GW versus WoW - Part 2

Okay, in a previous thread I stated that World of Warcraft was much better than Guild Wars. Well, now that I've played GW, I was wrong. I love GW. It's awesome. The storyline is beautifully written. Every quest seems to tie directly into the main story. The environments are incredible. I love the henchmen. There is NO lag in this game. The creatures hold their state even when you die and rez again. This game is just awesome. I love WoW too but for different reasons. GW seems to be more of a serious game and I love that. It's more strategic than WoW. Instead of being a tank-and-loot game, it's a game with a real storyline and the purpose of the game is to be good enough to hold your own in the pvp aspects of the game. I just love it. I think this game is awesome. So, for those who read my previous thread that debated (a little strongly at times) whether or not GW could stand up to WoW, well it does and it does well.

Its funny how people can form opinions before they've even played both games. I agree i quit my WoW account for GW.

yeah I agree, after having a 60 shaman in WoW and fighting the same mobs over and over in different colors, it got old... and the PVE in this game is the BEST i've seen by far. I loved the scenery and going through all of the missions was actually fun and challenging, not a chore. Unlike WoW, the new area's are actually DIFFERENT instead of the same lvl 1 cave layout with the same mobs only higher lvl. The only thing I liked about WoW is how you could jump around and cast instants in pvp without having to pause ever. whereas in this game you have to stop to do something, and it pauses when you stop and move... plus you cant jump to get around those pesky corners that block you while your trying to walk around them.

Edit: and when you explore in GW you actually find something, instead of exploring in WoW only to find... more mountains

I thought I'd continue playing WoW after buying GW, that GW would be the game I played when I wanted something more immediate.

However receiving Guild Wars on pre-release day I've only returned to WoW once and found the combat and pace mind numbingly uninvolved. I still like WoW but for the present time I can't see myself being prepared to devote much time to it when here I get my own personal involved world when I want it and play with friends when they are around.

Thing thing I do miss from WoW is the freedom of movement

It may be a hard pill to swallow for many of the other companies out there but I have cancelled all my Mmorg accounts and am firmly in the GW camp.
There is something very fresh about the way GW's does things and I sure hope it shakes the online business up a bit as the level has now been raised.

Most companies like to do the: If it works well in another game, we will use that in our game, Approach. I now look forward to the next generation of games that learn from what Guild Wars has done so well here and mix it with the best from exsisting Mmorgs.

All so true, originally i was planning to have GW as a side game from WoW but since iv got it, iv only been on WoW once to check if anyone else in my previous guild was on GW too LoL. What i miss the most about WoW is the mailbox system and AH, how i would love to see something similar to that in Guild Wars.

That would put an end to most of the spamming in cities for trades and also set up a market pricing system for people. Mailbox works wonders too, not having to wait for people to be online to send them something.

I agree. I think if you have the mailbox system and AH in GW then that would pretty much shut down WoW because GW would have pretty much everything that WoW has and more. If not AH then definitely a mailbox system.

Me too. 3 accounts have been cancelled from other games (SB, Matrix and WoW). WAY too much fun here at GW and not enough time for it all

The only question is... what am I going to do with that saved $43 a month?

Decisions, decisions. Heh.

They used to have a similar system in beta. I am sure it will be back with a lot more goodies attached at some point.
The fact that they started the game with a shared item account storage for all your characters means that they know what makes players happy and arn't afraid to go there

It looks like most of you are in the same boat I am.

I had kept my WoW account, expecting to play both of them. Having played in all of the Beta's for GW I believed that the game would really only occupy a portion of my time, and I wouldn't want to play it constantly. So, while I was extremely excited for the game to come, I did not anticipate that it would be played this much.

Now that it's here in retail I find that even looking at the WoW icon on my desktop hurts. I tried playing again and quickly became bored to tears with "the grind."

GW definitely has more play value than WoW did. I'm sick of spending 40 hours on a character in WoW and realizing that I haven't accomplished anything. Some Jr. High school kid has more time to play than I do and is therefore always better. It's about time I got rewarded for strategizing the way my character is built and using it effectively.

I will still play WoW and Guild Wars. Guild wars has many many things missing that WoW still has. Diversity, socialization, moldable GUI, etc.

Given time though GW may have all that, ill still play GW and a mmorpg though, wether it be WoW or some other game. Works fine for me.

AH? Isn't that undermining one of the traits people like about GW, the diminished importance on "loot" and money?

Anyhow, I guess I'm in a similar boat. I played WoW for 4 months, got my first character to 60, and immediately got bored. I started a second character thinking, convincing myself that it would be totally worth playing it all over again with a new class but really.. and now with their new PvP system the game has become nothing but either (A) mindless farming for loot/levels or (B) mindless PvP farming for honor points so you can get "Knight" in front of your name. Very not worth the trouble. Ah well.

I had a rocky start with GW because it's not an MMORPG and I thought it was. Once I got over some of the misconceptions, I find it's a fun game. The concept of strategy and tactics over levels and equipment is really appealing, and makes sense. At the very least, it's more realistic (you don't gain levels in real life, you just find a niche and get great at it). I <3 GW 4ever

Anyone out there looking forward to Hero's Journey?
