great so now you can get another crummy white mini from year one....guess I will be taking the 7th year gift box since it had a chance at those 'uber' minis---

well, at least they have some information out about it, so not completely forgotten.....

edit: the gift card link takes you to the sparkler /facepalm. and the page is just a copy of last year with a different date (and a few small changes, glad they are getting use out of it).

I think its even more pathetic than that---you will be able to exchange the card for a gift--think year X unopened gift, so if you pick say, year 2 gift, you can get any of that years minis...at least that is the way I read it. (I would LOVE to be proven wrong and you can exchange the card for a specific mini or tonic--not just an unopened year x gift).

and it even looks like the same ranger pet from last year, /sigh.

uhm....I certainly hope there is something not right there.....it says that the gift giver will only be around during the celebration, what about those of us whose toons are going to reach 8 in may, june, july......next year?????????? I hope that this npc is a bit more permanent. (otherwise, good going anet /sarcasm)

and jayson....ask them a question about NEW CONTENT for gw (then you can sneak in a question about whether they have heard about kickstarter and plan to do anything about it other than ignore anything about gw)...something along the lines of "so I see everything is just about the same as last year? are you planning any new content? what about the kickstarter rumor?"...gotta be sneaky with them sometimes

Honestly a kickstarter doesn't really mean much. Anet doesn't need the money for Guild Wars but it could show them that people are still willing to put money into this game making it worthwhile to continue working on. Interest is low now because the game is older and no new content is being created.

If Anet put out a question asking if players would pay for more expansions it would go a long way to help. Just add it to the main menu screen when you log in to the game and one on their main site. I truly believe that you'd get a lot of interest.

But it seems they're trying to distance themselves from this game when it comes to development.

The worst thing for me is that I'm left in the dark. If I knew GW servers are going to be up for several years, I would buy some items from cash shop (Xunlai storage says hi). But now, as I have no idea what their plans are, I'm not going to buy anything. Hence, ANet is losing money here AND aggravating its faithful customer.

As far as I know, there have been no indications whatsoever that the servers will be shut down any time soon, and ANet has stated that they will continue to run the servers for as long as there are still people playing the game.

Has something happened to make you feel like you are "left in the dark" about the servers? I'm personally quite confident that they'll be running for several years - but perhaps you know something that I don't?

From my point of view, there is a lot of uncertainty and doubt about whether or not the game will continue to get updates - but almost no uncertainty about it continuing to run. (And the 'almost' part is essentially just to cover for possibilities like Anet going out of business.)

if you can get gifts from any year (minus year 8) then most people will probably go for year 7 since it had the chance of limited edition minis--where as the other years (minus year 6) had minis that most people can get after a few days spamming in kamadan--year 6 only interests those who like tonics (or need to get them all).
So if its a choice--year 7 gift, but I dont think those of us with 7 year olds (faction characters) are going to get anything other than a year 7 gift, no card to turn it since it only mentions 8 year old characters.
so then both year 8 and year 7 will be worth the same amount (since you can get year 7 with year 8 gift card)....though year 8 might be worth a bit more since you can get the other years---but those are easier to get specific minis/tonics by trading in kamadan....so probably about the same.

So we get nothing new for this BDay and yet they seem to have time and resources to devote to making sidescrolling games for GW2 that honestly have nothing to do with the game itself.

How much of a slap in the face is that?

even though I am without a computer that can even play gw1 I am still getting those as well......the only NEW thing for this event (besides the 'gift card') is the rerenaming of the pink dye (and its vendor) WHOOOOOOOPPEEEEEEEEEE

and yeah, since I dont even have a computer, I am most certainly NOT (see: never) going to buy gw2 (heck couldnt even FIND it at the computer store, gw1 goty is still there however).

so I guess we have our answer for the other thread as well....ignore ignore and ignore....

i was planning to say something like "be happy with what they give us", but if they can give money for some offtopic game, they could make better use with the money they have left, to pump up GW

dont tell me anet can actually make/release the elona new content, but just wont do it, as they think GW really is dying

anet should know better, thx to facebook and twitter (i dont like the sites, but gotta admit its great for MMO's to see how mny fans they still have)

again: i hope they come back and eat their words, and continue GW's content releases, even if its for like 10 euro each or so, i'd pay it, np

No offense but you guys sound like a bunch of sore losers. You're lucky they are even giving you something for the 8th birthday. Their focus is GW2 now. Not GW1. Get the fuxk over it and stop turning this forum into ''Goddamn it Anet why don't you support you old ass game as much as you do your brand new one''.

Yeah gw2 is a piece of shit and tons of us miss GW1 but they can shut GW1 down and leave us in complete darkness. Their focus isn't GW1 anymore and it never will be. The chance we get a small dedicated team to keep it going with regular updates and whatnot is also at a low chance. Move on. The glory days are over and Anet has swam to a bigger ocean

You're getting the bday ticket or whatever. They could just stay quiet and not give or say anything. If you see the bday ticket as them not giving anything then you're expecting too much from people who don't care as much

I think money has never been a problem for them. They didn't abandon this game for lack of resources, apparently they are swimming into resources and they specifically said programming stuff for this game takes almost no time and effort (=hardly any resources). They made it clear a lot of times lately, even with pretty direct words, that they don't like this game and care even less. They could win billions at lottery or have hundreds more employers working for free and still they would devolve it all to the secondborn.

What makes me sadder is they worked so hard in pretending this game never existed, that even people are starting to forget its existence. Lately, everytime I read conversations about business models, they name gw2 as the most prominent example of buy to play model, and even talk about that intending it was practically the first mmo to go with that model. And I cry at night.

we got NOTHING new for the bday...getting the same presents that we already have (I have all the 1-5th years, dont care about the tonics, and probably wont get any of the uber ones from the 7th).

Just an FYI, the new sidescrolling game was apparently done in someones free time with no expense to Anet.

My point was that they can find people to devote time and resources to GW2 for free but not create paid content for GW.

I'm just relieved that the anniversary is the last major event to receive its EOL revision, as it means there are no more opportunities left for people to get unduly offended or act surprised about the event changes (or lack thereof). You guys keep setting yourself up with false hopes (kickstarter for example) and when reality hits it just knocks you down that much harder. Anet has not been coy about their plans, we've more or less known what they were doing since this started with the last Dragon Festival. It's one thing to be optimistic for the future, but setting unrealistic expectations and then reacting as though Anet promised anything of the sort is not healthy.

As for the gifts themselves, I think the change is needed because if they had left the 7th year gifts as the final item, then eventually we'd have a glut of normal purples, and whites from later years would virtually disappear from circulation. Not to mention the EL tonics.

On a side note, if you guys really want a fresh Online-RPG experience then maybe keep an eye on Neverwinter. It's based on the D&D rules, seems to have awesome, skill-based combat, and it allows players to make their own maps and quests. It's free to play (with the option to exchange the store currency with your in-game currency, like in GW 2) and the open beta will be on April 30th.
I'm not saying the game is good, but it's free so may as well try it.
