Cool video, but your builds must be annoying for other teammates :P
Meanwhile, i got one more point in HoM and started gathering Amber, probably will have some spare to give to people as well. Maybe also some stuff for Black Moa Chick quest.

The video link that explains the details. Says he'll be checking us out in the HoM and such. Gotta stop liars somehow.
This thread is best here for being able to reply to each other.... but imo, the way it is going down is just like those other free give-away events (like the riddles and such). |

Hoff is just bad. It doesn't matter what build he uses.
Either way, though, I'm all for people making their own builds, bad or not. I think it's a darn shame when people just get builds off of a guide and run them. It's like letting someone else build your MTG deck. :P
Exciting!

This is a great idea! I'm currently 10/50 but just sold lots of stuff and have the money to be 16/50 by the end of the week

Love this. I'm already done with HoM and GWAMM and whatever but I like helping people with theirs so If I come across some HoM items I'd gladly donate them.

The details of exactly HOW people will be selected to recieve prizes is still up in the air. I mentioned that I'll be talking to people 1 on 1, and I will, but the details of WHO that will be (prize winners, just any old person I see, etc) is still up in the air. I should have more to say about that next week, but until then, I think it's sufficient to stat that I won't be giving away anything until the giveaway, and that if people want prizes they should keep their eye on the event.
Exciting! |
I'm curious what the "new" grand prize is, if the old one was Zkeys (of which I would want 125/200). I'm hoping that means Zkeys will be in the plenty.

I did something similar with my winnings from this year and the way I selected people was like this:
I had to set some rules first:
#1 Has to be Necro (you can obviously skip that since you're making it public)
#2 Has to have between 15-25 points in his/her HoM (lower is probably not putting too much effort in it and higher can probs finish the last few points on his/her own)
#3 Must not be in posession of Vabbian or Obsidian armor, Tormented weapons or zaishen title (this can be a rough primer to see if the player has enough cash to support themselves)
#4 General reaction: after checking out people's HoM and finding the one that fit I would send them a pm asking: "Hey there, working hard on your HoM?" and from the general conversation we got from there on I would decide in what way I would donate to this person. (might be difficult for you for going public with it)
Note: these rules were not set in stone but made my pickings more fun and organized.
Anyway I would like to donate 200 Zkeys to your Giving spree (IGN sent by pm)

I like these criteria. Not only because i fit :P. I think it is important that whatever people (and me) give away, it should go to people that can make use of it. 10-15 points is easy to do, and considering amount of time left until GW2 launch, it's more than doable. Over 25, well, if you are there already, you can get this 5 points by yourself no problem.
Makaburi
I happen to have Tormented weapon in my HoM, but it was a gift.
I met a kind soul in game that helped me with War in Kryta, and gave me an Armbrace of Truth (had no idea what it is at that point, thanks for the wiki) and Fire Drake miniature as a bonus.
Other than that I managed to get my HoM up to 16 (nailed to a chair for the last 3 weeks), and I'm starting to doubt I can go much further (especially with GW2 pre-purchase beta events on the horizon, and spring outside the window).
The amount of grind required is killing me (looks like I started a bit too late to make this process painless), I hope this giveaway event, can help and ease that a bit.

I recently got back to GW just to get items into HoM.
So i bought EotN to my account and started hoarding points.
I got to 21/50 points and realised that the things i put effort in getting didn't matter much for points.
I have 10 characters and ive managed to do most sidequests and missions with them. I also got all the prof. specific skills to them in pve. But getting skills unlocked only matters if you got them on 1 character. Why isn't that account based? What's the point on getting all ele skills to a freakin' warrior for example?
Nevertheless it's nice to see that someone is making such a giveaway event.
It sure would be nice to get any prestige weapon, since i currently have no dedicated weapons.
See you on the event.

Curious how you got all those rubies/sapphires questing. I recently went through nightfall for the statue, and got none.
Nice.. 200 Zkeys. Would love those for that title.. 3 points! A pvp title is so hard to get should have been lesser points imo.

You get trade contracts as a quest reward in vabbi. And those you can trade in for rubies&saphires. Also multiply this with my 10 characters and you get more than enough for 1 set of armor.

Sounds grindy. I have a big problem with time management.
The skill collection is a pain. And I mean basic skill collection for a beginner, not even trying for Skill Hunter. 1k and 1 skill point.... I can either use my skill points to make a conset, or try to make a better build to not die.
Add that up a few times to get myself half-way decent skills and heroes, and I just ran around most of the map and wasted a day. Plus I used up money and made none back.
I'm not fond of the mechanics. Nothing feels intuitive, even after learning the basics, and it feels like work--not playing a game.
And good luck trying to do RA or something and not be called a leecher for trying to play. Once I saw the PvP community of GW, I realized they beat the WoW community hands-down in rudeness.
To think they will be in GW2.... I'd rather deal with the WoW children then the GW nerd-ragers.

Yeah.. What I thought when I read it. There is too much grind in some aspects in Guildwars. What I would advise someone trying to make money is just do Jade quarry.. Couple of hours you can get about 6 Zkeys depending on which side the botters are more rampant. You can also make a SoS build, and easily farm ataxes/dhums in Underworld. One aspect I look forward to in gw2 is that there is no holy trinity so the pvp will be more relaxed to a degree. I enjoyed the pvp in guildwars, and did plenty of it. I just never did the end game of it since I could never team up without having a rank 6+ gladiator or sorts.

There is alot of grind in this game if you want titles and play alone half of the time because not everyone in guild wants the same quests the same time.
I also have very high hopes for GW2, but i can't deny theres been quite alot of fun times in GW as well.

After almost 4 weeks of play (all campaigns, War in Kryta, Hearts of the North, Furnance of Sorrows done, Winds of Change in progress, and Fissure of Woe in line for the weekend) I ended with no mini drops, barely enough medals for 2 opressor weapons, and rare crafting materials in total of 2 sapphires, 0 rubies, 0 diamonds, 0 ectos, 0 obsidian shards, 1 jade chunk, and 16 amber chunks (from vanquishing Echovald areas and trading reputation).
Kurzick/Luxon armor is doable with moderate grind, but I don't see myself getting even close to Vabbian or Obsidian armor...
My view of GW1 varies from hour to hour, from fun and engaging through irritation and frustration to total devastation and despair (like when I accidently salvaged my Asuran leggins to utter nothingness BEFORE I managed to dedicate the armor at HoM).

I wouldn't view it as grindy if I was just playing for fun.
When I first started, I just played. I thought I had to do ALL quests, and while time consuming, it was fun (except for deaths). Also, mats and money added up just from casual play.
But once I started aiming at goals, everything became work. I beat EotN and NF with heroes but no elites lol. Little things like that added up.
But luckily, as it usually goes, guild mates set me straight, and still do. And I think I'll follow Ccccc's advice lol, about getting some Zkeys.

Not sure if if you guys know this or not, but there was 2010 update that allowed a one time distribution of 50 tournament reward points which in turn can be used to buy 10 Zkeys from Tolkano. All you need to do is speak to High Priest Zhang in the Great Temple of Balthazar.
I recently became aware of this update myself since I haven't played in years.
Best advice I can give is do JQ.. Get the 30k imperial faction which adds up quickly enough, and trade it in for Balthazar faction and get your two Zkeys. I started my HoM at 5 points, and I'm about to hit 28 points.. My money mostly came from just JQ.

ccccc, thank you. =)
I already knew about the 50 tourny points (good guildmates) but I always blew off JQ. I figured GvG was where it was at. I got 55 Zkeys in 1 day with GvG. But then that guild fell apart (this last Fall) and I haven't found anyone to do GvG since. =(
While JQ was taking 20 min per key (or slightly longer) it is still a nice pace. Seems to be the least grindy. 119 more to go....
I do wonder what Quality Discourse's new Grand Prize is.
I'm liking their channel too. I can see it taking off over the next few months. Their voices are dreamy....

I had picked up the EOTN copy arround the time this topic started, i managed to get myself to 15/30 fairly easy, but now it seems that im just playing EOTN for the fun of it atm... after i finished eotn ill start gearing up the henchies etc, the weapons is fairly impossible for me i think.

Oh em gee! This is an brilliant idea!
I was planning on selling all my stuff & donating it to a couple of friends after I reached the HoM cap (maybe 30/50) myself. Just to help them with their HoM. :P
However, giving tons away to tons of strangers makes everyone involved totes rad in my book (if that counts for anything, lol).
Even if I don't walk away from this event with any prizes, I still highly approve this idea. :3
Spreading the word!
Currently 9/50 on HoM myself, so it'll be awhile, but I'm sure I'll get there eventually. xD

This event alone helped a few of us ingame to band together and share. I mean fully share. I've both been given money and given away money, and it's great because we are collectively gathering what we need for our HoMs--but not selfishly. I still need an Oppressor's weapon, but giving away my war supplies first since I was helped so much with my Tormented weapon (DoA gems given to me by someone who could have used them). It's great to see our small group helping each other when we can still use what we are giving away, and it speeds things up.
The only slow part will be JQ for the Zkeys.
I like this, because we are giving away stuff and we need it. We aren't hoarding it. Those other community events are fine but only benefit those who already have everything and don't need more. They already have money to make silly costumes for contests, or seen the entire game for trivia. They already have thousands of ecto just sitting around.
We have nothing and are proud. We save up to 60k or so to buy armor and then are back to zero. We need to decide to buy skills for a couple K to help our builds, or chance having 60% death penalty while plowing through an area.
This is the best part (albeit a small part) of the community. The unselfish helping. Some who have much say things like "I did it on my own and others should too." Which is like saying "I survived a violent assault alone and you should too." It is just bitter. But they played during a time when the economy was strong and more things could be sold/traded. Normal play provides very little to turn around into something we can work with. When I told my guild of this event, the hoarding elites had words to the effect of "players should earn their HoM" and completely missed the point of community and togetherness.
But that figures, considering they only help themselves .

I will probably hit 25 today too (just 1/1.5 Varajar Fells runs, and I'm good for 2 more Armors).
Possibly 27 till the end of the week (one more Opressor Weapon from Wanted bounties, and Keiran runs, and one Destroyer weapon - after learning how to kill Duncan in Slaver's Exile with heroes I see light in the tunnel, and Diamonds dropping from the chests).
To hit 30 I will only have to buy myself some minis (which shouldn't be so hard if I sell some of the stuff I got while questing, and running through dungeons).
It might happen, I will hit 30 before the event itself, and after that I'm willing to give away stuff/help to anyone who asks.
Right now I have one Primeval and one Deldrimor Armor Remnants to give away if anyone of you guys need to bump up your Fellowship points.
Also Drake Kabob (for Thackeray's scavenger hunt, or Feast of Bokka quest), Crème Brûlée, Chunk of Drake Flesh, 2 Truffles (Thackeray's scavenger hunt), 2 Stone Grawl Necklaces (8 required for Honeycomb for Black Moa Chick), 1 Skree Wing (you need 5 for nesting materials for Black Moa Chick).
Just PM me, and I send you my IGN.

With the GW2 beta next weekend, this weekend is the last one of April.... I wonder if the event kinda fell apart....
Well, at least it was motivating to get my HoM in order. I only need 99 more Zkeys and done. Plus the help I promised to a few others, but at least my mind will be relaxed that my account is ready.
I just wish there were better guilds. I mean, the friendly ones are great, but don't really do anything. And the ones that run stuff reliably are elitist. With such a dying population, beggars can't be choosers. Oh casual guild that ran GvG, how I miss you.

Yeah, Anet's decision, messed up some of my plans too, including the giveaway event, which I will probably not attend to
But the GW2 events are just one weekend per month, and I still need few minis to hit 30 HoM, so I will stick to the GW1 until "when it's ready" becomes "it is ready".
Since getting minis is just a matter of time, and hoarding enough money (or finding good people willing to give, or exchange - there ARE such people!) I'm giving away anything I have at the moment (that is not money, I temporarily need the plats to buy myself some minis, after that I'm giving the money too), just PM me here on the forums, and if I have or can get you something that you are looking for, I'll let you know.

yeah, I asked about the giveaway during the BWE on their last video, never got a response though. I hope to see it go off, I only need 5 more points to hit my 23 goal. Main thing holding me back though is mastering stupid Eternal Grove, can't for the life of me get it finished.

I got to 19/30 and i really have little motivation to continue. I did everything that had to do with game plot and events, what is left is pure grinding. After gathering around 85 zkeys i can barely look at Jade Quarry. :/
Still, i got 2 unded minis that i don't need (but i could use other ones, since these are duplicates ), and other stuff i could live without. So hopefully, this event will still happen. I need to get to 22/30 i think and then i don't care that much.
