I find it an enourmous waste btw that for once they add new content they only make it for limited time and once per account. Why not keep the quests, do only the tormented weapon once per account while the rest doable with every char? Just for the sake of having something new to do, who cares about rewards.

There's a lot of people who have some festive titles maxed, but still work on the other ones. It's a bit frustrating when you have drunkard maxed, you work on, say, party animal, and all that drops for you is absinthe. With the solution presented in this event people have choice on what they receive.
Aba
Just popping in to say I was on my dervish doing all the quests.
Open gift on Dervish and got a Tormented Scythe.

Anyone know if it's possible to get anything other then a shortbow if opened on a ranger? So far GWWiki only shows Shortbows....
BenjZee
I got a shortbow on my Ranger.

I just have to say that these quests, the NPC dialogs, seeing all these places again...it's been a tearjerker, it really has. So, so many memories, so many familiar places. I cannot wait to do it over again.
Zenzai
They are 1pt items, only with a max value of 100-125g each. There are plenty of users who trade points in one category for another. I still don't think it warrents another item and NPCs that will likely only be used once.

The quests are so not worth doing.

I actually enjoyed the quests.
It made sure I saw all the little things that Anet created that I never noticed ( balths temple in the falls, the view from Anvil rock, etc), so for me it was fun playing the tourist.
The reward I could care less about since I maxed my HoM ages ago.
Did the sight seeing on my derv, nec opened the gift, nec got tormented soul reaping staff.
I usually dislike dumbing down the game or make rewards easier, but I suppose I can live with this.
Most people got a tormented weapon already, its not like armbraces are as valuable as prot BDS or envoy scythes.
Its customised, so you cannot trade them, and you need to be able to pretty much visit every place in every campaign, so there is still a bit of effort involved.
I can live with this.
But I do agree that its a shame that the quests are a one time only thing.
Perhaps its an idea to implement the Zaishen Tourist quests from now on?
visit 8 locations, get reward, get bonus for visiting in HM?

Seeing as people seem to be getting different Tormented Weapons depending on if they have an Torment weapons in their invent (Or so ive observed) do you think if i put my Torm Sword/Axe/Shield onto my Warrior, i would get the Hammer? Even if they are custo for a different char?
I wonder hmmm...
Still dont know who to open it on

Well as had a few T wepons I thought I would try for another staff for a Mesmer
I gave the gifts to the Mesmer and obtained the wepon, aww it was a Sceptre instead of a staff. so you could be right in that respect.
As already had staffs but never wanted a Sceptre I was given one.
so who knows to be honest how the gift system works

A lot of those locations sucked the life out of me. Most of the quest was boring. But I did get to see the leviathan trapped in jade again and I found out that the crystal desert links to Nightfall's desert! That was a nice surprise I never knew about.
I'm glad it's over. I got my staff and I've uninstalled again.

was an interesting nostalgia trip to find after 7 years you still get absolutely obliterated by Hydras.
EPO Bot
I never even noticed that leviathan before.

That depends on your point of view. If you have been playing this whole time and have all the tormented weapons, then yes. If you took a two+ year break and are waiting for gw2 to release and you want to walk down that nostalgia road then it is awesome.
EDIT: All the statues of people we love closely related to ANet and the community are really cool. I especially love the ones of Gaile and Rubi.

just about done with this on 2 accounts (dragging one of my mule accounts for the lol)...
am also unsure as to which character to open it with--I have one who is working on getting a full weapon set on her own (dont ask--this was a goal from BEFORE the hom was account wide)...as a rit she would probably get a staff or wand (both of which my account already has as well as the focus)...so wonder what they will dump on her.
I was glad they did the quest--though wish they would have allowed it for more characters (with OUT the tormented reward)...nice to go to some of those places again---

And lemme be the first to congratulate John Stumme on his promotion to festival director. Ow and I'm a bit curious bout what kind of crazy adventures you had with the four woman known as the Zaishen Sworn
BuD
Had all Tormy weaps in my HOM already, my Necro got a Tactics Shield.

I thought the quests were generally pretty cool. I managed to convince a friend to come along even though he generally avoids PvE. Going through Bloodstone Caves with a character that had never done it before was fun. I took Light of Deldrimor on his skill bar and was really surprised to see how many treasures were in there - plus a hidden switch. I had forgotten about that stuff. Any contact with Rotscale or the Hidden City still gives me the heebie jeeebies but that was all good. Several bosses dropped their greens and I have to say that, overall, drops were generous.
End result - I got a new scythe for my Dervish and my friend got a new staff for his Necromancer. Very nice.

So i opened it on my Monk, hoping for the staff. Got the Scepter.
I really want to bin it, but well, it is tormented i guess, as ccrap as it looks.
So pissed of with that.
Btw, was wielding a plain staff when i opened it, maybe the gift said "Hey, he has a staff, he doesnt need another one" >.<

I am pretty sure that wielded weapons do not affect your drop, since my necromancer got a tormented staff while wielding his death BDS at the time.

No source on hand that I can find, but I heard that it's based on what you have dedicated + the class you are playing rather than what you have equipped. Meaning, it will give you something for your class (starting with staff on casters, then moving to scepter) if you have anything for your class not dedicated yet. If you do have everything for your class dedicated, if gives you something else you haven't dedicated. Starting with shield maybe?
Seems to fit the pattern I've seen so far.

I find it very logical that the quests are one time per account - they don't contain any unique content - people who enjoy it can revisit the exact same places without the quests just as well (or better go and visit a huge lot of other special nostalgic locations that were omitted in these quests).
As for the rewards, from the reports here it looks clear that the game looks at what *Tormented* weapons you already have.
The algorithm seems to work like this:
Also you should know that:
As for the rewards, from the reports here it looks clear that the game looks at what *Tormented* weapons you already have.
The algorithm seems to work like this:
- There's an ordered list of weapons for every profession.
- Upon opening it checks if you have the first weapon from your profession's list in your account HoM and perhaps current character's inventory too (people don't tell enough details) and if you don't have it you get it.
- If you already had the first, check the second and get it if you don't have it yet.
- ...repeat until the end of the list. Can't tell yet if the list contains just a few or all 11 weapons.
- give a random one if player has all 11?
Also you should know that:
- It doesn't matter what you have equipped.
- It DOES matter what your other characters have dedicated in HoM - for example if your Necro had a Staff in HoM and you open gift on a Monk you will not get a Staff (unless you got everything).
- It doesn't matter what are your attributes setup - caster weapons will always be for primary attribute (I got an Energy Storage Scepter - so bad)

Well you might be both right, but statistics dictate we need atleast 25 people in the same situation to confirm. Cause the situation is diverse (no weapons in HoM, no weapons in inventory with all possible combo's till eleven) that means we need to record the information of over 3000 people to be sure how the system works. So I'm happy with the suspicion that everyone gets a weapon they either don't have yet and if possible could use.
Commander Ryker
Has anyone done any of the quests yet? I'm on the bloodstone one now and I can't get past the first door. I looked around but can't find the key.

Did you take the quest crystal method from Saerin in Gadd's encampment? otherwise the doors in the dungeon will stay closed cause the ettin that drops the key won't be there. Also make sure your in the dungeon not the primairy quest (use the portal not the stone to enter the dungeon).

* hom tormented dedicated items: energy storage staff, fire wand, fire focus
* she got an tormented tactics shield
my mesmer (secondary account)
* no dedicated tormented items in hom
* she got a tormented fast casting staff
In first case the game couldn't give me a caster item cause I already had them dedicated in hom. Probably the shield was random from the remaining items.
In second case game could give me any weapon and I got a caster weapon.
Not enough data to say something for sure. My father account should make it clear cause he has only a tormented staff dedicated in hom. If his rt is doing the quests I will get an better idea based on what he gets (my bet is on an spawning power wand or focus).
Rifky
There are so many people who play casters and got a Tactics shield having all the caster weapons already dedicated it makes it quite probable that the "other" weapons are ordered and the shield is first on the list.
thedukesd
Allow me to doubt it. Why? In all the duo UW farm runs (and there were 200+ runs, enough to get statistic data) I was always getting less ectos then the other person, always (i was getting 50%-75% of the ectos that the other person was getting). For me it was enough to make me think that random in Guild Wars is not really working as random should work. But then again when Random Arena is not that random and you can sync happy so there is no surprise that random it's not random in this game (random has nothing to do with the way you get in a match, the players are added in a list in row and from there they are send to matches). I chosed only those 2 examples (there are others) to show how the developers of guild wars understand the word random.

sooo
my rit finished up doing the quests....HAS: bow, wand, focus, staff and shield (paragon).
got: spear! (didnt have it so that was good news!)
so 'something you dont already have' is still working here.
EDIT: finished with 2nd account....had none...did with ele..got ES staff. (sosuke is happy with it).

I find it far more likely that they would impart some kind of order on the item. There are far too many dervishes who got scythes and casters who got staves to think otherwise.
GODh
I just came back after being away for a few days and found out about this update.
I read the wiki, but i still have some questions (hopefuly someone knows the answers):
* i can do this with 2 accounts... on my main account i have all tormented weapons minus the axe and the hammer. So, according to wiki, i should get one of these 2. But my warrior doesnt have every town/outpost unlocked, but my ranger does. Can i do the quests on my ranger and then add the Reverie Gift to storage, pick it up and open it with my warrior? Or does my ranger needs to open it (in that case i have to give it to a hero)?
* on my 2nd account i only have a few tormented weapons, but i am still missing something like the bow. When i open a Reverie Gift on my 2nd ranger i should, according to wiki, get a bow. But do i always get a shortbow (never a recurve, flat- or longbow)?

I have had all torment weapons in my hall for years, and because of this hard work, I get nothing but a tactics shield that I already had....
Thanks Anet for devaluing the work I did. If it was at least sell able I could I made some cash to buy something I actually could use.
