Ok, a friend of mine has a pretty weird issue... she can no longer use ctrl in GW, wether it's to copy/paste a link.. or to show foes in the area, it does nothing..

I obviously checked to make sure her keyboard wasn't busted lol, but no it isn't.. the key works fine as a Push-To-Talk for ventrilo, or to copy/paste links anywhere else, it's realy just GW.

I also checked the options to make sure the key was still assigned to showing foes, it is.. but even if it wasn't, that should've still allowed her to copy/paste things.

If anyone has any idea on what might cause this, and hopefully how to fix it.. please enlighten me xD

thanks

The fact that you mention Ventrilo got me thinking. I know there are sometimes issues with the bound key and games. I would try the following:

1) Try playing without Ventrilo or other programs that may require the Ctrl key for specific action.
2) Try playing with Ventrilo but rebind the push-to-talk to another key temporarily.

If both scenarios still cause the Ctrl key not to function, then I'll have to think a little further. I know of a similar problem where one could not talk through Ventrilo while in a game, which is somewhat the opposite of what your friend is experiencing right now. The fix was to always run Ventrilo as administrator. Maybe this can help you too.

Thanks for the reply Guildless

The thing is we've played with ventrilo for like 4 years, without any problems, ever.
And yea, i probably should've mentioned that her normal push to talk key is not CTRL, it's her mouse scroll click wheel thingy thing.. i use it too.. we've done what you mentioned there. i just had her assign CTRL as push-to-talk as a test to see if her keyboard wasn't broken lol

(ok stoopid question, there is no bump rule for tech stuff i assume right? or do i have to edit answers into original post from now on :P)

Edit: i don't know if this is useful, but if im on her account on my computer, everything works just like it should, and our settings are the same.

I guess this means the controls are well set. Is there any way to test the opposite -- your account on her computer? That way we could rule out the possibility of it being an account specific problem (although I doubt it is).

I guess there were no recent updates made to other software? Maybe some keyboard/mouse software that auto-updated? You could try re-installing GW (or to save some download time and bandwidth, copy your folder on a USB stick and transfer it on her computer). If that doesn't help, we'll have to brainstorm a little more.

And I thought this one would be easy

Have you re-mapped any GW function that used Ctrl as the default? Or mapped Ctrl to a function that wasn't?

I seem to recall having problems with that because it seems that some Ctrl functions are "hard wired" and some are not and when you change them it gets "confused". If you haven't changed too many key-binds, you could try to reset to defaults.
