Need some help getting up to speed on HoM points.

First off I would say you need to find an active PvE guild, then as of the matter for the HoM all you need is 30 points to get all unlockable items for GW2, if maxing out your HoM to 50/50 is your goal then yes it will take time. Everything is easily doable by yourself and I have been in the situation that you are. I've been playing since 2005, and has quit and gave away my accounts to friends or family. I got on my 3rd account december of 2009, played for a year or two, had to go off a year for deployment and now back and is at 47/50. 30/50 was not that hard for me to get, you just have to invest time and just push on one step at a time everyday.

I totally agree with Newbreed. Since the pure goal of filling the hall isn't setting you on fire, I think playing with people will make it a little less egregious for you.
While you're looking for a guild though, the obvious first step is to pick a character you like and start working through the missions and bonuses of the campaigns. In addition to giving you some Honor statues, it'll put you on track for being in the right places to get your elite armors, etc.
Good luck!

I think what finally got me to actually finish off my first GWAMM (which is a giant step towards 50/50 if that's where you're headed) was simply setting goals and a daily routine. If you give yourself 2-3 hours of time a day and spend it wisely you'll be done pretty quickly. The most mind-numbing part for me was probably vanquishing... so I set out to do 2-3 a day. I got through it all pretty fast, and just getting through those gets you a lot if you do it smartly (i.e. do cartographer at the same time, etc.) Bottom line, set goals and follow through.

I'm in a very similar predicament! I'm personally working on the points that take skill and time first, namely Protector, Guardian and get the Hero armor upgrades. Then I'll focus on the points that take a lot of money. Feel free to whisper me if you want to group up for a Mission! IGN: Thia Moonblade
