HoM and GW2 right around the corner
2 pages • Page 2
Came back two months ago at 35/50 with 50/50 as a goal. Between using up some old saved cash, trading for even more, and doing a ton of PvE, I'm now 50/50. Also started from 12 max titles and that's climbed all the way to 27/30 for GWAMM, with the only ones left being Tyrian Vanquisher/Legendary Vanquisher, and Legendary Survivor. Really not as bad as I thought it used to be.

I wouldn't worry about the HoM unless it is for your own personal pleasure. Enjoy the remaining two weeks before the sequel is released. The way people are talking they make it seem as if getting 50/50 takes no time or effort at all and that committing months of your time is not a big deal. I think the reality is that if you haven't been playing for a long time then even specifically targeting HoM goals will take a substantial time investment. I've been playing since the betas and just recently acquired the consumable points for max HoM.
Odds are HoM titles and rewards won't matter a week after release, or maybe even at release.

It really depends what your after the rewards for personally. If it's personal gratification I'd say they will matter for the life time of GW2 as a memento and reminder of the first game to that particular player, even if they become outdated or surpassed I'd ignorantly assume they will be used, displayed and enjoyed for many years to come.
If it's for e-peen or "Look at me!!I got GWAMM in GW!!" I'd agree other titles/loot will quickly surpass HoM rewards, particularly when you take into consideration the fact much of the player base won't have even played GW1 let alone care that it existed in the first place.
The rewards attained in GW2 will quickly become vastly more desirable to both new players and those with HoM 50/50.
Personally I don't even bother with HoM as I began playing GW directly because of the lack of such mechanics and stuck with the community of friends even after such things began sneaking in.As such I agree newer players are better off playing GW as it was originally intended, pre titles and HoM, as that's why we all liked it to begin with.
I could'nt imagine installing the game only to ignore much of the brilliance and fun on offer just to try and rush a HoM 50/50.
Turns the game from fun into a work simulator but hey...to each their own.
I did raise this issue in-game the other day though and man.....did some people get angry when many players stated they could'nt care less about HoM.
At the end of the day Anet will be happy with how the mechanic worked out as it kept this game alive and relatively populated in place of releasing new content by way of actual expansions.I never agreed with Anet going that way but it accomplished it's goal and more power to them.
Can't wait.

Expecially since "titles" in GW2 seem to be largely irrelevant and unrappresentative - most of those are more like glorified account statistics that have little e-peen/show off value - as opposed to GW1, where titles progressively got more and more significance among players, to the point that they almost became the sole reason for a lot of them to play this game.
So the attention will likely be somewhere else (Karma rewards?).
I'm just glad I'll be able to use Heritage Armor on my Warrior when I'll start playing, as starter armor looks quite plain and boring. Oh, and the Orange Tabby Cat will be cute to have. That's it.
The thing is, with the amount of hype over GW2, there has been plenty of time for people to obtain 50/50, whether they're veteran gamers or just got the set. There will be no prestige in having 50/50 for a good five or ten years of the game's life because all you're telling people is you got sucked into Anet's advertising campaign.
I checked the rest of the regular achievements titles in GW2 and they are just meh. If I do wear a title in GW2, I will proudly wear my GWAMM or no title at all since it took me a lot of work to achieve it.
Let any who should revive me along the way (which should be often), know that they have revived a god!

Whatever... Chances are jerks are going to revive you and then whisper insults at you. I was called "RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOtard" by a guy I revived, and that was just for playing a shotgun warrior, so, well, anything goes...
Displaying the GWAMM title is seen by some people (wich i refuse to hang out with) as the ultimate sign of incompetence, so you better keep it to yourself.
It's for the same reason why no self respecting pro would ever dye his FoW armor. Because coloring such a trivial chore achievement is admitting that you care about it. And a real pro can buy a Fow outfit twenty times a day.
And admitting you ever play PVE is the king of status ruiners among the legits anyway. So don't admit you play it, let alone enjoy it. You will be sorry you where born.
Trust me. I have been there.
And now that i think of it, all the legits have quit this game after the beta and only complain about the lost glory days on this forum anyway.
Don't bother with GW2 because it will never be as good as it was in the beta. The good old days are over.
So please excuse me as i go pkay some more minecraft.
No wait, that one jumped the shark when it got popular. Gaming in general is no longer something you want to associate with! (throws computer out of window)

I mean, i barely have 1 year in the game, and i think its pretty hardcore, but from what i seen of gw2 (bought it already =P ), well, not to say it's "vanilla", but doesnt to seem so hardcore oriented to me.

with that in heart, i ask you GW veterans, does GW2 seems less hardcore than GW1?

I wouldn't say it's any easier or harder than GW because Guild Wars has had the problem of having 6 years or so of powercreep, 7H teams make the game too easy.

That's the point of gaming (at least on of the points). To achieve something in game and show it to others. If you're #1 hero battles player (I know it's removed) or in #1 GvG guild, or even daily winning HoH, of course you would like people to know about it.

Whole point of titles is to be shown, same as emotes. I played the game and earned my GWAMM and my phoenix emote, of course I'll show them off. Else, what would be the point in having them? And isn't that why most of people want to work on their HoM? It's to show off "cool" weapons and titles in GW 2.

In fact, I'm completely the opposite in that I don't like to show off. I try to keep all my prestige as secret as possible. Not that I don't appreciate it when people give me praise. When people I never even met know me and give me praises, of course I appreciate it. It's just that when people are calling me by name, smiling, and being friendly, I feel so bad because I don't even know their name.
Plus, there are the annoying and creepy people (most likely some weird kids... no offense to normal kids) who just stalk you or something. Ugh... There are just so many weird people online.
