EQ1 was a wildly successful MMO of it's time, before WoW was released.
EQ2 however, while still popular, it just wasn't as successful as the original game.
And even today people keep playing EQ1 despite the "dead game is dead" sayers, very much like GW1.
Now SoE have announced a new game, EverQuest Next (EQ3) that will neither be a sequel, nor a prequel. It will be as far as we know, a reboot of the two games, a parallell world with the best of EQ1 and EQ2. More details will be released in August 2013.

So again, why the talk of EverQuest in a Guild Wars forum?
I think GW1 and GW2 share a similar story, and that the GW universe is far from dead, it has so much potential and I believe a mix of the two games would be the way to go. GW2 was a bold experiment by Anet in changing the scene, some of which did not work out so well. GW2 is still a nice game, but it's way too different from GW1.
I believe a reboot of Guild Wars would be viable as well very similar to EQNext, taking the best from both games and placing the story in an parallell timeline that will play out a bit different. Most likely earliest in 2017-2020 when GW2 had at least 5 years to play out and mature.

How would you like a mix of GW1 and GW2 if you had a say in this?

PS. Please keep it clean and relevant to the topic. It is expected the comments might be a bit skewed towards GW1 since this is a GW1 forum, however this ain't really about GW1 or GW2 at all, it's about the evolution of both games.
