Hey guys,
Let me briefly explain my situation. I have owned guild wars for years (the entire collection, all content packs and expansions etc.) Unfortunately I never really played. I am playing guild wars 2 now and loving it so much.
I would like to start playing Guild Wars with a focus on PVE, I have no interest in PVP on guild wars.
I just need some advice.
Here is my goal with guild wars:
To unlock as much hall of monuments as possible for my Warrior in guild wars 2, and to a much lesser degree, experience some of the back story to guild wars 2.
Here are my questions:
Im going to play warrior in guild wars 1. What is best campaign to go with? Prophecies, Factions, or Nightfall?
What is a good sub class to go with my warrior when considering my interest is to go through pve content as quick as possible?
Can you recommend a build to use with the suggested sub class?
Thank you all so much for your help with this!

Ok got some advice, and I wanted to run it by you guys and see what you think.
Nightfall for campaign, fastest way to get leveled and unlock HoM rewards for GW2 character.
Ranger for subclass, most subclasses are limited in functionality due to limited energy pool for warrior. Activated skills that require energy are going to work against me in many ways. It is taxing to manage the warriors own skills alone due to limited energy pool. A build of mixed adrenaline and energy is best course of action for this.
Ranger apparently offers best utility value out of all sub classes without having to worry about energy pool management as much.
Weapon: 1h Axe and shield, focus on str and IAS based build. Ignore tactics or use it minimally. Best defense is good offense.
always use casting merc's/heroes. Melee based/tanks are useless.
Anything else you guys want to add? Or if you think this advice is ill advised please do tell me.
Guild Wars newb needs some advice.

The best campaign to start to play GW is Nightfall as you get heros which are better than Prophecies or Factions henchmen.
It doesn't matter what secondary you choose for W/ although best to go /Mo for the hard res(rebirth) in Prophecies or flesh of my flesh in Factions.
You lvl up faster in Factions then Prophecies or Nightfall however you get a slower lurnig curve in Prophecies best to go axe.Don't use any warrior henchies in that campaign.
It will take you some time to get all the titles maxxed a few months so be patient.
I hope this helps.

My main was a warrior, and I went W/Mo until I got NF.
I'd start from factions, it'll level you up the fastest. Visit NF and EotN asap for the starting heroes they'll give you.
Use a 1H weapon (axe or sword) with a shield until you complete the quest Closer to the Stars (different quest if you start from proph/NF)
When you're L20 and "Closer to the Stars" change to W/D and use an Enduring Scythe build.
Use Caster Heroes. (mesmer, necro, monk, rit are all good)

just for you to know, you cant really just rush trough the game and earn the upgrades for your gw2 char. there is this little process called grinding to get all the titles maxed, identifying and finding golds, earning money for sweets, parties, opening chests, collecting faction oO. good luck with that.

Thank you all for the info.
If i wanted to learn back story as well, is prophecies the best choice with that in mind?
oh and can you do all 3 campaigns from a single character? or do you need to create a char for each campaign to experience the story for each campaign?

Yes, you can have a "main" and do everything on that char if you so desire. You'll miss a little bit of opening story for the ones you didn't start with, but if you are bothered you can repeat the missions you miss and it informs you that they are "events prior to your arrival at (Lion's Arch/Kaineng Centre/Kamadan)".
As far as opening story goes, I'd say NF has the most easily missable, as you arrive in nearly the same place as new players start, factions next, then proph which has 6 missions and numerous quests before a crossover point.
But as I say, you can go back and do them if you want.

It depends on what your priorities are? The story line or the Hall of monument rewards?
If its the former, start with prophecies. If its the latter, as others have said, start with nightfall.
I'm confirming the warrior/ranger. That's what I did and it was easy.
For more guides on warrior tanking and builds, seach here on Guru. There are also some excellent guides up on YouTube. (There are also great lore videos our there these days too - you might want to check out WoodenPotatoes channel).

Unless you have someone to give you money (be it legally or illegally) in the game, you can expect that even getting 30/50 in HoM and/or completing all the stories in GW1 is going to take you a long time, I'd say 200 hours would be a low estimate. This will be increased if you decide to start in prophecies, especially if you decide to play the game through "linearly".
Each primary campaign is (roughly) stand-alone. There's a few cross-overs, but they're pretty minor. This changes with EoTN and the GW:Beyond quests.
From an efficency perspective, the fastest way to get through the game without ruining the story (imo) would be:
If you'd like to see the pre-searing stuff, just start a prophecies character to play through that story.
I bought the game about 5-6 months ago. I started a character in prophecies (got LDoA doing it) and played through the campaigns in temporal order, and didn't buy the skill unlock packs but instead attempted to learn all the skills manually. It is astoundingly tedious and overly long. I'm up to about 750 hours on my 'main' alone, and I'm just now finishing up all the quest lines and having some decent cash in the bank.

From an efficency perspective, the fastest way to get through the game without ruining the story (imo) would be:
- Buy the skill unlock packs. All of them.
- Start a factions character. Play through all the primary and secondary quests up till you get to the mainland. Run up to Kaineng City, grab the EoTN quest to go to EoTN. You should also meet (and acquire) M.O.X. on your way through. If you want a nightfall character (Dervishes are cool), then you can do that instead, it's just a tad bit longer. Just do the nightfall quest line till you're about to go to the docks to go to the mainland, then go to EoTN.
- Try to buy some normal and elite skill books for your character. Find a build on PvXWiki (link at the top of this site) for your character. Use the books to unlock the skills you don't have access to yet. You may need to take the quest to travel to Nightfall (kamadan) to get to Kamadan, where most of the trading happens in-game.
- Continue the EoTN main quest line till you get to Gunnar's Hold. Do the Norn Fighting Tournament till you unlock Xandra and Kahmu. This should unlock another 5 heroes for you.
- Go to PvXWiki (link at the top of this site) and find some 7-hero builds. Since you bought the skill unlock packs, you can actually use these builds.
- Go back to Kaineng City, and take the quest to go to Nightfall. Progress and play through Nightfall till the end of the campaign. This should unlock a pile of heroes for you.
- Go play through Prophecies. If you want the "full" story (sans pre-searing), you will need to run back to Ascalon City once you get to Lion's Arch, as opposed to starting into the Krytan quests.
- Go back to EoTN and finish those quests
- Go back and play through Factions.
- Play through War in Kryta, Hearts of the North, and finally Winds of Change.
If you'd like to see the pre-searing stuff, just start a prophecies character to play through that story.
