After 2 years, I'm back!
WhiteStorm
Hello,
I've played GW from the beginning but I stopped playing 2 and a half years ago. I Was really addicted, lol. Also, I was pretty good .
But now with GuildWars 2 coming closer than ever I decided to start playing again for the HoM poings. BUUUT, I don't have my old account anymore, I sold it. STUPID ME. So now I bought the games again and I need to start from the beginning (I Remember I had the explorer awards from all the maps and stuff, stupid me!!).
I'm starting in Elona, that's the easiest I think. So my main goal is to get 50/50 (Or highest as possible before the release of GW2). Anybody that has some tips to gain the points ASAP?
Thank you very much,
A GW Veteran
EDIT: Also, I'm starting with a ranger. If this is not the best profession to get the points, please coment fast! I'm downloading the game at this moment :P.

Welcome back. Play whatever character you enjoy playing for your HoM, you'll be playing it a lot, especially if you're going for GWAMM. That being said, you can split yor achievements between characters, since the HoM, for GW2 purposes, is account based.
For more info on the HoM there's a nice sticky all about it here: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/c...t10454341.html

50/50 from scratch will probably be a serious push for GW2. .
30/50, on the other hand, is easy. You'll need to farm about 2.5 - 3 million and you can (just about) buy your way there. Or you can farm the hero armors/mats etc. yourself. Honestly, farming cash is faster.
Buy minipets (8/8). Buy hero armor and get special pets (7/8 is relatively easy since it can be achieved with NF and EoTN compulsory heroes). Buy 10 destroyer and a 1 oppressor weapon (6/8). Buy elite armors (7/8, no obsidian). With the 3 additional default points in Honor for account linking, you're upto 31 points.

Anything will work, but rangers are currently the worst PVE toon and my main. So you can make it work, but why not start with something easier. Rit, Sin, Mesmer, Necro, Monk, War, Derv, Elem, or Para in that order. That list takes into account farming and team play. BUT they can nerf or buff any class (as they do without rhyme or reason). Faction toons are their darlings. Para and Rangers the red headed step children.

Yeah, typical income rate from farming is about 10k an hour, maybe a bit less, depending on what you're farming. It's much higher if you speed clear, or PVP.
I'd play all the games through to the end as well, making sure to get the bonuses, since that will net you points in Honor that you can then deduct from expensive areas, like Resilience (armor) or Valor (weapons).

Most of the things must be bought? Or can you get this items by doing special quests?

Well, my main goal is doing this fast, so I think I will be doing that a lot.

The hero armors can be got by doing special missions, but the drop rate is unreliable and I've always found farming the cash to buy them faster.
Oppressor weapons can be got by exchanging 250 War Supplies to get 10 medals of honor which can then be changed for 1 weapon. War supplies are attainable by doing Shining Blade bounties which are part of War in Kryta and can only be done after completing most or all of EoTN on each character you want to complete them. Over 21 daily bounties, you will get 255 war supplies per character if completed in Hard Mode.
All of which is very long, and very time consuming, considering oppressor weapons can be bought for 75k each. Crafting the destroyer weapons is cheaper then oppressor, but the mats cost the same, more or less, as buying them. You need to finish EoTN before you can craft Destroyer weapons. Tormented weapons are a armbrace (about 22 ectos) each and you need to complete NF and farm DOA for gemsets etc.
For most of the armor, you'll probably get enough materials on the way, the exception being Kurzick/Luxon/Vabbian which require quite rare materials and will probably need to be bought. You can farm the Jade/Amber for the K/L armor, and you could do the quests to get enough Trade Contracts to get the rubies and sapphires for the Vabbian, but it'll take much, much longer.
Lithril Ashwalker
when u want to get vangaurd maxed - work towards doing the keiran quests in hearts of the north quest chain - you can make cash on the side to put towards other titles and get your vanguard title maxed easily

Thank you very much for the information guys. It seems that I have a hard way a head ...

Well it IS a game, so lets hope the struggle is entertaining at the very least.

Would be nice if you could get more points by finishing quests and special quests and stuff.
Star_Jewel
For a lot of things, you can do quests to get them. That's the point that was made above -- you can do the War In Kryta quests to get Oppressor Weapons, it would just take more time than buying them directly. You can do a set of quests to get a unique mini pet. A lot of the Honor monument titles are all about completing missions and elite areas.
And as you do those things, you can accumulate part of the wealth you need to buy the things that aren't acquired via quests (birthday minis, elite armor, etc.). And it's not like farming is only limited to one area that you do over and over until you're numb. There are many things and places you can farm, so you can switch it up to what's most fun or most profitable at the given time. It can actually be its own kind of fun.

You also want to farm. Rangers currently have a few viable farms. 2 of the mains are SOS and whirling defense. 1 specific is shard farming in FoW and is pretty profitable right now. SOS is better done by rits. Whirling defense you can use in a few places, and isn't too hard, but takes practice like any other farm. Rangers are decent farmer, but sins are generally better farmers. Don't forget to save the Escort quest in Cantha. You need that quest up to farm dragon mosses a good source of plant fiber and a shot at nice dual mod canthan shields, etc.
Rangers are last man picked for HM teams. They have very limited use in HM end content and speed clears. But if you take the time to learn to tank, you may be able to do some fow sc.
Splinter barrage works nicely in areas where enemies clump up. I usually go full ranger and let the SOS rit cast it.
Gone are the days of the B/P and raining death from above. If you play as Kieran (quest), you get to see what we're missing. Gl and hf.

Umm you asked and I told you, but have at it. It doesn't matter much and hopefully they will buff the ranger before gw2 hits.

Also, Getting 50/50 is almost an impossible job ?
Lyv
Well getting 50/50 is possible, but requires a lot of play time over a few months, especially if you start from scratch.
If you want to be done before GW2, you will need to focus on the most profitable farms (speedclears or pvp are good, trading can be rewarding but a bit tricky) and/or have lots of free time in your hands.
As for Ranger, it's my main char also, and I always play it as R/A, R/D or R/W (sometimes R/P), only using bows to pull mobs...sad but true.
You can still complete the game with it, there are just other alternatives which are much more efficient.

However, I advise you pick a class you enjoy, if you go for 50/50 you will likely spend a fair time with it.

It's not impossible, just very hard. I picked up the game after the HoM came out, about 2 years ago - and even though all my playing has been concentrated on filling it, I'm still only on 45 points. You've only got months, so while I think 30 points is easily doable, 50 is going to be a push; you'd have to play for quite a few hours every single day.

Let me say this, for example if my friend has 3000K in spare, I can get to 30 rather quickly?
+ Maybe a stupid question: But there are sites offering gold, are these trust worthy ?

3000k should be able to do 30 though; although some stuff, like hero armor, is so easy to get that it's a waste to buy it instead/

NEVER buy from a gold selling website. It is illegal, breaks EULA, and will get your account banned by Anet. & even if they don't notice, the sites are nearly always run by people who just want to steal your account.
