Digital preservation for GW1

If the game does die, I kinda wonder how people are going to be able to do the HoM? Are you able to gain titles that require teamplay(for example GvG, Gladiator, etc) or get all the minipets for the hall? How is that going to work out after Guild Wars 2, if the game becomes dead or with only a very few amount of people on?
Gruff
Roll on GW3 where they revisit so much of what was right in the original game and mechanics.

People would probably just sync the pvp stuff. Mini's would just become harder to get/more expensive. Then again, I seem to remember ANet saying at some point that they'd stop people adding to the HoM for more GW2 rewards some months after gw2 launches, so i don't know if they'd ever let it get to that point.

I will play GW forever, or until I die.

Don't get attached to pixels. Problem solved.

it will NEVER get the axe god damnit.
as long as gw2 brings people in, they'll wonder what happened in the PAST of gw2 eventually. thus go back to buy more gw1 accounts to EARN those HoM rewards. people always want a lil racoon or want some cosmetic that can only be gotten by earning it, not through cash. itll feed itself.
god.
EPEEN WILL FUEL gw1...it will NEVER GET THE AXE

and everything you invested, payed for, built up over the course of 7 years will be erased!
I bring this up to you guys because it's a concern if you want to keep your items, your pets, or just generally want to go back to playing the game again. You have to tell the higher ups that you want this game to be preserved in some form, whether it be a full single player game download, or supported for private servers with friends to party up with. |
I would like a blank slate, start fresh. If it's possible to keep characters, armors, costumes, titles, and such, all the better, but for me I would choose to start fresh anyway.
It would be so great if they could give us all the build revisions so we could pick a data build from 2005 or 2006 or play with the latest.
But yes, please, no matter how, I'd love to keep playing Gw1.
I've purchased Gw2 already, but as expected Gw2 is like every other on-line game I hate. I'm still hoping the game will change my mind, but... I don't think it will.
So Anet/NcSoft, keep my Gw2 money as thanks for Gw1... and let me play this game until I'm sick and tired of it (never?).
Let people set up their own PvP servers between friends. I want to learn HA and GvG or set up a Team Arena between friends I trust. I didn't get to play PvP while it was still hot.
Let us change or create new skills, quests, or maps, so we players can keep the game interesting. Maybe I will make my own good looking male skins, shapes, and armors :-D Record my own cinematic and make Prince Rurik say (even funnier) stuff.
I know you Gw1 employees will login to our player servers and laugh your ass off

I wouldn't mind if they chose to make an offline version available for the hardcore, but I wouldn't be butt-hurt if they didn't either.

The best way to preserve GW... is to keep playing it if you like it so much.
As long as it makes commercial sense to keep servers running alongside GW2 servers, Anet won't shut it down. As long as people play it, they have no reason to shut a surely long ammortized system that won't require much maintenance or new resources in the future.
It's all up to us, it worked for EverQuest and many other seemingly surpassed MMOs. If anything, GW2's success and revenues won't be the prequel's killers, but more likely its key to survival.

I don't know how many server machines are used for GW1. I don't have any knowledge on how they work. But if the player base for GW1 ever shrinks down, maybe it will require less server machines and resources to accommodate the remaining player base. If there's ever a time when there is hardly any activity in GW1, maybe they'll still keep it online with one or two server machines for those who want to log in for whatever reason. And everyone's accounts and characters and everything else will still be there.

So you plan on playing Guild Wars for another X amount of years? Why? I couldn't care less if all my stuff and characters were wiped 2 years from now if the servers were shut down. Old game is old. Move on.
