What is the "best" prof?

I know this proly gets asked alot but new to GW and need to know. I only plan on leveling one char so I want it to be very good. I hate dieing and love putting the hurt on people. Ps I love cool armor. Also include a build or two if possible.

The "best" profession is the one you enjoy playing most. There are pros and cons to each, but even some of those are a matter of opinion. As far as different builds go, there's anothe section of these forums that covers builds and profession discussions.

You will get a different answer from every person you ask--there is no "best".
play around, you can always delete your character and start again (or make others and just use the first attempts as mules to hold stuff).

Sticking to 1 chr only - to enjoy gw you need to explore other professions , each profession has its drawback.Eg Fire nuke eles in normal mode are powerfull - but in hm their power is lessened.Also diff zones can have foes with anti xxxx builds - eg mesmers could cast on warrior andrenaline denial skills and if your warrior chr uses andrenaline they they will had a hard time of it.
Some players will make several chrs and spend a while exploring the professions just enough so they can get a feel if its for them or not.

Even if you'll get a lot of answers here, you'll never be able to decide by this. There's really no better profession. The one you'll do better with is probably the one you enjoy the most as you'll use better something you're having fun with instead of just smashing random bottoms while you think "boring" na dlose focus on the battle.
If you really don't wanna try them all, maybe we could help you if you specify what kind of role in the party you like the most. Do you like melees? You prefer staying at range instead? What do you like better, physicals or casters? You like dishing direct damage or you prefer counteractive skills (eg. hexes) so that foes hurt themselves (mesmers and curse necros mainly)? Or summoning stuff so that they can do the damage instead (ritualist and necro)?As you said you "love putting the hurt on people" I assume you wouldn't like anything that has to do with support.

I never said get it to level 20--you should be able to decide well before that if you like the class---if you HATE hack and slash and you make a warrior, it wont take long to find out, gee, this is exactly what I dont want to do.
You will get a different answer from everyone who replies--some people like to heal, others like to play hack and slash, others like to ....etc.
what we like is not what you will like, really. Try them out for yourself, we really cant answer this for you (I like chocolate ice cream, my husband likes strawberry--because one of us likes those flavors you will pick one of them to like?????)

If only playing 1 toon I would recommend a class that can play lots of different and useful builds. Go with a Ritualist or an Elementalist. A ritualist can be spirit spammer, spirit protector, channeling/DwG spiker, splinter barrage and healer and all of those will get you through general PvE.

You will get to 20 in merely hours. If you're planning on only ever having 1 character, you will be at a bit of a disadvantage; most people have some pvp chars, some farming chars, certain professions for speed clears and uw farming, etc etc.

We can rule out monks, rangers and paragons. That's a start.
But I cannot think of one profession next to these which is "the best".
Assassins can dish out plenty of damage and with shadow form can farm and tank pretty well but the hurt factor comes from other players then.
Mesmer is probably the one for you but hey why not try a few yourself.

To answer your question: There is no "best" proffesion. It's strongly individual decision and it's only up to you to find the one suits you. GW isn't about grind and max lvl is a tutorial bit. You can make more toons and see which one you like the best.

I suggest you check the wikis and read up on the various classes and take a look at the available 'cool' armors. (Most of them are ugly imho)

I'd probably say Elementalist too. They do high damage in NM & PvP, and reasonably well at damage in HM. A midline position and Earth or Water Magic can make them a difficult character to kill. You'll have to skip on the cool armour though, unless you're an adolescent , play a female Elementalist, and think lots of cleavage = cool.
I would otherwise suggest a Warrior, who'd fit all your criteria, except that, despite the high AL, you'd be a frontliner and so should expect to die sometimes, especially if just starting out.
A Ritualist might fit your criteria a little too, similiar to the Elementalist, except that they don't normally do quite as much damage and aren't quite so capable of protecting themselves as an Elementalist due to their supportive nature and the fact many of their spells can be used to protect other allies aswell as oneself, unlike the Elementalist's spells which are often selfish in application and only work on oneself. And you don't seem like the type that's particularly supportive.

I would definitely suggest trying a few of them and seeing what appeals to you, or better yet, look up some of the skill for each profession and see what exactly you would end up doing as that profession.
There is no "best" profession. Guild Wars is, as the name implies, a game built for teams. The skills are balanced so that you need a team to fulfill the roles in the party that you don't. Every profession and skill can be countered by a different profession or skill. It all comes down to which you like best.

If you lack patience (which sounds to be the case based on your responses) i would avoid mesmers, rangers, paragons, monks and tbh even assassins...all of whom need some time to learn how to really play effectively (ie. Im mashin buttons but how come i cant interrupt shit!!!).
Dervishes probably arent for you either as youll need to worry about builds and learning/using various skill chains. Necromancers might seem like an option but realize minion mastering (which im guessing is what most novices gravitate towards) require managing your minions and can get tedious.
Stick to a warrior or elementalist. They are very straight forward. Or you can basically get your hands on a SOS build and just go with a ritualist for your entire single character to level 20 goal. Being a factions based character you can usually get to 20 quickly.

All professions are balanced. They differ in play styles:
Warrior - melee with heavy armor that hits like a truck, with lots of survival skills against physical damage. Cons: chasing kiting monsters can be tedious, poor visual presentation of skills in use. I also don't like their armor
Ranger - you play with a bow, a pet and lot's of surviving skills, midliner, has good defense against elemental damage. Cons: none, IMO. Their armor is has a leather feel.
Monk - you mostly heal party members, have the most diverse set of skills to prevent targets from dying. Cons: limited offense. No real opinion on their armor.
Necromancer - hexer, curser, debuffer, undead minion master. Cons: none. Emo inspired armor.
Mesmer - trickster, punishes and counters anything and everything, but only good at one thing at a time, can punish any action or inaction, and make your life miserable; in PvE an offensive support class to prevent monsters from killing your party. Cons: no satisfying direct damage like other classes, possibly steep learning curve. Have best armor aesthetically.
Elementalist - classic mage that casts fire balls, lightning, defensive earth magic, and snaring water magic. Cons: none. No opinion on armor.
Assassin - melee glass canon with many avoidance skills to deliver damage quickly and hard. Cons: can't take the beating, so you need to retreat from front lines once combo is complete. Ninja inspired armor.
Ritualist - spirit wrangler, lightning caster with healing capabilities. Cons: none. Armor reinforces your blindness and tattoos.
Dervish - closest thing that comes to a classic paladin warrior, melee with a scythe in your hand instead of hammer, limited shape-shifting. Cons: enhancement management can become a bit tedious, although they are builds that forgo this dervish mechanic. Armor sets consists of you wearing robes even if male.
Paragon - mid liner who is mainly a offense/defense support (famous imbagons), with an array of spear throwing damaging skills, wear heavy armor, physical damage mitigaters second only to warriors. Cons: shouting management and sound effects may get on your nerves. Armor is inspired by wearing skirts.

ritualist currently is probably the best prof for pve, pvp not so much

eles are ok for pve and pvp - armor is bad for male eles tho

I love my ranger. I don't really care what others think, it is my main and my most successful.
I hate casters.. so three of the most powerful characters I have sit, unused, except for merc templates.

This is an unanswerable question - everyone plays differently and has different opinions and views on each class. No one class is "best", each class has strong and weak points to it, and everyone will tell you something different based on their opinion. As this is a question asking for "opinion's" and isn't really a question that can be answered with anything other than conjecture and opinion..
