Silly question.
I haven't played in over a year but started back to get ready for GW2.
Question. How can I figure out where I left off of my main quest?
I can not remember. I know I was at the part where something came out of the ground in a cave. Just don't know where to go to pick it back up.
Thanks

Have you gotten to the Eye of the North outpost? If so you'll find the quests in the Hall of Monument. There will be three quests (Asura, Vanguard and Norn) that will take you to three different locations, and can be done in any order.
The main one you'll need to pick up is "Against the Destroyers" which provides the general direction for the full storyline of Eye of the North. You can find that using the scrying pool inside the Hall of Monuments.

Check your quest log.
Once you have made it to the Eye of the North outpost and spoken to Gwen, Ogden and Vekk in the Hall of Monuments, you will have a primary quest called Against the Destroyers. You will also have three additional non-primary quests -- The Knowledgeable Asura, The Missing Vanguard and Northern Allies.
If you're certain you've already done this and are still lost, check your world map. It will have icons across the EotN areas showing dungeons and the major mission spots. The icons change depending upon whether you've done that particular dungeon/mission or not.
Additionally, wiki is very useful for tips/info on the missions once you're back on track.

I know I am way past the against the destroyers.
I just done the A time for hero's again.
I was trying to get back to the cave that had the "wurm" where there was a key or sword or something like that to get.
I think I only had about 3 more primary quest left.

If you've done a time for heroes, you've finished all the main quests. That's the final endgame mission.
