Hey guys, as the title states i am a brand new player at Guild Wars, just purchased the trilogy this morning and would like some help in getting me started with a few things.
First off... My experience in MMO is pretty good, i have been involved in many server firsts in wow in PVE as well hitting gladiator rank in WOW in multiple seasons. So i have a good understanding on how MMO games work.
I also did try SWTOR but got really bored of that quickly and have been a fan of Guild Wars but only took the plunge now as the new GW2 looks insane.
Now before people flame me i know that this is completely different to WOW but i thought putting down experience would be of use as i am looking for a guild that enjoy playing and i can understand rules of Vent/TS and so forth.
I am currently at work atm so i havent got a chance to get home and play but found these forums very helpful and hopefully some1 can lend a hand and get me into a guild that has a lot of active players that can assist me and i can enjoy the time in GW1 before GW2 comes out.
Thanks Nimble.

Welcome to Guild Wars! Hope you enjoy yourself. If you're looking for a Guild, there are always guilds recruiting in starter towns. You can also check here for guilds that are recruiting: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/g...ment-f265.html

Welcome to GuildWars and to Guru Nimbleninja
This is the place to make a post when looking for a guild.....
I would play with a few people first rather taking up the first invite that comes your way. But you can always leave a guild if it is not to your liking.

First, it's basically the same in regards to guilds when you compare WoW and GW. Both games you want a good active guild to maximize your experience and make friends, unless you're the loner type which is ok too.
What character in WoW did you enjoy playing? I actively play both games so maybe I can give you some insight on what to try out. Characters level quite a bit faster in GW so it's not hard to see how a character plays as opposed to having to hit 85 to really get a feel for a character.
There are no raids but we do have 8 man pve such as dungeons which can be quite challenging. Heroes. Heroes are NPCs which you can gear up, control, and give an entire skill bar to. You should get familiar with these as soon as possible because basically the game revolves around them now. You can get your first 3 in Nightfall and more from there later on.
The lore is great imo, and ties into GW2.

Hall of Monuments to record your feats and earn special rewards in GW2. I wouldn't focus too much on that rather than enjoying the game before grinding titles but hey whatever floats your boat, some people skip right to it. There are lots of guides on how to do this.
1 last thing, I realize you know the difference between WoW and GW but you also need to know there is an even bigger difference between GW and GW2.
Um I'm sure I've left some things out but I'll edit them in if I remember, if you ever need help on a mission just ask someone on the forums or in game if you happen to find a nice guild. Unfortunately I'm usually busy but you could always try PMing me and I can hop in to help.
Just remember to give the game a good full go before deciding whether you like it or not, first year I owned GW I didn't like it at all.. then it grew on me, now I've been playing for 4 and a half years straight. The mechanics can be hard to get used to/good at.

I'm sorry for hijacking your thread, but I wanted to say hi
New player to GW1 here aswell, even if I have to wait until I get paid (around 10 Feb) to buy the game, but I'm super excited to go with GW1 and not L2 or SW:TOR.
Here is my question: what's the best combo to go with Warrior?
I'm sorry again, seems silly to open a whole new thread relating new players questions.
Feel free to split this thread if a mod is around
Thanks.

You mean combo as in Secondary Profession?
They all have their uses. There are many successful builds that utilize many different secondaries, changed to suit the situation. Most builds will only use a skill or two from their secondary profession to provide a little bit of utility. After choosing your initial secondary quite early in the game, once you reach a certain point later on (it varies by campaign), you can unlock other secondaries and then swap between them at will in any outpost. So your initial choice doesn't matter much.
Picking a secondary mostly depends on what ability(s) other professions' skills provide that your primary does not. Some very limited examples: You may choose ranger or necromancer to rid yourself of conditions, paragon with its' synergistic adrenaline-based shouts, or elementalist for its damage-boosting conjures (though don't be tempted to go overboard with elementalist skills, since most are energy-intensive and warriors are a low-energy, adrenal profession).
Your initial secondary choice will also be limited by the campaign in which you begin -- a Prophecies warrior will not be able to choose assassin, ritualist, dervish, or paragon right off the bat, for example. So there are no hard and fast rules for what to pick.

Those should be your bibles right now. Reading up on the various professions would be a good starting point.
After that, read the guides on the professions that interest you in Guru's Campfire Section.
