Sometimes when I alt tab from Guild Wars and then tab back in, for a brief period my character and everything else will literally teleport around the map when I'm running and other players too.
has anyone ever experienced this kind of lag and if so is there a way to prevent it?
thanks

It's a common problem.
Prevention? Do not alt-tab out of the game.
If you really need you minimize GW to check something on the web, be sure to swap to windowed mode first (on of the icons in the upper right corner of the screen), and then open your browser without minimizing GW, merely putting it behind the other window. More often than not, it helps, but sometimes after going back into full screen, you may be rubberbanding a bit.
Other than that - just wait a while. Rezoning several times helps with rubberbanding. Or just waiting it out, playing the game ignoring the issue, until it fixes itself.

Ah okay so playing in windowed mode prevents this? If so then that's okay ,I can live with that lol

This has always been an issue I think. I'm pretty sure zoning/switching dists always ended the teleporting for me.

I just learned to use steam browser/the minimize button up top :/

When with h/h I used to solve it just by flagging them out of radar. When back they moved normally, and I noticed your char recovers from teleport-deasease pretty fast anyway, so it was a good solution. Pity it doens't work anymore for me but maybe for others does it?

AFAIK what's happening is that the GW client is getting kicked down to low priority when you minimize it, so your view of the game world is not getting updated in a timely fashion, which kicks the client into "catch up" mode in which it skips animations to try to get back in sync with the server, which is borderline impossible once it's a fair ways behind. It seems the best solution is to change zones.
