Has anyone ever gotten an account unbanned?
Zenos Squad
My friend was not banned for botting, but for constantly racial slurring and unacceptable behavior. Does anyone know someone who has been banned permanently for the same reason or anyone who has gotten a ban lifted? If so, how long was the time between it was banned and lifted? Not looking for advice to get it unbanned btw, my friend is curious for a yes or no.

Simply put if racial slur and unacceptable behavior is the reason he got permanently banned, it is highly unlikely he will get the ban lifted. And in my oppinion he should never get it lifted either.
Bans getting lifted mostly only happens if they made a mistake in the ban process. Or if you can somehow make them realize you were not guilty / was hacked or something along those lines.

Short answer: yes. And I know for a fact that people who have been guilty of things like botting and abusive behavior have gotten permanent bans reversed.
However, if the ban resulted from a prolonged pattern of behavior they're probably SOL.

Wow. Your friend seems like a super person. Considering I've seen some pretty miserable racial abuse hurled at players that only netted a 72 hour cool off ban, I can't imagine what kinds of horrific things someone had to say in order to earn a permanent ban for it.
Your friend would have to do a hell of a lot of convincing of ANet for a reason why they should be let back into the game, for starters...with bans for botting/leaching an explanation can shed totally different light on a situation that as Martin said could lead to a ban being overturned. It's kinda hard to petition the same way when it would be your chat logs being used against you because ANet would have a full dump of what was said and done.

Write a letter to NcSoft saying your deeply sorry. Ask them if they can unlift the ban.
Just to expand your knowledge, usually they don't revive banned acounts. Still ask them to atleast give him a new clean account so he can play somehow.

FWIW, ANet have said that if someone re-purchases the game keys and creates a new account to attempt to start over, they won't stop them from playing unless they re-violate the EULA on the new account.

Aside from the rights and wrongs of being banned for something now you can buy the game very cheaply why not just come back with a new account.
There is really no such thing as a permanent removal of a person from the game the maximum that can be done is a permanent removal of your achievements so far.
I suppose if anet put enough effort into it they could ban someone no matter how many accounts they bought assuming they identify the actual person and can track them.

Well, his racial slurs were not of the nature to oppress someone, more on the joking end. Yes, we all realize that race jokes or race anything is not acceptable by any standard, but I'm sure he meant no harm. He only said racial comments in a indirect way such as calling someone a jewbag or using the African-American term, which should not be spoken here, would spell out in all chat in singular form N I G E R I A. Like I said none of it is acceptable by any means, but it was all for entertainment in the form of jokes. As for his unacceptable behavior was trolling people in the opposing team who would be d-bags, but almost never used racial slurs when trolling in his defense, only cursed words.
Unfortunately, he broke the rules and agreement blah blah blah ANet has going on and it is a proper action ANet took against his account.
This was not a thread for advice by any means as I can see from a couple posts, but I appreciate what you guys in this guru community have offered.
EDIT: Also, he is not a bad person at all and knows what he did was agaisnt the rules. He just does not want to give up the amount of time and effort put into that account only to restart a new account in such a dying game (admit it ). Especially PVP titles, now I know not many people are PVP here, but I'm sure you can reflect on areas such as Heroes' Ascent or GvG does not have a huge base like it has had in the past.

yes, nothing to do with racial slurs though. about 4 years ago I gave my brother and a friend 100k each to help them setup their heroes. anet perma banned all 3 of us. Saying we were involved in real world trading or something like that. I wrote an email as did each of them, asking them to check the conversations between us. They did. Kindly sent an apology and unbanned all 3 of us.

I will gladly copy and paste said email into this thread if you are so inclined.

People who think that kind of thing is funny don't stop doing it just because they've been slapped on the wrist... they stop doing it because they actually learn that not only is it unacceptable - but WHY it is unacceptable. There's nothing to indicate either of you have learned that yet.
Whether or not he can successfully buy and maintain a new account that won't also be banned is hit-or-miss. From what players have expressed here in the past, it seems to depend on how intensely annoyed ANet is with a player. We've had people post that every account on their IP address has been arbitrarily banned for the actions of a single player - kids who got their parents banned, etc. because ANet felt the account infraction was severe enough that they did not want anyone on that IP address back in the game. Others have found that even though they openly own multiple accounts (a main account they play, plus mules for storage), all registered under the same NCSoft account, all being used on the same IP address, only one of their accounts ends up banned.
So I'd say the only thing your friend can do is to email support, express sincere remorse (rather than a litany of excuses for why what he did wasn't all that bad like you've written) and ask if his account can be unbanned or if he can have permission to start fresh with a new account. Though as others have said, generally even racial slurs only results in a temp ban... if he's been perma banned, I suspect this isn't the first time ANet has had to drop the ban hammer on him, which means they're unlikely to want him in the game at all.

This is true. It would be wise to follow the recommendation in this post, and email NCSoft or ANet prior to purchasing another account after a perma-ban.

Wow, that's a lot of control.

jokes are stuff like why did the chicken cross the road and two nuns walk into a bar. not curses and racial comments. i dont think he should be unbanned at all

Talk to support. They MIGHT unban your friend but keep in mind that consequences are set for a reason.
