Hi all,
Im in the search of getting some dddr3 ram for my i7 mobo and i dont know which kind of ram to get ive got this hardware:
CPU- i7 965 Extreme Edition 3.20gh
intel's web site said it supports 800 and 1066 mhz only
MOTHERBOARD- XFX INTEL MB-X58I-CH19
Supports DDR3 1600(O.C.)/13333/1066MHz NON ECC UNBUF
and i was wondering what if i add this set of ram...
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB
1066MHZ DDR3 2X4GB dual channel
But since the board supports tripple channel ram im not sure if this might be a good way to go or which ram could be recomended and im also not interested in overclocking ram or stuff like that XD unless thats the only option.
Thanks alot
Ram compatability question?

I would suggest you get 3 sticks of DDR3-1333 such as:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231223
Note that these 3 sticks are cheaper than the two sticks of 1066.
You should always put the RAM in sets of 3 with that CPU/mobo. Although the official specs for the i7-965 say it only supports up to 1066 RAM, it apparently can support 1333 and 1600 as well. In any case, if the motherboard can't be set to 1333, the RAM can be under-clocked to 1066.
Btw, there's nothing special about dual-channel or triple channel RAM. It's just 2 or 3 sticks of the same single RAM.

So maybe changing the mainboard and the ram might be a better option?
i just got the cpu from a friend and i want to build a decent pc for gw2 :P
i already got everything but the board and the memory anything you guys might sugguest?
edit: btw im looking to spend around 300 to 400 bucks in mobo/ram combo.

Besides the above linked RAM (or something similar), get any LGA1366 motherboard that has the features you want. Of the limited number of boards available on Newegg, I can't see any brand that I wouldn't recommend.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ame=LGA%201366
At this point, considering that the LGA1366 socket is dead already - replaced by the LGA2011 - a 're-furbished' or 'open box' board might be a good cost-saving option.
Btw, make sure that your case can accept the motherboard you choose. Most average cases are ATX, but some smaller ones are only micro-ATX (mATX).
