Noob move of the day

Funny thing... I identified a piece of Losaru bladehand armor and it had a minor rune of vigor. That might not be a big deal to most of you but, with only about 5k to my name, I was pretty stoked.
In the excitement I decided to salvage it immediately to recover the rune. When I did, I had 12 bolts of cloth...
I clicked on the common salvage kit instead of the expert. So instead of four to five hero skills (which is what I would have converted the rune into after selling it) I have about 5% of one of the material components for my next set of armor. Gah!
Well... at least I can chuckle over it. Thought I'd share in case any of you out there could use a laugh, too. ; )

Eeek, you're still using COMMON salvage kits?
Also, never assume you know the exact number of times to click "Sell".
You will blaze through it.
You will click it WAAAY too many times, and end up getting rid of something you reeeally wanted to keep.

I think common salvage kits are great. I kind of rediscovered them this year realizing that I sure as heck didn't need any more steel or a lot of other miscellaneous rare materials that are only ever needed for specific armor sets.
esthetic
I have sold more than a few collection items (plus 200e value) items to the Merchant. Yay! for playing nonstop for more than 8 hours on five hours sleep.
Raven Wing
Put a candy or minipet or something other unsellable as a stopper in front of items you really do not want to sell to merch, that prevents unwanted sales
trickfred
Put a minipet or a quest item in your inventory, then put anything you want to keep 'below' it, and this will never happen again.

common salvage kits are good when you want common materials (like cloth, hides, iron, granite....)....I use these when I kill the rock eles in ascalon.

I came back to GW once after a couple of years and decided I didn't like the nick on my Ele anymore. So I salvaged it's armor and found 67 ectos in my inventory and started to wonder where those came from.

ehmm yea, put a non-sellable item in front of everything you wanna keep in your bags
and i disable everything but the backpack at merchs, i keep stuff i like to keep more, into my normal bags (or charr bags) and belt pouch and so always disable them... better way to avoid selling stuff i wanna keep
i had the other way around in salvaging once, i expert salvaged necro's pre sear collector armor, and got steel.... just saying

I still don't know if they are worth anything, but as a newbie (like, literally 2 days into the game), I was working my first character through factions. I left Ran Musu Gardens and was confronted with this big purple-glowing mantis. I managed to kill it with my henchies and it dropped Tahkayun's Pincers.
I was wondering why they were green, but thought not much of it and merched them.
The next day, the one who introduced me to the game came on, and I told him what had happened. He then hit me for merching a unique item.
My noobishness at it's best XD

Don't worry. It's just Tahkayun's Pincers. It's your typical unique that only heroes would really end up using. So no harm was done. Now, it that was something like Vera, I might be the one hitting you.
My mistakes often involve being faster than the UI, and not noticing it, like dragging an item to switch it with another, then drag it again before the server switches them items, or being twitchy, inadvertently double clicking an item before dragging it.
And then, dragging one of them to throw it in the trash, and hitting Yes without reading what I'm deleting. And then noticing that I actually deleted the incorrect item, which sometimes was the weapon in my hand.
So after happening a few times, I became VERY careful when handling /bonus items, PvP weapons, surplus quest items ant other non-sellable crap.

I know. When I first started I accidentally merched a Totem Axe and it was like the most crushing GW experience ever for me. |

When I was young, I sold a gold drop containing a Superior Vigor to the merchant. Com'on, what use would that (non-stacking) rune ever have, when you can just put 5 (stacking!) Runes of Vitae on each piece of armor you're wearing?
rkubik
Mine was just yesterday. I let my 5 year old son play my sin with full vabbian and Mo Zing mask. Somehow he deleted my mask and I just sold all my carvings from nick a few weeks ago, so I guess now back to doing some CoF runs. Just soon after that we created a character that his own in pre-searing.
