Is it worth it ?

Well, I wanted to start playing GW again (See my other topic), but every time I play the game I realize more and more that I have A LOT of work to do. It's probably impossible to get 30/50 before the release of GW2 (I Need to go to school, I have a GF, ..).

So I'm thinking; are the items you can get and the titles really worth it you think ? I'm just looking for opinions.

No, like really no? So you are saying: Don't put an efford in HoM?

If it would be fun for you to try to get the points, it's worth it. If it would be a grindy chore, it's not worth it.

Most people in GW2 will have the items, so they won't be exceptionally special. They might give you a slight benefit very early on (similar to the /bonus weapons in GW1) -- usable gear from the start that you don't have to put effort into obtaining -- but there will be other armor, weapons, and goodies that you can get in GW2 by simply playing GW2, without having to do any grind in this game.

If you want to play Guild Wars, play it to enjoy it. You can keep an eye on your HoM so you have some direction if you can't decide how or where to play on a current day, but just let the points come as they will. Unless you like working hard towards a goal, which would be its own brand of fun (but I don't get that vibe from your post).

And lest we forget... GW1 is not going away the minute GW2 is released. You can still work on Hall of Monuments stuff after GW2 is out.

That's true, but I don't think I want to spent much time in GW1 when AWESOME GW2 is out.

Like Star Jewel said, just play normal and what I would suggest is that after normal playing take a look at your title tracks, and see what is highest/most points and work on that one...

That's hot I got max on my dwarf; just kept playing my normal ZB and kept doing sungeons most of the time before I realized it.

I wouldn't bother trying to get 50/50 - just unlock the easy stuff.

6/50 will get you the "Traveler" Title and the Heritage Armor set unlocked for GW2.

I'm personally just going for 8/50 so I can get the Shortbow for my GW2 Ranger.

Oh also, easy points are things you can just buy if you have the money. Like elite armours, and as far as minipets go, there's always someone out there giving away white minis for free(I'm one of them), sometimes undedicated. Just keep your eye on localchat.

I think the "Ghostly Hero" title is pretty worth it

Question; You must have 50 mini pets. Is it allowed to have some doubles?

No, no doubles sadly. 0-30 is doable before GW2 if you play like an hour a day average and don't procrastinate, its more prestige than advantage though when it comes to the rewards. I'm 50/50 personally and that took many many months, but I feel it was worth it simply because I had fun doing it (for the most part).

Getting as far as I can on HOM is more of a closure project for me. It's my own personal way to set things in motion for GW2. If it's not fun, I won't do it. (And so I won't likely get 50/50 ever)

Like Star Jewel said, the items we earn from HOM are not going to be very prestigious (because so many will have them), and they most certainly will not be game changing (by design). So thats why I said they weren't worth working for. Not if you don't already love playing the game for what it is. Otherwise it's just a time-killing chore.

You can of course carry on working on the hom after gw2 arrives though how anyone would have the time is beyond me.

What you gain from the hom is cosmetic only I went for it for the animal companions because those I will use in the game.

The weapons and armour etc may look really good or may appear average wont know till I see them in game and since I will be doing a lot of crafting in gw2 most of the time I will be using stuff I designed myself.

I agree with only doing what you'll have fun doing. I knew going in that I'd stop at 45 because getting the last five points would feel like a grind, and that's where I got (months ago, and I've been stopped there ever since). Just do what you want; HoM benefits are just cosmetic anyway.

The 30 points are definitely not that hard to get, I can understand not wanting to do things that would feel extra grindy but it only feels that from 31 onwards.

The question should be what are those items worth to you? Personally, I love the golem mini pet, gw lore related gear and 1-2 ranger pets such as the white raven.

If theres something you want, you should definitely work towards it regardless of when GW2 comes out---at least then you would be a few points closer. But I say it again--- doesn't take that long to get the first 30 points, you just have to look at the HoM calculator and plan ahead.

Personally, I don't think it's worthwhile ramming your way through GW1 just to get some crappy cosmetic things in GW2. Instead, why not just simply enjoy playing GW1 and do what you find fun?

The way I see it, when GW2 comes out there will be a whole lot of GW1 players showing their GW1 and HoM related titles, mini-pets, etc. They'll be common as dirt and very soon after launch, people will start displaying their new GW2 titles, mini-pets, etc. It seems to me to be a great waste of time (and a small waste of money) to play GW1 just to get these meaningless HoM rewards when you could be actually enjoying GW1 for GW1.
And, let me stress again that there is nothing to be gained from the HoM that you will in any way need in GW2.

Btw, I seem to recall that somewhere along the way, ANet said that there would only be a limited time to add stuff to your HoM after GW2 is released, but that was early on and subject to change.

(Of course, I admit that this is from the point of view of someone who already has GWAMM and 40 something HoM points. )

Can someone please link to what 30/50 means? I don't even have a HOM, and I don't know anything about what it means, what I need to do, how long it will take, or what I'll even get for doing anything. Someone mentioned weapons and armor in this thread, but that's the most I've seen.

Thank you. Didn't mean to derail this thread.

HoM is your Hall of Monuments. It's an in-game "trophy case" (accessible via the Eye of the North outpost in EotN) that tracks your accomplishments. The types and amount of accomplishments you have are worth points, which you can assess at the HoM Calculator. The calculator can tell you which GW2 items your different GW1 accomplishments will earn via the point system. 1-30 points grant GW2 items, whereas 31-50 points (in increments of 5) only grant additional titles. A lot of people only care about the items and see no reason to work extra hard to get to 50 points only for vanity titles. They refer to that as getting "30/50".

Guru has a stickied guide to filling your HoM.

Question:

What is the viability of these unlocks in GW2?

Specifically the weapons and armor sets - Are they capped for a certain level in GW2? Or do they scale up with us as we level through the GW2 questing?

I'm just wondering if this stuff is low-level only, or if it'll be viable all the way to the end-game?

Or if it's purely cosmetic for standing around town purposes?

Oh ok - cool.

So I can keep the "appearance" of my Hertiage Armor and whatever weapon I unlock no matter what items I find in GW2.

Basically just like the "Transmogrificaiton" thing in WoW.

Got it. Thanks.

Yup! And hopefully for free (or close to it).
