Why and how long will this feature be disabled from in game?

We're currently going through some server security issues that they're working on. I would imagine it has to do with that. As for how long, I don't think anyone here could tell you. You'll probably have to contact support/the support forums for that, or for assistance with your email address if it's an emergency.

Not an emergency at all. Out of plain curiosity and to hoping they don't do something dumb like make it unchangeable. Though it can be linked to a NC Soft master account, I would rather change it to an e-mail login I will actually remember.

They sort of already did something dumb. Once you link your account to an NCSoft master account you can no longer change your email address, just your password.

But apparently yes they have temporarily disabled it: https://forum.guildwars.com/forum/fo...ge-login-email

Per Gaile Gray
"As the message said, the username change feature is currently offline — it is simply unavailable right now. We will post when it is re-enabled. Thanks for your patience."

Yeah, that is really dumb, especially considering your NCSoft master account is the number 1 exploited vulnerability in hacked accounts. I've never known anyone without a master account to be hacked. Client to server security has never been the issue.

I know about the NC Soft master account linking and the annoyances it can cause for anybody unaware. I believe the character name security question actually jeopardizes the owner regaining control of their account, you need the CD keys to be told that information then NC Soft master account linking jeopardizes the email because it cannot be changed which means not as much security for the account owner.

To put it simple, if someone knows your email address (and is linked which means unchangeable) to your account and knows your main character (the one you spent hundreds of honor working on KoABD) then you may be screwed. It's only a matter of time being bruteforced or keylogged.
