Its been a few years since i played guild wars and I thought I'd start playing again. Before I only had prophecies but now i have all 4.
I wanna focus on 4 characters.
What 4 class combinations are strongest in the current meta?
2 for PvE and 2 for PvP.
If there are any class combinations that are good for both. Please feel free to mention.
Help is greatly appreciated .
Best class to earn HoM points? 2PvE+2PvP
Prince Khane
Daddy
2 PvE: Sin for Sc and fun
Rit for farming and questing
2 PvP: Dervs are still popular right?

PvE
Assassin - Dagger spam is extremely effective anywhere in PvE and provides Save Yourselves makes it easy to use for even new players. There are many options available to help new players that gives the profession flexibility.
Ritualist - Spirit spam removes most difficult situations by distracting groups and providing damage. Allows you to use any setup you want for heroes and pugs always want a spirit spammer. It also provides one of the best ways to farm.
PvP
Mesmer - For people who don't play PvP, FA/JQ are common substitutes. Mesmers provide an easy and effective way to farm both areas. Mesmers can spam Empathy and Backfire in RA and get more done than melee for new players (sadly).
Monk - A healer in RA/FA/JQ will carry a team to victory with some practice and skill, it's the most likely to increase the number of wins.

PvE- Anything works. You'll be stuck playing your classes for at least 30 hours, so might as well enjoy them.
I would advise Ritualist and Assassin like the above posts, just take note that the Factions campaign is much more difficult in comparison to it's other counterparts (for beginners).
For a quick comparison, here are the relative classes strengths:
-Ritualist- Steamroll with damage output and tactical capability (being midline) superior to other classes.
-Assassin- Farming and end-game capability far greater than other classes.
-Paragon- Greatest defensive capability, if you want to play it safe.
-Warrior/Dervish- Higher DPS capability than Dagger-spamming Assassins, provided you run the correct builds.
-Elementalist- Respectable DPS, but not very fast paced. Easiest to grasp class.
-Necromancer- The most versatile and potentially easiest to grasp caster class; this is more of a "post 30/50" consideration.
-Monk- Boring if you know how to press the big red gauges on your party interface and the respective button to bring that red gauge back up to max. If healing's your niche, go ahead, just remember the monk's initial DPS options (in the Smiting Prayers line) won't last you in the long run.
-Mesmer- This is actually quite good. (Nothing more to say, I hardly consider my mesmer aside from title grinding).
-Ranger- Don't. Just don't. Ranger can be surpassed in any function it tries to accomplish by any other class. That being said, I'll admit Ranger was my first character... it was very underwhelming, unfortunately.
PvP- The above posts mostly covered casual PvP, but I'll assume you're actually going for a PvP title that isn't the Zaishen rank.
For the most part, you should experiment with what class you can play best. Eventually, you'll have to know ALL of the pvp roles in order to understand how each functions/how to appropriately counter it.
For now, I'd suggest Elementalist, Warrior, or Monk (see below).
I'll give you a brief go-over of the classes.
*most popular class by far*
-Elementalist- O.M.G. Okay, this is the most overplayed class in PvP. I wouldn't be wrong to say at least 75% of players in RA roll Elementalist, because it's one of the easiest to grasp while being the easiest to make [gimmicky] teambuilds for. My opinion ranting aside, this is one of the quickest classes to learn, and probably the most efficient in terms of earning PvP title track points in the short-run (second-easiest to PUG with).
-Monk- While the above posts mentioned, Monk, it's far easier to actually monk if you've played the other classes and understand how they can mess with your mind (especially versus Domination magic Mesmers). But by all means, indulge yourself. You should always note while monking: don't rely solely on you party interface to heal or protect your allies; watch the field of battle (easiest to PUG with).
-Warrior (Dervish)- Consistent DPS and spike capability, thus causing constant pressure to enemy healers. Definitely the most button-mashing fun, in addition to also scoring the most kills.
-Mesmer- If you have the reflexes and a decent internet connection this is for you (when not running NPC-abusing gimmicks).
-Ranger- Same as Mesmer, except when you're running DPS (it's far better to learn how to interrupt your foes though).
-Assassin- Outside of GvG and the occasional HA, hardly used [well].
-Paragon- Okay when you're having fun, trolling, or in seldom few team-builds.
-Necromancer- Learn this. It may or may not look appealing at first, but it can counter most gimmicks in the meta at the moment. I cannot stress enough the importance of this class; most of the time you're basically a giant toolbox that can react to most situations with only the minor drawback of minimal spike capability.
-Ritualist- Practice on Monk before starting this class. In a majority of cases you'll have to do a monk's job with a small bit of DPS/utility thrown in as a bonus.
