I know there is a betta test on gw2 but OMG the lag in gw's today is making it unplayable . is this because of the gw2 test ? I would of thought that it would'nt make a difference to gw .
All i know is today you can't play, one second you have a green light next you are logged out .i know its not me or my system as allies are having the same prob.
Anyone have any input into the reason, would be very thankfull
cheers
beta test for gw2 affecting gw1

There was an announcement during the stress test that there were some who experienced lag in GW and GW2 do to internet issues, but it didn't really elaborate on the problem.
They did apologize for the inconvenience though.

yeah was pretty bad...think I walked the same path about 40 times just trying to move...took quite a beating trying to vanquish (good thing my heroes could basically do it without me )....hope they get it all worked out soon.

So it's actually happening; Anet have decided to place GW2 servers on existing GW servers. Very smart!

Servers are multitasking machines and services offered are fragmented, so it's entirely possible that, say, the login servers for GW1 also serve as a login servers for GW2. The daemon dispatching login requests is probably the same.
These issues could be caused by a multitude of problems on the network that affected both games. Assuming that it's just due to the heavy load during the stress test is somewhat hard to believe, expecially since they've been increasing servers capacity quite dramatically in the last few months.
As far as we know this could be due to:
- Specifically arranged network conditions - like the intentional deactivation of resources, which affected both games - , in order to get a more realistic simulation of the whole system behaviour next to its natural limits.
- Data analysis during the tests
I sure hope this is nowhere near to the actual status of the network, or Anet is really going to have a problem here...

First of all, the servers are not Arenanet's, but NCsoft's.
A simular thing happened with the release of Aion but after a few weeks things settled down. I do hope however that these stresstests are doing what their purpose is (finding out how much servber capacity is needed) and it won't take weeks but none at all. Another thing thats different now (if they use it and I do hope so) is that server can be clouded. This means that the servers are not dedicated, but hired when needed. This means they can very quicly extend server capacity.
Last of all. Yes I do expect they are going to use server capacity of GW for GW2. like discussed at other places an amount of people are going to play GW2 so lets say that is 50% of the current playerbase. Then GW1 can do with 50% less servercapacity.
Like said, the purpose if stresstests (besides promotion of the game) is to see how much capacity they need. So lets hope they found it out properly and gw1 users won't notice a thing when the game is released.

They were experiencing technical issues with one of their North American data centers; and since both GW1 and GW2 servers are housed in the same location, both experienced issues (at least for American players).
The lag wasn't a result of placing "GW2 servers on existing GW servers." So calm down.

GW 2 is using the same servers as GW 1. These thing will happen way more often after release and my guess is they'll keep GW 1 running for another year and then shut it down since it's a waste of resources (or at least it will be by then).

Friday night was basically unplayable. While I pre-ordered GW2, I didn't plan on playing it for a few weeks, in the hopes that the launch-day fighting and issues wasn't around. I'm going to be pretty upset if I ALSO can't play GW1.
