Unable to do Gwen's flute quest?

Hey guys,

I only started to play the game 2-3 days ago. and I followed the wiki to do all quest pre-searching beside this one. Somehow she didnt have a quest marker above her head so I searched a bit on the forums here and I found out this prolly is because I partied with someone who has finished the quest already?

There is no way for me to ever finish this quest or do any of her follow up quests now? I would have liked to do all quests but I don't want to restart a new char.

If I can't do this quest at all without restarting, which ill assume for now are there other points in the game where you are punished for grouping with other ppl and where they lock you out of doing certain quests/activities?

As far as I know, that's the only one.

afaik there is no quest marker on that quest because you have to search that broken flute.

but it is not hard:
* just follow the road a bit till you see some skales in that small river (the part where it bents).
* cross that river there and check the grass behind it.

yea I can't even take the quest through and from reading the wiki and searching this forum the quest seems bugged now. I checked following your instructions though but didn't find anything. Gonna just skip it and continue the game.

Ok, that quest just gives 250xp (which ofc can be a "lot" if you are chasing the LDOA title).

But you didnt accidently bought her a flute, did you? Because she only gives you the quest when she doesnt have a flute (see requirements).

It's easy to see. If you partied with someone who have done the quest, she will now most likely hold a flute and wear a red cape, even though she didn't give it to her. And there's no way to do that quest for yourself.

It's the pre-searing one that ends in the tattered cape that you can bring to post?

If so, contact me in-game on Alay State (or any of my other characters) and I'll give you a tattered cape so you can get the quest from her in Eye of the North when you eventually get to that stage :]

Even if you partied with someone who's never done the quest, she'll be bugged. I tested this on my two accounts: made new characters, walked outside as a party, and she already had her cape and flute. Weird.. But again, 250xp is nothing. This is coming from someone who's achieved LDoA 5+ times. Even with the vanguard quest, from 19 to 20 the foes will give you 32xp each. That's 8 foes you need to kill to earn that amount of XP..

Sometimes I am unable to get her quest, even when I hadn't grouped with someone else. Still I bought the flute from the merchant and gave it to her, then a flower, then the cape. I always did get a shred from her. Give it a try. Make sure, if you have more than one flower, to drop all the extras to give her the cape and to receive your shred.

like being said, it is a very buggy quest wich lots of problems. imo best thing to do is to forget it, if you want to do the questline attached to it in post make a new character. try to obtain the item, if unssuccesfull try again, if succesfull take that character to post and put the item in your chest.

Not doing the broken flute quest shouldn't have any ramifications. Giving her a FUNCTIONAL flute is what's important.

I once helped a lvl19 char with getting this quest by making a new pre-char, and getting the quest BEFORE teaming up with that lvl19 char (or anyone else).

One the weirdest things in this game, a contagious "virus like" bug that messes up this quest.

Yea I skipped the quest for now, I will check it out on a new char. I'm currently trying to do all the quests I can do in these campaigns and after that I hope I know enough about the game to start working on the hall of monuments
