Assassin hero builds
sjr
Is there a good assassin hero build out there? I have searched these forums, the GWPvX Wiki - they don't even have any assassin hero builds listed, and the PvX Wiki - they don't have any assassin hero builds either.
With the new Miku hero I wanted to add this hero into some of the hm missions and vanquishes I am doing. So far I just left the skills on her the way they came from the unlocking, only removing 1 skill and adding beast mastery so I could tag the new pet Panda along. I ran 2 vanquishes today as well as the Zaishen mission from today. I was able to complete all 3 fairly easy but Miku was easily the worst character in the group being the only 1 that died (not counting a now level 12 Panda).
I was just wondering if anyone has anything good for the assassin as a hero. Based on all the searching I am getting rather doubtful a good build exists, I don't need a meta or great build I will take a good one at this point.

Thing is assassins need to spam attacks. Click really fast to be good. Heroes simply put, don't do that. Therefore, an assassin hero build can never be great, it doesn't even fall in to the good category. But if you really wanna use one, make it a crit barrage hero.

As pointed out already, assassins don't spam attack skills like a human would. That doesn't necessarily make them bad though. I, admittably, stick to dervs in my physway build but it would be interesting to see how a locusts fury sin would do (which I think would probably be more damaging than a crit barrage sin). Maybe I'll try one out sometime...

Another downside is that sin heroes don't get a non-elite IAS. Players can use Crit Agility, but heroes have to use an IAS from their secondary (or WoTA if you can spare the elite slot).

Unlike a lot of posters you have made an attempt to find info for yourself, thank you for doing that. But you have essentially answered your own question at the same time.
If you insist on using heros with terrible ai,feel free to post some builds for critique.

The best sin hero build I've seen is a crit barrage (Barrage | Way of the Master | Critical Eye), but a ranger hero would do better as barrage and many other hero builds are better in general.

Re: Barrage - Personally, I don't do that. I have Anton use Incendiary Arrows instead, so that he can use Disrupting Accuracy. Since I mainly run Mesmers, Incendiary at 0-2 WS is great at triggering Fragility. For IAS, I use Beast Mastery and take a pet, it works alright.

Looks like Lex already beat me too it, but I would also suggest disrupting accuracy, along with critical eye, way of the master and keen arrow, how would seeping wound and hunters shot work? Does the A.I use seeping wound properly?

I use this build on Anton as a crit interruptor:

And I have Zenmai set up as a Crit-Scythe:

Neither one are "GREAT", but in NM, I find them good enough. Anton can be a good addition to a group in HM in the right battle...planning is key for using either one.
Anton makes a pretty good Interrupter, just target who you want him to hit. Zenmai can be a good addition for multi-target damage, again not "GREAT", but can be of help in the right battles.
Just my thoughts and uses...YMMV...

I tried running with zenmai and anton before 7h was around, they did ok, but not very well. They used seeping wound well, and ran through their simple attack chain, but not quickly and occasionally they'd use their jagged strike twice on the same foe instead of completing the chain.... Since i was a SY/DS spammer we vanqed snakedance just fine but i haven't used them since. The only usdeful thing I learned was that heroes will spam inspirational speech on you in a fight, but need to be micro'd between fights...
Maybe give them a chain with a long recharging lead, or a offhand that skips the lead.

The only use I have ever found for a hero Sin is fighting Shiro.
And that was just for stance removal skills (Im sure a hero derv or warrior would do just fine)
Bottom line is: Sins and ranger almost never see 7H action because there are so many better options.

It can't be overstated how useless Sin heroes are. They are absolutely at the bottom of the crap heap, not a single build they run even approaches what the 2nd weakest hero profession (arguably either Ranger or Paragon) can run.

I tried running sin heroes in my party, and really wanted them to work, but in the end ended up dropping them because buffed up derv heroes were putting out more damage with party support

I've been struggling with this too and had Miku in my party for one zone then she was gone. But then I was tired and not giving much thought to the full potential of an AI sin.
Locust's Fury sounds like a great idea to back up VoS/MoP but then you might as well bring two VoS dervs right?
How about Locust's fury + conjure fire + the player character calling with Mark of Rodgort? What other skills make happiness upon fire damage? (i'm on this line of thinking thanks to the new imperial dragon daggers). That is probably just a worse Discord-style setup.
Thanks for talking about MoP though, I had no idea the packets from VoS/Splinter triggered Barbs/MoP.

I think a good place to start for finding a decent role for the assassin is to first look at the "archetypes" of party composition. What roles do you need in a party? Then examine the assassin according to each individual roll. For example, the Disrupting Accuracy / Incendiary arrows build. I always tend to run a mesmer in my party because I like having the roll of an Interruptor/Preventor there to stop the mobs from getting bad stuff off. But the assassin can also fill this roll with disrupting accuracy. So it's a matter of weighing the pros and cons between the two professions as they fit into that roll. "Well Gwen can weaken with Signet of Weariness and has more on-demand interrupting, but Miku can apply degen with Burning and interrupt more frequently."
If you try to look at the assassin in terms of the entire party instead of smaller, more basic studies, it will probably be harder to find something good.
