Why is this quest so incredibly annoying to complete? Am I missing something? Most of the items he wants can't even be obtained anymore. I've finally managed to get him down to just wanting sweets after much pain and suffering, but now he seems to be bugged out on the sweets. I've given him 3 Rice Bean Cakes and he won't accept Creme Brulee or Pumpkin Cookies (maybe I gave him those when I gave up on this quest months ago).

WTF am I missing?

The sweet he wants for the perfect gift is a Birthday Cupcake. You can also make it work with Pumpkin Pie, Chocolate Bunnies, or the items you've already listed.

You can buy a cupcake from other players or wait until the Guild Wars birthday, which is the end of April.

That's my point. I've tried making it work with the other items, but it's not working.

----------

I broke down and bought a Cupcake from someone and gave it to him. He took the Cupcake, but the quest did not advance and I no longer have any options to give him anything at all. This is the most frustrating quest I've ever encountered in an online game, and I've played most of them.

He will only accept so many "non-perfect" gifts before refusing them, and will accept only one perfect gift per type. I don't recall the particulars off-hand, but both of the wikis have the complete information on what he collects and how many you need.

are you sure you have given him all 4 kinds of items ( sweet, candles, alcohol and food?)
I know he sometimes causes me problems if I still have those items in my inventory (a quick trip to storage to put away all sweets etc usually ends it)....so try not having any of the items he wants and then see if you get the 'now the hard part...'

I may be wrong but i do believe that cupcakes can be got via zcoins.
For the rest of the items unless you`re greedy and want the top items all the other items of that type can be got easily.Wiki should have a section on his items which will say where things can be got from ( can save on buying off players ).

You can only get the brulees.

@OP
Instead of giving him one birthday cupcake, just give him three red bean cakes which you can buy from a merchant.
Instead of hard apple cider, run Kilroy's dungeon three times and give him the dwarven ale. Or just buy three bottles of rice wine from a merchant.
The drake kabobs can be easily farmed, same as truffles, or iboga petals for the pahnai salads. Just remember that you have to provide either one drake kabob or three other items, in any combination of the latter.
The only thing you have to get are three honeycombs to make the votive candles. Those can be easily bought from other players, and obtained from Nicholas (both pre and post searing) or completing EotN quest A Hunter's Pride. Quick and easy.

Now, if you double checked everything and you still can't proceed, something simply got bugged. Either try what Cosyfiep suggested or file a ticket to the support.

None of this stuff worked for me. I gave him at least 3 of multiple alternatives of each item category and I was unable to proceed. I finally broke down and bought the primary item from each category from other players and was able to get through it. This quest was extremely expensive and frustrating. Ah well, life goes on.

You can also get the Honeycombs by exchanging grawl stone necklaces with Galton Franks in Sacnoth Valley.

Grawl are extremely easy to kill and they are all scattered in the area in very small groups. And you can pull small groups from the places where they concentrate in big numbers like around a boss.
