Hello,

i'm new in guild wars and i have a problem.
(i'm playing an elementalist/necromancer)
I am dieing all the time! , totall deaths is now 18!
most of the time is it because 4 charrs are attacking my team (npc's), then there come 4 more and 4 more, and than we die.
What to do?

I'm going to assume that you're still playing in pre-searing, and that you're encountering this issue on the other side of the gate. If I'm wrong, let me know.

I also play an elementalist, and when I first began trying to do that area, I had the same issue you're talking about... more and more charr piling on top of me.

I had to learn how to "pull."

What this means is that I got myself a bow. Specifically, I used the "Nevermore Flatbow" that came as a bonus with my game purchase. You can check if you get one too by typing "/bonus" (minus the "" marks) into local chat. If so, you'll get a bunch of weapons and a summoning stone which will give you a little fire imp ally who will help you fight. If not, I'm pretty sure you get a bow as a quest reward for the quest "North of the Wall."

With my bow, I learned to pay attention to the movement of the charr and their patrols on my compass map (the movement of the little red dots). I'd wait until it looked like one group of charr were sort of on their own, and I'd shoot off an arrow and run away slowly, so that they would chase me in a small group.

This then allowed me to fight them away from all the rest of the charr who otherwise were all too eager to dive in and slaughter me. LOL

There's a little information about pulling on the Wiki here: http://wiki.gtm.guildwars.com/wiki/Pulling

It can take a bit of practice to learn how the charr patrol and how best to pull them away from the main group, but it really isn't too hard... just be patient with yourself.

Also, I don't know if you have permanently chosen Necromancer as your secondary, but if not, you might consider becoming Ranger secondary for a while and going and charming a Melandru Stalker. They're quite handy to have and will often draw the aggro of the charr so you can stand back and cast your spells.

----------

I realized I wasn't clear about something -

You don't have to be a ranger to use a bow. You just equip it in one of your weapon slots and use it for the pull... then switch back to your wand or staff for casting your spells after the small group of charr has chased you.

The requirement on the bow won't stop you from using it to pull, it just means you won't do much damage with it - but you don't NEED to do damage with the bow... it's just a means of getting the charr's attention from a longer distance than your staff or wand will let you cast from.

Welcome to Guild Wars! Part of your problem is that you're only level 4. That will make the area you're in pretty tough. It's not a biggie, though. But the big thing is getting your armor upgraded - there are two armorer NPCs in Ascalon City (I think it's Corwin that has the higher armor rating). If you haven't upgraded, you'll have a pretty roguh go of things until you do.

Good luck & have fun!

First, open the Quest log (I think the default hotkey is "L"). Then, click on the quest you wish to see to make it the active one. You can then see two things:

1) On your compass (top right of the screen), there will be an arrow showing in which direction to go.
2) On your map (default "M"), you can see where the objective is. Note that you can drag the map around if the objective is far away. If the next objective is in the same zone you are in, you will see a green asterisk/star. If the objective is in another zone, you will see a green arrow indicating where the portal to the next zone is.

Please also note that a few quests do not have such markers.

Ahh... yup, that could be a problem then. It also sounds like you have headed north out of Ascalon instead of south - since you wouldn't be meeting up with any charr south of Ascalon (at least not that I can think of?). South of Ascalon you should be encountering things like Stone Elementals, Grawl & Gargoyles.

My suggestion would be to just spend a little time killing those instead of heading up towards the Charr, at least until you've leveled up quite a bit. I would also make sure you're taking a balanced party of henchmen with you - grab a healer, a warrior and a mesmer if you can.

If you send me a private message here with your in-game name, I'll track you down in-game and bring you a few things that'll help you out. I can even drag you around a bit and get you leveled up some.

Just look around any outpost for new quests, if an npc has a green exclamation mark over their head then they have a quest to offer you.

With the exception of the Zaishen Scout. Watch out for him. He has a green exclamation mark above his head, but has no new quests as such. He'll take you to Embark Beach, which is fine, but alot of new players struggle to figure out how to exit it. See somebody everyday there asking for help on how to get back to Ascalon City.

I suggest you stick, at least casually, with the storyline (primary quests and missions) because that way you'll delve deeper into the story and progress to more challenging areas.

The problem you're describing is overaggroing. Careful pulling with a longbow or flatblow will minimize the risks. If you still are about to be overrun, there's noting wrong with falling back and lick your wounds before you pull the group again and kill them off. Be sure to regen all your hp and energy.

Also, I think nobody named it yet, but to start missions (ex. The Great Northern Wall is the first one) you need to click "enter" button under the party window.
It may be intuitive but one could run around for ages before figuring out, so it's always useful to tell I think.

FYI, NPC's giving quests can also be found in the instanced explorable areas.

And you may wish to check the wiki on a quest you pick up since sometimes they increase the spawns in an area, making it harder to progress to the next town/outpost/mission. Having multiple spawn-increasing quests active in a given area can be a bit tough for some beginners... :P

I can't recall if anyone mentioned the type of bow to use for pulling, outside the Nevermore you get as part of buying the Trilogy...but if you don't have access to that /bonus items, any longbow or flatbow are ideal. As mentioned before, since you're just using it to get a mob's attention, it doesn't matter if it's not a max bow.

Regarding making sure you get all the quests and not missing any. If you dont mind a more systemic approach (ie. less natural) you can get yourself a list of every single mission and quest in every campaign, put it in a spreadsheet, sort it by "given at" and voila, youll never miss another quest no matter how obscure or out of the main storyline path it is. I do it all the time with every new character (im a stickler for completeness lol). Once you have the quest cross it out in your spreadsheet, etc. Its easy enough to find yourself on wiki and copy/paste to excel. If not i can probably find a way to upload the spreadsheet template and post a link to it.

As far as pulling goes, the best bow to use is a flatbow (which is what the Nevermore bow is). Better than longbow even as the high arc of the flatbow gives the puller more time to retreat. Also covers greater distances especially if you have the height advantage ground wise.

Also for quests, you might want to check this link on the wiki for Prophecies Quests - handy to keep as a checkpoint.
Alot of quests in Prophecies have skill rewards, so you make sure you complete those.

Cheers.
