weekend events

PR fud at its best right here as my brother works as a PR guy for a large healthcare service. They won't ever say it but its obvious gw1 = unimportant enough to even update a login screen. I wish companies would just come out and say what they are actually doing instead of sugar coating everything.

1 Question i have - with anets current track record of failing to announce events - you think they`ll get round to announcing gw2 release on its release date ??

They are probably quite busy with the other game seeing as they just had another stress test (you'd think by now they would have that figured out with release only a few days away---)...seeing as their release date was probably.....a bit before the game is really ready (and we DO know that anet has a history of taking a very very very long time to get things fixed---).
ps was probably ncsoft that did the announcement ...

There is an expression "you catch more flyes with honey then with vinegar. The reason I'm posting (and this goes for a bunch of other subjects too) it here is that They made a buy to play game over 7 years ago. beside two new campaigns and an expansion people didn't need to put extra money in to it. They kept it however alive without ever asking for something like a monthly fee (wich is common use to do in this genre, GW is unique in this matter, atleast as far as I know).
They promised that even after the release of GW2 they are going to let the servers running. For how long they do that, nobody knows and I can't look into their heads. But if I was the descissionmaker at Anet I would listen to my customers. If the customers are wining and complaining bout the lack of updates of e.g. a welcome screen announcement and demanding that manpower is used to update that message weekly, I would make the descission to pull that plug earlier. The reason is that Anet isn't charity. I'm not from the US but I live in europe. The cost of the cheapest employer in my company (I'm only employed there myself btw) cost the company atleast 150 USD/hour (cost of hardware, cost of internet/network lines, cost of furnature, wages paid, cleaning of the workspace, cost to manage the person etc. etc.). So to "simply" maintain the welcome screen message once/week for 5 minutes you would need to have a budget of 12,50 euro. So basicly selling one single campaign/week to a new customer.
So to make a long story short (and I know my math isn't 100% perfect). Eveything you ask Anet to do that cost money will either not be granted anyhow or if it will be granted, it will bring the moment they pull the plug closer. That doesn't mean that it's not ok to be critical bout things, but personally I hve never found an up to date welcome screen message very important.
Ow and what really is the likely reason is that the person who always is updating it is either transfered to the GW2 team or is on holliday and forgot to transfer the responsabillity. This explaination would fit into both "technical and human hickups" and would be the precise PR words I would use If I was stephano trying to explain someone was allready windsurfing in his/her head instead of remembering to transfer the responsability to update the gw welcome message

GW1 may be free to play, but it is still generating income well in excess of what it would take to pay one guy to change the login text. The argument that F2P games without subscriptions will inevitably be cancelled is somewhat defeated by games like Diablo 1 & 2 which are STILL playable via Battle.Net.
So instead of being an apologist for ANet, hold them to a higher standard, being critical will make sure that GW2 conforms to a higher level of quality and is the game everyone wants. If Beta testers and programmers were to just give up whenever a problem arose, games would never get finished properly and those that did would be unplayable garbage.

I would change the login text for free. They could even train a monkey to do it, they don't have to hire some nuclear scientist.

Its been a while since we've had the double luxon and kurzick title points donations, anyone have any idea when the next one would be. The last one fell under a special event weekend which they swapped something then the following week had Alliance battle weekend. This weekend was the next prediected one which is now apparently double faction in competitive missions.
cosyfiep
not sure, guess they are changing things up a bit (or someone messed up---). I would wait and see exactly what this weekend winds up being (could just be the wrong log in announcement---like that hasnt happened before).
BenjZee
It's cool they changed the log in announcement to the correct one shortly after i commented on wiki. Phew i been waiting for this double kurzick and luxon for awhile.
EPO Bot
Can we just accept the apologies for this non-issue and move on?
Winner
Yep it's double kurz/lux this weekend and double fame next weekend and GW 2 the weekend after (sigh..). I still do hope this game won't completely die and will continue to live at least for few more months.
exc3ssive
Plzzz, somebody tell what is this week's event. I really want to see sunspear/lightbringer or eotn factions op whatever. Time is running out guys!
BuD
More than likely its double Balthazar, Fame & Chests in HA. Still would be nice to update it, or at least say "We're mirroring 2011 weekend events."
Winner
it's double fame weekend
BuD
Getting 10k XP for Elite caps, not sure if it has anything to do with the festival/new quests, double XP is not mentioned in the update notes.
Puddin Cheeks
Getting double faction for donating to alliance in Kurz and luxon as well!
Valkaire
I'm getting double asuran rep from vanquishing. Could be that during wayfarer's reverie they activate all the weekend bonuses. Has anyone checked for pvp bonuses? :O
Premium Unleaded
One of the previous weekends was all of the bonus events activated.
