GW1 related: GW2 account and ingame password
Tom Swift
Just in case people don't know (I didn't and it scared me for a couple of seconds)
When you register your pre-purchase GW2 code if you use the same email as the log-in email for your game account then changing the password on the GW2 account also changes your log-in password for GW.
Thought someone had hacked my account for a second
(and, no, it does not automatically create a NCSoft master account)

Is this only for purchases made on the guild wars website? I just bought the CE from Gamestop and I've got nothing on my confirmation email

But even when you get it from other sources, you still have to register a GW 2 account and it is at that point that your GW password would change.
I am also not sure what would happen if you used a different email than is on your GW game account - would there be a way to link them and get the HOM rewards later? Might be a good thing to ask ANet before setting up GW2 account.

Awwww man, good call... Gotta figure out how to convert that to a pre-purchase then...
EDIT: Just canceled my collector's edition and went with the guildwars2 site pre-purchase. Don't want to deal with the hassle of shipping (moving soon)

Mine definitely says pre-purchase on the retailers website (it's not gamestop)
Haven't gotten anything whatsoever yet, no codes, no download, no anything... but they say they have send it now... thought it would take time before they'd send it...

In time you will receive a short confirmation e-mail, telling you that you will receive information about upcoming beta's and the download location of the game client in (a) future e-mail(s).

Each time I progressed through my account setup, the language of the website swiched among German, French and English...
Hope I did everything right, at some point you're asked for information on your current GW account. That part is rather obscure, expecially if you can't read French that much...

Enter your original Guild Wars account e-mail. If you have no longer access to it, enter your current e-mail address so we can send you the link to download the game. |

could try changing the contact email adress on the ncsoft master account, so you do get a conformation about registering gw2 to that account, the old email account name is just a name then.

The email address you use to sign on guildwars is a login name. Just enter the email address and password you use to log into guildwars. You will get the chance to have the key sent to a new email.

Unless I'm mistaken, you're asked for login credentials, then you can pick an email address for the GW2 account:

i think they need to clarify the e-mail issue, lots of people have changed theirs.
i havent had a problem with mine, but it has remained the same since the WPE.

So annoying. Wonder why they didn't just do everything through our NCSoft master accounts and the NCSoft store? You know, to keep it simple and convenient for everyone involved...
Lonesamurai
well that would have made sense after forcing us to link to the bloody master account int he first place huh?

I suspect it's because the NCSoft master account is famous for being the source of numerous GW account hacks a few years ago. Additionally there are some players that have multiple GW accounts linked to just one NCMA, so which GW account would the GW2 account be linked to? Personally, I'm glad that ANet have steered clear of the NCMA.

Agreed. I have my main account and my mule account both under my NCMA. I'd have been really PO'd if my GW2 account had been linked to my mule account when all of my HoM accomplishments are on my main.
I found the registration setup pretty straightforward - my only "complaint" was the way the text turned red and more noticeable when you typed in the name for the beta/forums (where you create a name to go with the four digit .xxxx thing). That type of action on a website usually indicates "you've filled out this field wrong and you have to fix something." It is NOT generally indicative of "sure, that's as good a name as any...go ahead and submit it." LOL

As for linking, obviously you'd choose an account to link just like you do when you add an expansion or buy something from the NCSoft Store - buy it and it shows you a list of accounts you could link.
Ah, well, it doesn't really matter to me now - until ArenaNet/NCSoft get rid of the consumer-unfriendly region locking (which seems to exist purely to make sure those paying in Euros (and, to a lesser extent, British Pounds) pay more than the exchange rate and a 15-20% VAT can account for), they get to join EA, Activision, Sony, and UbiSoft in my own personal boycott...

I didn't have any problem with it at all. Went to Gamestop after work paid for the CE and got my receipt with the code.
I put in the code then my GW account and got an email they would be sending a link for the client
Tomorrow would be good lol
*Are you boycotting Sony for the Prosieben/Alaplay fiasco? *

I had to use one of my email accounts with " @ncsoft" to register. (That could be different for others, depends on how you created the account maybe)
Then tied it to to my correspondence email account
Created a name for the new account in GW2
Received confirmation email.

I linked it to my @ncsoft Guild Wars account too. It sent confirmation emails to my actual email address, but sends the forum validate email to [email protected]
Kind of an issue, with that not being a real email and all.

I created a GW2 account! Then I created a NCsoft master account! then I bought GW1! Now I'm unable to create a GW1 account, because when I go to create account and it asks me to inserta an e-mail and a password it keeps saying that the password is incorrect! What should I do?
