6th year birthday blues
N E D M
Does it seem to you that the 6th year gifts have a lower value (gold value and entertainment value) than previous years minipets?
Why, instead of heroes we see way too often, did they not use creatures/people that players might actually want to look like - pre sear gwen tonic anyone? Perhaps use henchies - I would much rather look like little thom than koss- (note: Kuunavang = cool, Rurik = cool, Jora = ok sure, the rest = ?who wants to walk around lookin like Khamu honestly? I am reminded of Macabre Tonic...
Just curious if anyone else is disappointed on these

Yeah this is something I kinda wondered from the start, lol. I really don't know anybody that would be happy to get the Goren tonic. Everlasting Cynn Tonic or even Mhenlo would be cooler than that (imo). Or even better....Everlasting Togo Tonic! But seriously, yeah...they could have chosen cooler stuff for the tonics. Maybe for 7th year. ^_^

I just think the minis are more fun across the board. So yeah. But they wanted to do something different... Can't really complain to much about a free gift, eh?
Sagittario
I hope they'll add some cool tonics this b-day.
There were only a few good tonics last year, indeed.

me'thinks that this years tonics will be the same ones from last year (they did make quite a few)....and yeah, disappointed with tonics on the whole and with which characters they choose to use for them as well. (really who wants to be goren???).
glad I got a good one--ONLY good bday prezzie in 6 years (and hundreds of gifts opened)..

I got EL Norgu for my 6th B-day. Had to give it away. Great gift to wait 6 years for. Not
Mouse at Large
Disagree - personally I like the ability to walk around as a Mad King with my mini-mad following
XaiXo
They're much less collectible and much less interesting than minis. As such, they are worth much less. It took me AGES to sell my Gwen and Keiran Thackeray tonics. Only got about 24e for Gwen, and 18 or so for Thackeray. Gave away my other ELs. Margrid? Why would anyone want to play as her?

Now THERE is something that has chapped my hide from the first anniversary - some of us have horrible luck. I was the one who got Goren and Kahmu tonics this year. Some people got hundreds of ectos in profit when they sold their tonics. I got 10k.
how fun.
how fun.

In total agreement on the character selection there. I'm sure they know whats cool and what isnt.. they may be thinking "well, what if we do this one, and someone says this other one would be cooler?" but still the same fact applies... who's gonna say "Man, i really wished they gave us a Norgu or Goren" - don't really see that happening. I say for 7th year they go out for some crazy tonics (Green - EL Kanaxai, golds - vizu, shiro'ken.. etc, etc) just go with the flow. EL mandragor imp would still rock.. just throwing that out there...

Agrees with the suggested choices.

I liked the tonics as an idea, nice change after minipets.
I have 3 of them now and have used each once and do not plan to use them again, this is because they were Norgu, acolyte sousuke, and Morgahn.
I doubt I will get much fun running around as any of them, any creature at all would have been preferable.
While getting one of the top birthday tonics would have been great imo there is a lot more fun to be had running around as a spider or golem or destroyer than there is looking like another human.

So far, I've had 3 characters hit the 6 year mark - got 1 Morghan and 2 Ogdens. Running around as Ogden can be fun, but TWO of them? Kinda takes the fun out of it.
(I know. I know. "Sell 'em for cash!")

The tonics suck not because they're tonics but because they were implemented in the wrong way. Why put something purely aesthetic in the game and not make it the best it can be when you have the tools at hand. Not giving the hero tonics their prestige armor seriously hurt their value... and not only their monetary value. It doesn't matter if something is common like a Flowstone Elemental. I kept my Flowstone because it looks good, the hero tonics on the other hand do not except for the green ones.
Long story short, not going that extra distance to make the hero tonics look better hurt their value and the appreciation of Anet giving us free goodies. I know its the thought that counts but its like opening up a present on Xmas morning and finding out you got lime green socks.

Personally, I would rather have minis. Still need a few in HoM. Spent my gold on weapons and don't want to stand around WTB.

The tonics were a nice change from the minis, to see my chars are nowhere near 6th year. But the mini's are much better imho.
JONO51
just give away a title
everybody loves titles
everybody loves titles
Veldan
Tonics should turn you into monsters / animals not humans, we are already humans and turning in to a different one is not special.
Gondrakif
I think the problem with most of the hero tonics is that they only have the "starter" armor which sucks. If you could get the "upgraded" skins they would be a bit more popular.
Horus Moonlight
^ Makes me wonder why the hero tonics weren't like the margo, destroyer, etc. tonics i.e. each use disguises the player as said hero in 1 of their available hero outfits.

I really wish ANet would provide some better equality. What kind of parent gives out presents but gives one child a diamond and another a lump of coal?
Zetor
You could sell tonics for a pretty penny near the start of the 6th birthday wave, but they dropped off very sharply after that -- I sold EL Melonni (yeah, Melonni ) for 75e in the first week. Now I'd probably have to give her away.
If you want to make money, you're honestly better off selling the unopened presents instead of hoping for that single-digit% chance of getting EL Kuunavang.

I'd like to see some sort of Guild Wars 2 mini - like the Shatterer!
If scaled like the other minis, the Shatterer should be at least twice our regular character's sizes.

I got talkora and Xandra, BLEH!
I'd rather a tonic that made me invisible lols.

I got ogden and olias...talk about tonics you dont want to use (nor people wish to buy--GAVE the ogden away).
Horace Slughorn
i hope you're kidding about gold value... el margo was 800e when it came out and now almost a year later it's still well over 100e.
and I personally much prefer tonics over minis.

lol Sousuke, nice joke.

Goren is big. Goren is strong. Goren is really, really good at sprinting into battle.
GODh
i hate it that all 6y hero-tonics are using their basic armors... my own heroes look better than that
tummlykins
I don't want to play with a bunch of players in monster form in explorable areas. The tonics are usable in PvE, I'd rather they stick to "not special" NPC tonics than monster tonics if I have to play with them. Personally I liked the tonics idea, minis I largely ignore.
Evaine
I like the green 6th year tonics. The only gold one I like is Shiro. The rest are a waste of space.
I do wonder what genius thought it would be cool or fun or amusing to dress characters up as ugly Heroes in their ugly armor. Maybe the same visionary has plans to make the 7th year tonics be modeled after game villains like Baubao Wavewrath and that ilk.

My characters won't start turning six until May or so, but I managed to buy a Kuunavang and Margonite earlier this year. I think they're a lot more fun than minipets, which I almost never used. And the previous tonics I didn't care for because they only worked in towns.
Maybe because it changes your character is why people are more particular about them? But I didn't think minis kept their value that well before the HOM came out. You usually had one or two popular ones each year that mostly held their value and the rest quickly became worthless. And people used to complain all the time about getting multiples of unwanted minis.
It was a nice change though, I'm a bit surprised at the lack of support for tonics given the former popularity of "minipets suck" threads before the HOM came out.
Hoping for a destroyer for one of my characters' sixth bdays. Or GW2, that would be even better.
