Seeking Campaign Guidance/Correction

Hello all!

If I can be redirected to an existing thread that I missed while searching through the forums I am all ears!

Everyone's challenges are unique so I'll try to be concise & general...

I am a newer player working my way through the Campaigns for the first time.

1) While I'd like to complete every mission at the highest rating before moving on to the next quest/mission, should I not worry about that "perfect rating" in missions until after I've completed multiple Campaigns & theoretically I'll have more skills to choose from for myself and my npc heroes?

2) Best resource here on guru to help me properly build my npc heroes would be who or where? Or does the build of each hero depend on the specific mission or campaign?

3) What is the "ideal" make-up of my npc hero group (currently I can have 7 and myself) and I've been rolling with 1 Warrior, 1 Dervish, 2 Monks (healing), 1 Mesmer, Elementalist & Necromancer (sometimes I switch out Necro or Ele for an additional Warrior/Dervish). I am an Assassin, Dagger Mastery. Again I am open to critically constructive correction and/or guidance where I can do some reading myself (I don't want to be a lazy leech if I can go figure it out myself, I just need help knowing where to look!).

4) I feel a bit overwhelmed about the whole HOM thing when I read people talking about all of those "further along" tasks fluently (sp?). Am I right in assuming that I have enough on my plate just focusing on completing each campaign (I'm almost done with Nightfall then I'll re-read about which Campaign I should tackle next)? If so, should my 2nd step after beating all 4 Campaigns be to go back and seek to get the "perfect" ratings on all the Missions before figuring out what my next goal towards HOM should be?

Thank you for your help in advance, I've loved being a ghost on the forums soaking up your experience, passion & wisdom of the beautiful world of Tyria. Looking forward to being less of a ghost and more of a grunt among the GW legions

Blessings on your day!

1) You can do you're best at the missions, but if you fail the bonus, just move on. This way you dont have to do everything again but don't have to repeat a mission a 1000 time

2) gwpvx is a kind of wiki with a lot of builds stored. You might want to look under the great section of Team Builds

3) i myself use 4necro 2 mesmer 1 rit most people use 3/2 necros 2 mesmers 2 rits, though. Melee heroes aren't very good since their AI is bad.

4) just working through all campaigns is the best thing you can do for HoM atm. After that you can do HoM stuff

You might want to add me ingame: cheese o nator

Do the best you can your first time through, but don't drive yourself crazy over it. It can be helpful to search the wiki for the mission you're about to do so you can be aware of the bonus objectives and necessary tactics beforehand. But it's often more fun to discover those things as you go along. The point is to have fun.

You can look at hero & team builds on PvX to get an idea of what a lot of people like to run. Don't just slap the builds on your heroes and go -- look at them and figure out the synergy of why they work. That will help you understand how to make your own useful builds.

Our Campfire - Heroes section is also a good resource for hero builds.

When you find a good team set-up, you can usually use that for most of the game, though there are sometimes missions that require changing it up (for example, if you use a minion master, they wouldn't be very useful in maps where foes don't leave exploitable corpses ... if you rely on a lot of fire damage and burning, you'll be at a disadvantage at the end of Prophecies and parts of Eye of the North where some foes have high resistance/immunity to it).

3) What is the "ideal" make-up of my npc hero group This is highly subjective. Some people don't like using melee heroes because the AI has always been a bit weak. Some people swear by the endless energy of necros, and/or the armor-ignoring punishments and interrupts of mesmers, and/or the firepower and distractions of spirit-spamming ritualists. Some like the AoE of elementalists. On and on.
But I'm sure people who have more experience with dagger assassins will give you their opinion on what works best for them. (A necro with Order skill(s) / ritualist with Ancestor's Rage and Splinter Weapon / monk with Strength of Honor come to mind as useful.)

Am I right in assuming that I have enough on my plate just focusing on completing each campaign Just play the game for now. You rack up your achievements as you go. Once you have a firmer grasp on the game, you can focus your attentions on more specific goals.

That was the first thing I did. Once you beat the campaigns, you'll unlock Hard Mode for yourself, which will open the door for your Guardian and Vanquisher titles. Along the way you can capture useful skills for yourself and your heroes that will count towards skill hunter. Beyond that, it's mostly a matter of acquiring stuff. By then you'll have a bit more money, and a fair amount more skill to make even more money, to afford those things.
