How much wealth does the average player have?
Fire Turok
Hey all.
Just a random question I had on my mind. How much wealth do you think the average player has?
*edit*
Forms of wealth: armors, ectos, zkeys, weapons, cons, pcons, money titles, minis. Will add more if requested.
Average playing time 3 years let's say.
So, by then, what do you think a player averages at in wealth?

I agree. You'd first have to define the qualities of the "average player" -- how long they've been playing, how often they play, and their general activities -- before we could even begin to estimate their wealth. And then you'd have to specify whether we're counting their total worth or liquid assets.
For instance, I consider my activities to be pretty average, but I've been playing for a while (and clocking some pretty heavy play during a portion of my time) and don't buy a lot of stuff, so I probably have a fair bit more than someone who's only been playing for a year, and maybe only on the weekends.

*edit* added some assets that would be considered wealth! Thanks for the feedback by the way guys, I really wanna hear what people think!

I would also guess the 100k range (and im not talking about all wealth here, just currency). Personally, I'v been playing for about 5 years now and my money has fluctuated between 100k and 300k for the last 3-4 years. I don't think I'v ever had over 400k in cash, and while I do have obsidion armor, I got it from farming just enough ectos necessary (which were then promptly used to get the armor). I guess what I'm saying is that Iv never actually had >400k that wasn't immediately spent on something.
My guess is that 100-300k is probably about what the average person who doesn't farm regularly has.

If I can remember correctly, the average was about 20K or so a few years ago.
Now it's probably a bit more, since there's less things to buy left and more ways to earn it.

I believe it probably is close to 100k or less for casual players(play time less than 20 hours a week) after that it would go up considerably...and thank for this idea it made me want to calculate mine out tbh
Fire Turok
thanks for the response I've always pondered this question, I will have to calculate mine in total too. Should report back with the results!

so wait if this doesnt include titles, armor, and minis (i thought the op did) then yes ofc i was way off
Blackbirdx61
I've been playing 3 Months and would consider myself a casual player, not a GAMER per se, and I have just under 20K available after putting max armor on 2 tunes and runes for 4(x2) Mercs. I would say by the end of a year I should have 100K easy If I dont sink it all in Prestige Armor, Weapons or Dye. I would think 100-200K a likely Average.
Not sure I would include Prestige Armor as 'Wealth' Myself as Armor has no resale value.

100k doesn't seem like much.....unless I'm reading 100k differently than I should be.
Personally, I'm around 850k in storage + 50k on alts + ectos. I wouldn't consider myself a hardcore player either. 2 years, couple hours a day, maybe little more on weekends.

Unless I'm misreading OP we are looking at total worth not just money in the chest?
If you add up the costs/values of all the items they have including armor, weapons, runes, minis, hero gear, etc. I would guess the average player playing for an average period of time for a 6+ year old game would be 500k +
1 set of runed elite armor is going to be 125k ish alone.

Yep, you have to define what an "average" player is and what they do with the stuff they get: After all, in the game you can find:
Fashon mayvens out there collecting every armor they can get their hands on
Socialites who spend most of their on-line time chatting it up in Kamadan, Shing Jea or LA
Title hunters who buy up all the booze/sweets/party items they ca get their hands on
Guilds who farm up stuff just to host parties and what-not and give all their stuff away as prizes.
Or maybe there's a poor schlub (me - LOL) or two out there blowing every bit of gold they get on Z-Keys to waste on that chest.

before I decided to start spending for all my alts I had 16 stacks of e that I was hoarding now most of my alts are at least 30/50 and I have about 3 stacks left. (All but one alt has zrank 3 and all have obsidian armor on at least one character)

Here's my wealth story (including everything!):
Yr 1 (2006) ~ 300k
Yr 2 (2007) ~ 3,000k
Yr 3 (2008) ~ 10,000k
For the average player, divide that 3, so around 3,500k

I would have about 300-400K if I have been playing normally if not more.
But that's the good thing about guild wars i guess, I don't feel left out even if I have less than 10K gold in storage.

3 years... we are including armors, ectos, zkeys, weapons, cons, pcons, money titles, minis... I would say after 3 years they GENERALLY would have a gwamm.. so in money invested in the money titles... 3 million right there... lockpicks or lucky title... both would net you around another 3 million and you only NEED one or the other in most circumstances. Given the average player that has a GWAMM is probably 45-50/50 then you factor in zkeys under the assumption they were purchased, 200, then theres another 1 million. 1 million more for obby and about 500k for a conservative estimate for the other armors for the stand. minis... we will give around 500k for full stand. another 300-500k to fill up the weapons stand with one set. and they probably would be sitting on an average of about 50-60k in pcons if not more, and maybe around 150k and maybe 30-50e in liquid assets because they would still be at the buying point... so MY personal opinion of your average 3 year player would total out to be about 10 million...
now taking into consideration it is pretttttty easy to walk away with 500-600k during just a festival alone I don't feel that is too awfully farfetched when you REALLY think about it and how fast and easily that money can disappear... that is also not to say that they spent that much but that they expended that much in resources getting their account to that point... plus thats not even factoring in if they start multiple characters, investing in heroes, and other shiny things.
again though, if we are talking purely cash on hand... my best guess would be about 150k + 30-50e

I've been playing nearly six years and I don't even have a set of obsidian armor or kind of a big deal. It's about how often you play, how regularly you play, and most of all, how you spend your time playing.
I don't farm, because it's the virtual equivalent of a pez dispenser, only less fun. Last birthday celebrations I decided I was going to farm glints until my eyes bled and I had 10 stacks of cupcakes. 18 cupcakes later I thought to myself 'is this fun?' and shut the computer down. The closest I've come to farming something, i.e doing something for the reward instead of doing something I would enjoy more, is finishing off the remaining points I needed for skills3 and glad3 so I could display them, and both of those were enjoyable enough.
I sell my shit cheap because I'd rather miss out on 2 virtual coins than wait 45 minutes for a buyer. I assume that some people enjoy buying shit for less than it's worth and selling it for more than it's worth, but that's not my thing.
Most of my 'wealth' comes from general drops when I'm doing other stuff, a whole bunch of zkey sales since they introduced those, and well, that's about it. Right now I have 400k plus like 35e. In armors and pets and stuff I have no idea, I guess another 1000-1200k?
One of the huge advantages GW has over other MMOs is you don't have to farm to enjoy yourself, wealth is only good for displaying. You can do what you enjoy without being forced to do stuff you don't enjoy. I did competitive PvP in WoW for a while and its a full time job just to keep your basic gear accessories up to date, which is why so many people bot for their basics in that game I guess. I actually enjoyed the low end pvp you had to do in order to get that gear, which made it bearable, but it was just too much work.

Using close to(usually under according to Argos Soft) market value of most of the things I have, and for minis using the unded prices(as though I sold my minis instead of putting them in HoM), I got a value of ~15.4mil, which probably doesnt seem a lot to some people, but adding it up I decided I'm a hoarder. I just used a group estimate for basically all of my weps, etc., but it was a pretty low estimate imo.
ValaOfTheFens
I have so little in terms of cash. Just over 50k in actual gold. My wealth is largely sunken into my stock of runes, insignia, upgrades, inscriptions, fun stuff(items used solely for titles), and performance boosters. I have 3 storage toons now and could easily have a few more as I only play one toon. If I never spent a dime on spiffy weapons and armor I'd prolly have storage toons filled with ectos. Nah, I'm too lazy to farm and I hate pugs so my money making ventures have been limited to 55 farming Kinya Province when the mood strikes me and the now defunct CoF(its fun to spam "WTB CoF run 2k!" in Doomlore from time to time...) runs of old. Spent 2k but made 5k in drops, maxed Delver, spent alot less on Vabbian armor, and made some inroads into Lucky, Treasure Hunter, and Wisdom. Those were the days...now I have to work or I won't eat.
If you do the bare minimum of quests and only a few dailies and Nick you should be rather comfortable financially. Frugal living will lead to untold riches and sweet rolls in perpetuity.

I've got three and a half GWAMMs, which includes Lucky, Unlucky, Treasure Hunter, Wisdom, and multiple copies of sweet, party, and alcohol titles. I don't say this to brag, of course, since I know there's people who have far more (and so I spent a lot of money on titles. Whooptee-doo), but rather that, had I kept the money from those titles, I'd be rolling in cash right now.
That, and my monk would have had her healing license revoked for Monking Under the Influence, but that's another story.
So instead of counting how much cash a player has now, I propose we instead (or perhaps, additionally) count the player's average cash flow (in and/or out). A player whose played 6 years, spent almost no money, and has a very low "income" might still be comparatively wealthy, whereas someone like me who has spent a decent amount on weapons, titles, and other shiny stuff might only have around 100-200k at a time.
Freeze_XJ
Well it's all down to your definition of wealth. I have some 300k in the Xunlai, a bunch of ectos and a few Zkeys, which i consider 'money' because they're generally accepted as payment. I also have a set of items that i can trade for money if i want, like some undedicated minipets, a few rare shields (would be hell to find a buyer i think), and some other things that might be worth a couple k.
Then there's the money I wasted. Chesthunter has just cost me money, and apart from the occasional mod i could sell, has not given me anything but the letters i can display under my name. I bought an emerald blade as well, back when they were 180e, and right now they're only worth 30e if you're lucky. How do you count that? (I'd say at current market value, which means a lot of things, like my FoW armor, have no value at all, since they can't be sold)
If I do the math, I'd end up with 5-6 million i can recover if i want, and well over 15 million gold coins 'wasted'. Probably many many more
(although i farmed most of my sweets myself, so do I have to value them at current value, or at price i could have sold them for when i got them, or not at all? Bookkeeping has never been my forte )

Right, so doing a quick math/guesses here
3107 Sweet - 100g/point = 310,700
3775 Alc - 100g/point =377,500
6128 Party - 15k/500pts =130,300
1255 Zaishen - 5.5k/5pts = 1380,500
26 Heroes in Hom - 5k/hero = 130,000
19white minis in hom + 1 gold + 1 green = 200,000
Elite Luxon - 100,000
3x Opressor - 150,000
2143 Treasure - (lets say i kept 500 lockpicks) - 1971,000
Runed heroes - 100.000
600k post + 120k pre + 50 e = 1240,000
So this is about 6m
39 Months = 156 weeks
1880 (total hours played) / 156 weeks = 12hours a week average
3107 Sweet - 100g/point = 310,700

My account is 2½ years old. Never did any powertrading. Only good drops I ever got was a vs and a random bds. Never seen anything rare from gifts. Rarely play nowadays, often I just idle in gh. Still got over 20 million in available cash so I would like to think that the average player at least has 500k. I mean, 50% of the active player base must have been doing CNY stuff at least a couple of times which easily gives you a couple hundred k's.

Really depends, because the result is obviously biased with PvP'ers, SC'ers, and those new farming quests giving you 5k every 2mn...Add to it the luck high value drops( let's face it, drop a mini polar once and this pays you most of your HoM..) and it's hard to define..
If i estimate that the average player has upon 3 years( 2007-2010 for a better estimation) :
- played PvP at least a little
- done a few SC's
- played the game normal way( cooperative missions, few vanquishs , etc...)
- has had a minimum of luck on chests and drops
- isn't addicted( i.e isn't playing 8hours day in average)
I would say he has the equivalent of 40/50 HoM

iirc years ago it was 20k average, but back then there werent all the SC's, decent gold reward for quests & books, Hm, etc. If you were to look at reasonably active account, so not people who picked it up played once and never again, or those who only just started. Age perhaps around 2-300hrs so they've played some chars through the game, dabbled in sc's/pvp/hm etc I'd say most would have around ~70-100k cash on hand. Perhaps around 4-500k ish invested in the account in terms of armor/weaps/skills/runes/HoM stuff.

Back there wasn't any reason to make several prestige armors sets.
For some time after they added the HoM, I would get my gold to 100..150K, and then spend it in an armor set, including the missing materials, dyes and runes, and it goes down back to 0..10K.

Hm. If i would add up titles+armor+weapons+skills+minis together, I would be flying around 10-15mil. I guess. That is pretty impressive considering that I never really did much farming.

It all varies what a player farms(and if they do).
I'd say a stack of ectos considering how much people spend on HoM now.or 500k
