There's a good chance many players haven't played the original Guild Wars for a while. Maybe a login every once in a blue moon, but none of the regular play like the good old days.
I think Guild Wars 2 didn't live up to expectations, too put it mildly, and disappointed many. *cough*
There are no good MMO's on the horizon. IMO.
Guild Wars is still good. So why not replay Guild Wars?
The trouble is that it's dead. I tried to replay it a few weeks back, but almost immediately I quit and deleted the game files after seeing how deserted pre-searing Ascalon was. Now I know post-searing (ew) and beyond is where it's at.
But I wanted to begin anew, you see. And I figured it was going to be a lonely journey so I sadly reconsidered.
Later I thought a replay would work if lots of people agreed with me. A relaunch, if you will. The best case scenario for this, is for it to be official; all players play on a new account or new servers, starting with no wealth and no account-wide (storage) items. This might also reset the economy (although I have no idea what the economy is like now).
I'd like to mention real quick: I prefer WoW more as a social MMO. I like the Guild Wars combat much more, but in pretty much every other aspect I like WoW more. The reason I have a Guild Wars relaunch in mind and not a WoW relaunch is that the early game content for WoW has been mangled by Blizzard to have you quickly level to 40 and beyond.
The early game Guild Wars content still works. However, you could do things now you couldn't do before. For example, race to level 20 with that Eye of the North brawling game to to make all missions easier for your character. But I imagine you would also want to do the character-bound Tyrian achievements and do all bonus missions, so why bother race to level 20 when doing the bonus missions will give you enough bonus exp anyways? It's not an ideal situation, but the content isn't as ruined as WoW's early game content, and so I reckon it will still work. (It's also easier to do a relaunch with Guild Wars because Guild Wars is dead and WoW isn't. I couldn't imagine a WoW relaunch working without official support from Blizzard, i.e. a new server.)
The only major flaw in this plan that I can foresee is the account-wide achievement stuff. So, it would be better to replay with a new account, and have all other players that participate in the relaunch, also play on a new account.
A new account seems cumbersome though, not to mention the original Guild Wars is still pricy at 20 bucks.
An official relaunch seems highly preferable, but it's not something in our control. So I make this thread instead and lay my proposal here.
An unofficial relaunch would mean:
- Starting afresh in Guild Wars Prophecies, level 1, pre-Searing
- Deleting all characters (no previous characters) or new account
- No account-wide (storage) items
- New guilds
- No character creation until relaunch day
- A relaunch date! I propose a tentative date now to prevent things from being too vague
- Relaunch date: May 11
- Date can be moved depending on how many people we can get on board for this initiative
