Hi everyone.

I'm back for some Guild Wars after a 5 year absence.

I had originally cleared the main Prophecies campaign - but not much else. I just bought Eye of the North and was checking out my main character's Hall of Monument and after some fiddling, managed to unlock 6 points just by registering the stuff I had already completed.

Anyway, right now all I want to do is finish unlocking whatever I can in Prophecies and some EotN stuff, as easily and painlessly as possible. I plan on playing a Ranger in GW2, so unlocking AT LEAST the Living Shortbow: A vine-wrapped living weapon on the HoM is really my #1 priority. If I can crank out 22 points to get the Legendary Bow, awesome too - but I'm not a great GW player at the moment due to my absence, and am just looking to do the easiest stuff until I get the hang of things again.

Here's where I'm at:

1. Prophecies and Eye of the North campaigns ONLY. So whatever you suggest, keep in mind I only have these two campaigns.

2. My current Hall of Monument Page: 6/50
http://hom.guildwars2.com/en/#page=m...AAAAAAA AAAAA

3. I'm currently a Warrior/Monk, but switching to Warrior/Ranger to get a pet.

4. I accidentally used a tapestry on Valor, so I need to get another one to unlock Fellowship for my Pets/Heros.

---I just finished the "Northern Allies" Primaries and unlocked a Tapestry last night without much trouble. I used that one for the Mini-Pets unlocks.

---I just started working on "The Knowledgeable Asura" last night, to get the help of the little dudes, but hit a wall (so to speak) and keep getting wiped in one the instances (for Gadda).

---So instead of frustrating myself, I was going to head back to Prophecies and see if I missed any other unlocks.

5. I was going to get a pet and level it up via the Menagerie/Death Leveling technique. But I'm not sure exactly how to do it or even if I can do it with just Prophecies and EoTN (and my rather boring gear - I don't have any vampire weapons or any idea of how to get one for this). I think I need certain weapons and skills - not exactly sure how to do that. But I may just level a single pet naturally, by doing the other campaign unlocking stuff. I watched a Youtube video on it, but it's hard to follow. Same with the wiki guide.

6. So far, I have 4 Heroes - Vekk, Jora, Ogden and Gwen.

7. I'm planning on using a Hammer Warrior/Ranger. This is the build that was suggested for mainly Prophecy-related stuff:

Warrior / ANY

12+1+1 Hammer Mastery
12+1 Strength
-Earthshaker - ELITE SKILL
-Crushing Blow
-Crude Swing
-Counter Blow
-Frenzy/Flurry
-Sprint/Rush
-"For Great Justice!"
-Resurrection Signet

Again - just a basic Hammer build based only on Prophecy skills. The Ranger part is just for the pet leveling.

8. My gear is fairly basic and Prophecies based. I'm wearing a full Char Armor set and I have a pretty good Hammer and a pretty good Bow. My Heroes aren't geared up yet though. They're just wearing whatever they came with.

9. I only have about 2K gold. And I screwed up and registered all 5 of my pets on the HoM, so I don't think they are tradable now. So selling them for more cash to get other unlocks ain't happening. (/smacks self for not reading up first)

(I sorta jumped into EotN for the HoM stuff and didn't do much research until now. So, I screwed up some stuff, which is why I'll be happy just to unlock the shortbow at this point. But any advice would be helpful. Just need to find 2 more points.)

----------------------

Basically, my #1 goal is to unlock 2 more points to get 8/50 for the Short Bow on the HoM.

Depending on how that goes, I might go for 22/50 to get the Long Bow too. But my time is limited and I'm not sure how hard that would be as-is.

So I have just FOUR main questions:

1. Is this W/R build ok?

2. What should I do in Prophecies/EotN to get at least 2 more HoM points?

3. Any other advice?

4. - Also - what's the best Solo-Grouping build based on what I have access too at the moment? (ie - Which Heros/Henchman should I bring for the solo stuff? I plan on doing everything solo with Henchman and Heros. Remember Proph/EotN only)

Thank you all very much for reading and/if if your reply.

I can't really help you with your build since I'm not really in to warriors, however your goal is perfectly attainable.

Leveling a pet as you play isn't bad, it just gimps your bar a little bit -- which doesn't really matter in normal mode. But if you get a black widow, you can skip that step entirely.

Let's break down your options....

-- Honor Monument --
Potential easy 3 points if you do 4 of the following (4 points if you do 9):
  • Protector of Tyria -- get whatever mission bonuses you missed. (Make sure you pick up a Flameseeker Prophecies book for extra cash.)
  • Guardian of Tyria -- All missions and bonuses in HM (get a HM Flameseeker and a Young Heroes book!)
  • Max Deldrimor
  • Max Asuran
  • Max Norn
  • Max Ebon Vanguard
[Completing North alone will not max these -- the Hero's Handbook and Young Heroes books will help, but some dungeons or rep farming will be required.]
  • Legendary Defender of Ascalon (easy with the daily quests, and you can farm Nicholas Sandford stuff, too)
  • Legendary Survivor (totally doable for you with Killroy or Snow Wurms.
  • Sorrow's Furnace (probably the gentlest elite mission)
  • Fissure of Woe (also pretty doable)
  • Tyrian Vanquisher
  • Tyrian Cartographer
  • Tyrian Skill Hunter
  • Sweet Tooth
  • Drunkard
  • Party Animal
[The consumable tracks will cost you money -- alcohol and party are probably the easiest and cheapest to come by. Sweets can be cheap enough if you don't mind the DP removal ones.]

-- Fellowship --

Easy potential 6 points.
  • 4 points from getting all 10 North hero armors. You can farm Glint's Challenge or buy the brotherhood armor pieces -- they're not expensive.
  • 2 more points from a Black Widow run. Look it up in wiki, it's not hard once you have all your heroes. Or you can buy a run.

--Valor--
Easy potential 6 points with some grind.

Farm the War in Kryta stuff. From there, it's up to you if you want to get 5 points with a full display of Oppressor Weapons and a 6th point from a token Destroyer Weapon, or flip-flop it. If Destroyer Weapon parts can be gotten for cheaper than you can sell the Medals of Honor, that may be your best course of action. There's also a potential 7th point to be had here from 3 more weapons -- an 8th point if one of them is Tormented (which you would have to buy from another player).

--The Rest--
From there, it's just a matter of making money to buy whichever elite armors tickle your fancy (you can get 5 points from that, 6 if you go for Obsidian, too), and start tracking down mini pets. There are usually some good deals to be had in our Ventari's section.

Is this a good Black Widow run guide to follow?

Also - is this soloable with 4 heroes and a couple henchman? Or will I definitely need a human-controlled group to do this?

Thanks.

The build seems ok.
You can drop res signet (and possibly counter blow) and take PvE-only skills instead. A lot of quests in Eye of the North will give you some awfully overpowered PvE skills (see here : http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Pve_skills).

You only have a few heroes, but it's not a problem since you won't need to do the harder parts of the game.
I would advise :
- Gwen : general domination mesmer with Panic or Energy Surge.
- Ogden : a mix of smiting/protection, with Strength of Honor to buff you. Unyielding Aura as elite seems appropriate.
- Vekk : fire ele, with Elemental Attunement as elite (and skills like Rodgort's invocation, fireball, fire attunement). Don't use fire against Destroyers, though.
- Jora : melee heroes are generally bad.

You will find a necromancer hero later in EotN, which will make a nice minion master.
(For precise builds, look at gwpvx.com and switch skills you don't have access to)
Then, grab one healer and two casters henchmen and you're good to go.

For the black widow : you can do it with heroes/hench. Just follow the advice for the quests on the wiki.
I found the "Wrathful Spirits" quest to be quite easy to complete, didn't try the other ones with heroes.

Ok, thanks guys.

Another question:

I tried starting the Knowledgable Asura quest line last night and got smashed up good in a dungeon. Those necromancer packs in the dungeon are just destroying me.

I was going to try to do the Missing Vanguard instead. Is that any easier?

Referring to this listing: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/List_...primary_quests

(I already cleared Northern Allies)

I want to grab another tapestry first to so I can register the Heros I already have. Then I'll add the Black Widow. That'll bump me up to 11/50 right there.

----> http://hom.guildwars2.com/en/#page=d...AAAECAAAAAAAAA

I figure running through one of those tracks would do it, but the Asura one was really hard for my solo+hero/hench setup.

Or can I get another Tapestry even easier doing something else altogether?

Thanks again.

Yeah, the Vanguard line can be pretty easy. The end of Warband of Brothers might give you a little difficulty, just make sure you flag your group back and apart. And Assault on the Stronghold might require a little micro protting.

Or you could just buy your tapestries from other players.

As for the black widow, I suggest waiting until you have a full team of heroes or can go down with other players -- henchmen aren't allowed in the Underworld.

OH! Thanks for the henchman tip.

To register a hero you need to upgrade his armor first. You're going to need either a Deldrimor Armor Remnant or a Cloth of the Brotherhood (preferably the second one because it's easier to obtain) for each hero you want to display.

Yikes. Looks like I got foiled again.

1. Do you mean I need to get each of my heros a full Cloth of the Brotherhood armor SET? Or just a piece or two? (Like is it a full paper-doll set like the one my main character wears [helm, shoulders, chest, leggings, etc...]? Or just a single set type of thing?)

2. What do I need to do to get these armor sets? Is this another one of those collector turn-in sets? Which mobs in which area would I have to farm, if so? Or is something else involved?

3. Can these sets be bought from other players? I only have 3K gold though. Not sure if that'll be enough.

Thanks.

The entire armor set is updated with a single Cloth: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Cloth_of_the_Brotherhood

Yes, but it will cost more than that. I think the price hovers around 10k each? Maybe more like 7k or something? I'm not sure.

Don't worry about that too much just yet, though. Edit: Just by playing the game a little, you'll have more money. Pick everything up, sell it all, do quests and get the rewards, etc. You'll get a little spending money quickly enough.

Oh, I see.

Well, that's a relief!

lol

I thought I'd be farming random drops from certain mobs for a few weeks trying to get all the armor pieces for all the heroes.

Now I just gotta finish the Missing Vanguard series (I'm on the last step) and re-attempt the Knowledgeable Asura one that keeps giving me problems to get another hero or two and then I'll start armor farming for my Heros.

Everything seems to be going ok now. Thanks for the help everyone!

(BTW - Gwen REALLY hates those Charr, huh? lol )

Start in Prophecies. The little girl skipping outside is Gwen. Play the Bonus Mission Pack. To be fair, she is a bit of a psycho, but it's not like she's unjustified, the Charr destroyed everything she loved as a child. The fact that she actually works with them to defeat the Great Destroyer is remarkably tolerant.

You get the Brotherhood cloth from doing Glint's Challenge (it's guaranteed when you finish the mission). However, you need to complete most of the Dwarf line ("Against the Destroyers") of the story to get to the outpost (unless you hitch a ride with a player who is doing "Destruction's Depths").

I've pretty much resolved myself to beating all of the EotN primary quest lines now - I have to do almost all of it to get to Glint's Challenge anyway, to gear up my Heroes. So I may as well reach for the finish line too.

EDIT - Plus I dropped $19 on it - and I'm enjoying the story!

Oh yea, I know!

I played all of Prophecies. I even got Gwen's flute back for her.

I was seriously shocked when the older Gwen introduced herself at the steps of the HoM.
