I have some questions and would be interested in people's answers.
I usually play the Mallyx quests with two computers, two characters and six heroes. My main character is a paragon and the secondary one is a monk with some party heals, ROJ, etc but he mostly is there for added drops. I get by okay on normal mode but occasionally have to use consumables.
Can you beat all four areas and Mallyx without consumables using heroes in NM? If so, what do you use?
Foundry always seems the worst. Have you beat it using heroes in HM and was that with or without consumables?
Do more gems drop in HM?

You can beat all 4 areas in NM, I just use a basic player support hero setup.
I don't know about hard mode with heroes only, but I would suggest trying it with consumables.
You get twice as many gems from chests, and because they are "rare" rarity they do drop more of them in hard mode.

i've played DoA on nm with heros only. i haven't used any cons until the point where i had to fight the black beast and fury in foundry (which i consider that area a complete pain). i didn't have to use any cons with mallyx.
i used this thread as a reference for build setup: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/d...t10472576.html .
it's possible to do all heros on hm... but it takes a lot of skill, time and dedication. i was struggling quite a bit in nm, and i personally do not intend to try it in hm.

NM all areas + Mallyx is doable without cons and normal heroes.
I usually take my Imba along with UA, N/Rt heals, MM with 19 points DM, ST Prot, Panic, Esurge and another mes, often ineptitude.
Fury group is easy if you wait till Ki's are close and pull the group to pillars to block.
I can kill the crap out of everything HM without cons too, trouble is certain parts are exceedingly dangerous and hard without cons: Cave i Gloom, Greater Darkness for example.
I never do Mallyx with people anymore, never a worry with heroes and keeping door open, and no cons needed

I did full doa (all 4 areas, same run) going on 2 accounts as well. My primary as Imbagon and other account as SoS. Heroes were something like: Panic, Esurge, FoC, N/Rt heals, ST shelter and some damage like another esurge or RoJ.

I made 5 videos with the 4 areas and Mallyx nm with my favorite team setup (player+7 heroes). As far as I remember, I only used consumables in the Foundry (and at Mallyx, but I found out that this this not really necessary).
I apologize that the written comments are in german, but if you don't care, simply switch them off and watch the gameplay and skip to the usual critical situations.

Good thing about these quests is you can do them in nm or hm and it still updates the quest log. so say you can do all but 1 zone in hm just do them ones that are easier for you adn your setup. I understand you find foundry harder so maybe keep that particular zone in nm and do the others in hm.

I do get amazed when ppl ask if places like uw/doa etc can be done with heros etc - before 7 hero update and mercs , how the hell did ppl do these areas if it wasnt possible ?
All areas in gw are possible - the level of difficulty can depend on the players and their experience within those places

When I last played (about a year ago) some people were selling heavy equipment packs. Why aren't there any for sale now?

The question wasn't whether it could be done or not, it was whether it could be done without consumables. In playing around this weekend, I found some heroes/builds that were able to do the Foundry and Mallyx without consumables.

Your best bet if to try out different team builds and see whats works best for EACH of the DoA areas. Expect not to find a "golden build" that wraps up all of DoA in one go, not without cons.
Majority of the team builds have been tested in other areas of the game in HM (missions, vanquishes, dungeons). Therefore, no one can recommend any one build over another. Still, since DoA NM is in par with other areas HM, many of these team builds will generally perform good.
It's 50% team build, and 50% player tactics (whoa, tactics in PvE??). Yes, knowing enemy movement patterns, balling behavior, using environmental setup to avoid breaking aggro, pulling, etc are all factors that not only affects how FAST you clear, but also whether you clear AT ALL.

I did find a group (panic ME, ineptitude ME, SOS rit, SOGM rit, 2 necro healers, imbagon (me), roj monk (yours truly again) that does all four areas, but some better than others. It failed badly at Mallyx, even failed once with consumables. In hard mode, this group fails badly in some areas.
My runs are probably slower than most because I usually try to agro one group at a time. Two or more are almost always bad in anything but the stygian veil.

I've traded (consolidated) between my two accounts but never see people selling them. Where do people go to sell them?

Kamadan and Embark and GTOB would be my guess. I'm not sure how busy the Euro servers are, but you shouldn't have any trouble during the peak times on the American servers.

Do you do all four areas without going back to the Gate? If so, what is the advantage?

I've done all of DoA with a single build without cons, it's all just meta stuff. I find that DoA is far more about knowledge than it is about your build, so long as your build is functional and you employ basic strategy. Some areas are tougher, like the Cave in Gloom, but overall it can be done with a single build in a single run. Mallyx of course requires a different setup, but you have to go back to the outpost to get in anyway, so it's kind of a moot point.
I haven't completed any of the areas in HM. It's not the foes as much as the ridiculous status effects. They make just about any build unfeasible without consumables.

The gemstone drops increase: 1st area is 1, 2nd is 2, 3rd is 3, 4th is 4. So if you do it all in one run, you get 10 gemstones from chests as opposed to 4. All those numbers double in HM.

I've tried using consumables on HM with heroes. Mostly I just burn up a lot of money in consumables.
