ArenaNet / NCSoft managed to kill my excitement for Guild Wars 2.

So somehow, my account got hacked into. They kept changing the password and it said someone from OH, US was logging into my account. SO I contacted NCSoft support. Luckily my NCSoft Master Account still worked, so you know, I could log into it and change my GW1 password, which is also my GW2 password.

So they send me, twice, the information about if any of the issues are beta related. Twice. Finally get in contact with them, explain the situation...
Quote:
NCsoft master account summapumma has been permanently blocked.

Their next one explains about how the account is compromised and they're just basically going shut it off for good.

So..

All my NCSoft Games...GW1...even my pre-purchase of GW2, all my other games and stuff I bought...gone.

And all their support Team says is "Sorry"

I've no idea how this person kept getting into my GW1 account as I have NOD32, spybot S&D and regularly clean and whatnot and I've not had any other account stolen.

So I just paid 59.99$ for Guild Wars 2...and it's gone. That's 60$, throw down a drain, a day before the beta.

My GW1 account with all expansions, some costumes, and mission packs. That I played for thousands of hours.

After the last time and how they helped me it was great. I even changed my password to someone really long and random and wrote it down, confirmed it worked. SO it's not an easy to bust password, it was 12+ characters long.

Some of it is my fault for my account getting hacked into somehow, I imagine a Keylogger, but I can't see what or where as no program I have or have tried detects anything. Also none of my other accounts have been stolen, like GoG, or Origin, ect, only GW. Only real solution is to format and that's a pain.

So yeah...and it's not like I'm getting a refund...that key is used...and the account now perma locked.

Good one NCSoft, a month ago you had me convinced you were a company that supported it's playerbase. Now you just lock them out if it's to much trouble.

Did you post in this support forum here? https://forum.guildwars.com/forum/forums/accounts

The Anet Devs might be able to help.

Fun bit about that; you need a Guild Wars account to post there.

Kinda...hard, considering my issue.

You need to keep emailing them. I find it hard to believe that they will just close the account with no way to recover it. Try the live chat that they have for their support system.

Ok...try that.

Your waiting time is...2 hours, 43 minutes.

Yikes.

Live Chat support hours end...in two hours.

Can't believe the beta is tomorrow and this shit has to happen.

Freaking asshole hackers man, you know? Been playing since release, never had any of my accounts stolen for any game...any service. Nothing.

Then this keeps happening, some ass from OK, US or something. IT showed me his IP, I wish I could use it to find his email or something, he's being a total ass.

I am guessing there is more to this as you said OH, US first then later you say OK, US. The repeat breaches highly suggest you have a keylogger or compromised email. It seems you aren't very tech savvy so rather than go through tons of effort just do a clean windows install.

I do however agree that ncsoft support is utter crap the first several emails will be automated and 50% of the time not even about your problem. Then add in first preorder beta weekend and you got support being slammed thus making them even crappier.

Nah, it's like OK,US, I just messed up the H and K and whatnot.

Still can't believe this shit, they're trying to say the other user is the legit owner of the account despite the fact I have CD Keys and purchase records and the CC# used to purchase it.

*******

Now I appear to be getting emails from the supposed owner and he's talking about taking back what is his...I'm disgusted.

Don't mean to to go too offtopic, but I tried changing my password for GW2 to a really strong virtually uncrackable 20+ digit password. It worked fine for my GW2 account and I could log in to the website, great.

It didn't work in GW1 because it was too long. So I email support telling them 'my GW2 password won't work with GW1, but works on the GW2 website'.

Two replies later:

'We are sorry you are having problems logging into GW2, I have reset your password and your account should now be able to access the beta'.

Which wasn't what I asked for at all. So now I have to go back to using a shorter password that isn't secure enough for me anymore, and people wonder why GW accounts are so easilly hacked into.

Whatever that guy emails you send a copy of what he says to support. tell them you can prove the account is yours because you can provide cd keys and whatever else is needed to show that account is yours.

Damn that's harsh! Well ofcourse my advice would also be to just keep sending them e-mails and messages through all the methods you can use. Best of luck for what it's worth! Hope you can still get your account back and in time before the beta weekend is over...

NCSoft's security has always been a f'ing joke. So many users had their accounts hacked into because of that master account is too easy to get into. Many people didn't even need to download a trojan for it to be compromised.

Tried to live chat with them.

Waited 2 hours.

then

"Status: Canceled
There are no agents available to chat with you right now. Please try again later. "

I don't think I'm going to be playing this beta weekend.

Or Guild Wars 2 if this isn't fixed, honestly.

Super stoked about GW2 and honestly, first time in a long time , a MMORPG had me excited.

But they managed to kill it with showing they can't protect someones account.

I don't know that you've tried everything... I have been hacked once and support was more than helpful. I had barely any info, couldn't get into my master account, etc.

Just, um, try harder? Moan more and complain on the gw support forum. good luck. ~T

The only time they would close an account like this, is so they can investigate further and make sure that the account is placed in the right hands. And I would suggest a fresh Windows install if you do have a keylogger.

If you read the information I posted, you cannot have seperate GW1 and GW2 passwords if your accounts are linked.

Changing my GW2 password also changed my GW1 password automatically. Because it was too long, I could no longer log into GW1 with either my old or new password.

If you have a linked GW1 and GW2 account, try it yourself. Change your GW2 password to something longer than 20 digits, then try and log into GW1. You won't be able to. Change your GW2 password to something that is 13 digits or less, and it will also change your GW1 password to the same thing and work.

Linked accounts cannot have different login details or long secure passwords.

I know I should have different login details for both games. I also know I should have long secure passwords with upper and lower case letters, numbers and sum old, plenty of random digits. I am not allowed to set different login details for each game, or my long secure password because it won't work with GW1.

If my account ever does get hacked after remaining safe for over 7 years, I won't be happy and it won't be my fault because I cannot increase my security. This is a completely unacceptable joke to me, having linked account for HoM rewards and being unable to have seperate passwords / usernames.

Yeap, as said above, there is no way around this. Have to have same password.

Posting this everywhere and flooding NCSoft so they can't ignore it.

This is the same NCsoft that during the spate of hacking incidents last year (or was it 2 years ago?) which affected both GW and Aion, had one of their top-level staff explicitly blame it on the fault of players and not at all acknowledge the critical flaws in the NCSMA system which were pointed out multiple times on both GW and Aion forums.

Yeap. I got lucky a month ago, but this time around, I think I'm screwed.

This new user is claiming it's his account and opened a support ticket as well, claiming I stole it. It appears, somehow, NCSoft took this as true, because he has the same name. That was enough

My credit card info, my CD Keys and my friends list and all that...none of them matter.

Now most likely everything will be deleted or the account perma locked and I'll lose access to everything I purchased and my GW2 Pre-Purchase.

Seriously. I know they're busy with the whole GW2 Beta thing, but their support is really dropping the ball.

They already got my 59.99$, so...if I'm not getting my account back, I'm not buying another copy.

Seriously hate to miss out on GW2, but hey...not dealing with that bullshit.

This - http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/b...tml?t=10200720 - might be the reason someone else has your key. You bought your Factions key from a disreputable gold seller. To your eye, they "looked legit." They're not - and they've never BEEN "legit."

Two things about buying from companies like this -
1) People who make purchases from companies like this are actually demonstrating a scary level of ignorance about online security. In other words - if you'd buy from them and tell yourself they look legitimate, then you are the kind of person who can probably be easily conned by other websites or phishers as well. I am NOT saying this to try and insult you - I am hoping it will allow you to see that you have demonstrated questionable judgment about what is/is not "legit" online in the hopes it will keep you from making similar mistakes in the future so this does not happen to you AGAIN.

2) Companies like this are out to make money. They will do this by any shady means possible - including reselling keys, selling any personal/billing information they have on you, targeting you for scams, etc.

It's an almost inevitable chain of progression from making purchases from companies like this to having your account compromised. It is never a question of IF you'll be hacked... it's a question of WHEN.

Stop dealing with NCSoft email support - call them tomorrow morning instead. Deal with a live person over the phone rather than going back and forth via email. (512) 225-6359 between 12pm-5pm Central time. Tell them that you feel that you and their reps are having difficulty communicating via email. Tell them you don't feel as if their reps are actually understanding what you are trying to tell them, and you feel verbal communication is necessary to convey accurate information. You DO NEED to tell them this in order to get them to look into this over the phone - because generally, they will NOT address hacked accounts over the phone.

Except the fact that I did, in the end, buy the CD Key from NCSoft. That's not really relevant. I ended up buying directly from NCSoft and my account purchases reflect that.

So Mystery not solved. Trying to look for an easy out you people are.

They Probably got in cuz you used the same pw. Many believe that security leak is ncsoft. Many got hacked after linking their account to the master account. Be really cool of them to announce that there was someone doing that and they fired them. Won't happen cuz they are not looking.

I didnt set mines up that way, but that seems to be the problem. Why not allow multiple pws? It's like they set people up to be hacked.

A few people who linked accounts early in got hacked. Some gamers put 2 and 2 together, but NCsoft never publicly commented on it. With gold sellers making real money, it's probably not hard to get account info from someone who works there. People continued to link their accounts and lose them.

I forfeit the extra storage cuz I decided my account security was more important than the extra storage tab. They asked for my keys to proove ownership and I decided against it. Later they let me set it up without the keys. But its not the same pw. I think they decided it was more important that I was set up for gw2.

Your own words, from the post Gizzy linked.

"I bought from them, took em 3 hours, got key in Email, worked out fine, 10$ cheaper, can't beat that. Sorry if I'm supporting the Gold selling site, but it's PlayNC's fault for not supporting PayPal :P Legit site."

Gold Selling sites are not Legit.. and now you know why. You made a poor consumer choice, and now are blasting Anet to fix a problem you created.

(perhaps this post will be removed as well.)

If you actually bought one of your games from an "unofficial source" which you seems to have done according to that thread, it is your own damn fault.

Don't go giving shit to NCSoft/ArenaNet because you are can't be fussed to buy the game directly from a real source.
