I am interested in purchasing Guild Wars but I would like some input from people who currently play the game. After I stopped playing Ultima Online, I tried several role playing games and none have really got me hooked. How would you compare Guild Wars to WOW, UO, and other role playing games???

thanks,,,

Guild Wars isn't really like any other game I've played.

It's sorta like Diablo and Dungeon Siege but has elements in common with WoW, UO and other MMO's.

The combat is similar to Diablo/DS.
You have Missions and quests like a MMO.
PvP is handled differently than other MMO's. It only occurs in specific areas and you have to conciously eneter those areas you can't wander into them by accident.
When you leave a town/outpost the play in instanced. You only see the players on you team/party. There are no other parties around. You can't really play the whole game solo but there are NPC Henchmen that can accompany you to fill out a group.

Hope this helped

Guild Wars is very heavily focused around strategy and combat, not around items, crafting, or the economy. PvP is a huge part of the game, although you don't have to do it to enjoy the game. There is minimal grind. You can reach the endgame in 30 hours.

It's very different from most RPGs.

I can tell you now, it's nothing like UO. Pets aren't controllable (they just attack what you attack), you can't make crafting characters, you don't own a house (though if you join a guild you get a guild hall IF the guild can afford it).

However at the same time there are no Dexxers ruling PvP, anyone can compete and win. There's no ganking, no stealing (unless you 'allow' it by dropping an item on the floor)

I play GW alongside UO. UO fulfills my true RP need, whereas GW gives me the balanced, skillful play that I enjoy. UO lets you really live the life, whereas GW lets you live the combat.
