
The progress that counts towards GW2 unlocks and can be seen in the Hall of Monuments calculator is the account-wide progress.
Also, the "title of titles", a.k.a God Walking Among Mere Mortals, a.k.a GWAMM, transfers to GW2 on its own.
So to get everything you can possibly get to GW2 that we currently know it's possible, you'll need a GWAMM, and 50 points in the HoM calculator.
That can be easily done with a single character if you have all campaigns.
Some of us get even more stuff just for the sake of it.
For example, I'm getting the remaining armors in the Resilience monument and all normal mode missions and quests with all my 10 characters because... well... just because.
After that, I suppose I'll go for the 10 remaining torment weapons until I also fill the valor monument while I fill books and do ZQuests in HM, and then... well, I could go for the remaining PvP titles, but PvP has some underlying issues that I don't think will get addressed in time before they release GW2 and I stop playing GW1 as much as I do.

Character specific titles are titles that only that character can advance - such as the LDoA, Protector, and Survivor.
For the purposes of the HoM (and the goodied gained in GW2 through it), all titles and items recorded there (by any character) apply to the entire account. Duplicate titles and stuff will only count once.

You can easily get LDoA in 3-4 days if you play 10h+ a day, INCLUDING breaks for sleep, bio, eating, exercises, walking the dog, and more. Getting to lvl 10 takes the longest, tbh, and then there are several milesteps to take (like 16->17, i think), but it's not all that bad.
I got LDoA on an elementalist, and as someone mentioned it earlier, just do the daily quests until you get Farmer Hamnet, then farm the bandits over and over. Here's a newbie-friendly roadmap for getting LDoA (please keep in mind it might not reflect the today's quest, so be sure to check the cycle on wiki yourself).

Thread is getting a bit derailed. Pre-searing.com is your best bet, they have lots of ossum guides, I see a lot of people posted about it + I saw a new player friendly guide somewhere in the comments. If you like grind go for LDoA, you do have other character slots if you get bored or want to try something different. Good luck!
