hi, everyone i realize that there are a few questions like mine in this forum but i have some specific questions when it comes to getting 10 hom points.
As you may have guessed, i am a gw2 player and im looking to get the fiery dragon sword. I just bought gw1 platinum pack yesterday for 20. it included prophecies and eye of the north. My questions are :
1. I have been doing prophecies for 3 hours and i am only level 4 and still in ascalon city, im stuck and all i see are side quests that lead me to "the breach", but it is a dead end and i and go to where my quest marker points to, in addition i would like to know how to identify my primary quest or mission?
2. I heard both fractions and nightfall are all way faster than the prophecies campaign. How much would u say tho? like twice as fast? or maybe even faster? If i wanted my hom 10 points ASAP would u say buying the triliogy, and starting a fractions or nightfall is a good deal?
3.If i were to buy triliogy which should i play fractions(i heard it was the shortest but u need other ppls help and no heros) or nightfall(slightly longer)
4. Can someone just lay out the 10 easiest points? I already have 3 and i think the minipets and hero ones are quite easy as well?
5.Would u say i can complete 10 points in a week if i play 2 hours a day?
6.do i have to play the main ranger if i want the pet HOM points such as black widow?
7.Can someone offer me guidance in game? if u get me on track and u have a gw2 char i would be happy to give u couple of gold for ur hard work!
In the end i just wanna say thanks to whoever replies and that i really enjoy the concept of gw1!
newbie help, with HOM 10

1. You can see your primary quests by pressing "L".
If you've accepted all the quests that you could from the NPC's, in the latest outpost that you unlocked, and you still can't see anything under "Primary Quests" then you need to complete a mission. In order to do a mission that you haven't completed before, just go to an outpost that does NOT have swords or spears on its icon and click the "Enter Mission" button.
And I don't know how to help you with the quest that involves the Breach. My advice would be to just go to where the quest marker tells you and look for something nearby.
2. The Factions story-line is about one third or one half of the length of one from Prophecies. However, in Prophecies, you can take a massive shortcut by going from the Northern Shiverpeaks to the Southern Shiverpeaks and basically cut the length of the campaign in half.
Also Nightfall is shorter than Prophecies but longer than Factions.
I guess it's hard to quantify these things... but one way to look at it is by noticing that Prophecies has 25 missions while Factions has 13 and Nightfall has 20. Also, keep in mind that most missions in Factions are based on time and have simple objectives so that makes the campaign feel even shorter.
3. You can complete Factions just fine by yourself, if you wanted to. Just go help the Luxon, and not the Kurzicks, when you are given the choice. Also, you can start the Factions campaign, then go to Elona (in the Nightfall campaign) just to unlock a few heroes and then come back to Cantha.
Either way, the choice is yours.
4. It would be helpful if you could post your in-game name for one of your GW 1 characters and tell us what was the last mission that you completed for each of the campaigns that you've started.
5. I have no idea.
6. No, you can charm any animal companion as long as you have the Ranger as your primary or your secondary profession.
7. Depends on what you need help with. I can give you a purple mini-pet for free, the Burning Titan.

as for the 10 points, you can get that pretty quickly.
3 points are awarded for 'accounts linked'
1 point for a pet in the fellowship (can be done using a pvp ranger character and the menergie).
so thats 4 easy points right there, you can buy some minis from other players (white ones are especially cheap right now), and get some filling in in the devotion area. New players also get 10 zaishen keys for free (see High Priest Zhang) which you can sell for some plat to other players (or open the chest for yourself----).

THanks guys for the fast response!
I have decided not to buy fractions or nightfall and try to finish the prophecies storyline.
i am curenntly a necro/ranger lvl 5 my ingame name is : Flare blazer . Plz add me:_)
i have finished one mission and now i am trying to finish the second one but everything is lvl 6 and i was lvl 4 so i started doing quests, is the lvling process supposed to be so slow, i gain like one lvl every 90 min doing quests. Am i supposed to do quests - missions - quests like this?
also can u plz elaborate on how to skip the campaign, or perhaps log in and help me? Also i understand that becuz i dont have nightfall i wont be able to get any heros? Is there a way to get better henchmen?
and i would love that minipet how do i dedicate it? do i just use it and a statue appears in HOM?

K, so you're very much at the start of the game, then the easiest way to get 10 HoM points is:
- buy a gold minipet (about 50k or 50,000 gold) for 2 points;
- get a pet to level 20 for 1 point;
- upgrade the armor for one of your heroes with a Deldrimor Armor Remnant for 1 point;
- complete either the Prophecies campaign or the Sorrow's Furnance elite area for 5 points;
- buy 1 elite armor for 1 point (either from the Eye of the North or from the Granite Citadel);
I can give you a Deldrimor Armor Remnant for free but you need to have the Eye of the North outpost. Actually, you will have to complete a large chunk of the Eye of the North expansion before you're allowed to add all of those statues to your HoM. I can also help you complete Sorrow's Furnance.
If you're going to do what I advised you to do, then you won't need my purple minipet.
Yes, Prophecies has the slowest levelling speed.
Sure, once you get to an outpost named Beacon's Perch, then I can run you to The Granite Citadel (so you can buy elite armor that you can add to your HoM) and then to Droknar's Forge (so you can continue the storyline).
Yes, you won't have any heroes unless you go to the Eye of the North. But trust me, it's better that you stick to using henchmen because your heroes can only use the skills and the equipment that you give them and you probably don't have many skills unlocked nor do you have money for their weapons and runes. The henchmen are not that bad, they should be fine.

Leveling in Prophecies is quite slow, best is probably just do as many of the skill quests you can along the way. If you feel mobs are a bit too hard, you can flag henchmen a bit ahead of you. Maybe change hotkeys so you can do it easily: One key to flag henchmen, other to clear flag. And don't forget to clear or you might risk running into next foes alone.
Helping Nicholas the Traveler with his weekly requests, you can get up to 5 Gift of the Traveler. Sometimes he might have very easy requests and be found along your way. Gifts can contain both gold and green minipets, weapons, sweets, alcohol or party items. No matter what you get, it will help you towards getting HoM points.
His remaining locations in the nearest 6 months can be found here: Nicholas the Traveler - Remaining Locations. I counted 10 times he will appear around Prophecies in that time.

how would i tag them infront of me? like i can command them to go in front of me? and do u guys think i should run through mobs during missions? How do i get new armor? it says that i should get better armor for higher lvl mobs? I go into ascalon city and when i click the armor smith guy, all of his items require additional square tattered hides to buy the armor, where do i get these. and how do i access the trading post to buy armors? BTW im a necro/ranger but if i use bow all of my magic skills go down in attack, but if i use staff i cant use some of the arrow skills, which would be better?

In Options (usually when you press F11), under the Control Tab, you can change the hotkeys to affect your henchmen and hero party. Look at this picture, set the hero flag commands to something you like.
For example Num1-3,Num0,Num. = Flag hero 1-3, Flag all, clear flag.
Pick something that you like, play around with it. It's extremely useful when you face mobs dealing lots of area damage, then you can flag out your heroes in a second so they all don't get hit at same time. (Henchmen can't be flagged individually though).

Hey Jaybi, if you need some extra help, let me know. I have all professions and skills unlocked and have plenty of hero's to get us through most of the missions.
If you have hero's in your party, you can click on these buttons under the radar map.
Then you can pin a flag down and your hero's will do all they can to move to that position. You can also send out up to 3 individual heros to specific locations. Thats useful if you are a caster type and want to send in your warrior hero first so he takes agro and sucks up damage.
If you open the command bar for your hero's, you can also disable/enable skills. Thats handy if you want to prevent them from doing something specific. But even more important are the 3 buttons to change their combat style. The sword icon is obvious, attack. But keep in mind that they will engage in combat with EVERY enemy in agro range. They also tend to be more reckless so I wouldn't recommend this setting.
The middle option, "guard" is best for damage dealing heros in my opinion. This means they'll engage in combat when they are attacked and they'll also follow when you call target (CTRL+spacebar when targetting an enemy).
The last icon "avoid combat" is what I put my Monk hero's on. I really don't want them to start throwing wand/staff balls around at enemies. I want them to stay behind ele's etc and just heal/protect and nothing else. When attacked, they should kite!
I think it's best to fight every mob on your normal path. You'll level up and have a potential to get nice loot. Battles usually don't take that long anyway except for some areas with powerful monks if you lack the essential roles and skills to counter it (Healing Hands boss in prophecies, my god did I spend ages there before factions was out and brought us better skills, lol).
I only run through mobs if I can reach a zone portal without dying.
You're playing Prophecies, right?
I'd go for the cheap armor upgrades in every town when possible, just to be on the same level as the enemies. But as soon as you reach Lions Arch, you could in fact travel to Cantha (Factions) and buy max level armor. That helps if you continue to play in Prophecies after reaching L.A.
Otherwise you'll have to wait till you reach Droknars Forge if I'm correct. Thats also the area where the outposts are for the once favored "15k armor". Some kind of "elite" clothing, adding nothing extra but the status of more expensive (and sometimes nicer looking) armor.
Of course the die hards among us went for "FoW" armor.
Thats one of the most expensive armors to obtain in an elite environment much much harder than anything you come across in the missions. Buuuut now I'm going in too deep and detailed. >_>
You can buy most stuff from NPC's. There's material traders and rare material traders. Or you could farm and salvage items to get the required materials, but I reckon most stuff isn't too expensive to buy just off the trader.
And where you find all of this, I'd say use guild wars wikipedia to find the locations.
Best is to focus on your primary profession role. At max level, some builds work well on other professions and give unusual combinations. A ranger with a hammer for example to benefit from certain aspects the Ranger is known for. But forget about that for now. Your main focus is plowing through the campaigns and as a Necromancer, you'll be most useful as either a minion master (death magic) raising an army of max 10 meatshields that you can animate from corpses all around. It's great for distracting the AI enemies and keep your own group safe.
Or else you can go for Curses and apply hexes such as Spiteful Spirit (once captured from a boss, or learned from using an Elite Necro tome). Curses magic lets you apply well.. curses, lol. And while often not dealing damage directly, it just helps the one affected by them to kill himself faster. So yea, its not like an Ele casting a spell and dealing direct damage to the target. Its a bit more tactical. Though, I must say I had most fun playing Necro way back in the days.
I'd find myself a good staff to give you a higher energy pool so you can cast more before running low on energy and leave the bow out of it.
(Tip: Keep a longbow in your inventory in case you want to pull an enemy away from a dangerous area. Flag your heros first, then get the bow to pop one arrow and run back to your heros, watch the enemy or enemy group chase you towards your team where you can pick them off one by one before proceeding).
I hope I explained things a bit well. Like I said, if you need a hand, let me know.

btw can i have ur in game name, so if i can pm u if i have any trouble? thanks!

You're welcome. And no worries, just ask.
Oh. Well I suggest upgrading the armor but you could continue with lower level armor, especially if you have level 20 people to help you out.
That said, it doesn't take much to upgrade your armor.
Here's a site that comes in handy.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Main_Page
If you look at the Necro armor page, and then click on say, Tyrian armor. You'll see what towns offer what armor, or rather.. what armor level they armor has and whats required.
As you can see, it'll take some time and missions before you can buy max level armor, thats why I always traveled to Kaineng (Factions) to buy cheap armor there. It has max armor level and protected my lower level characters way better than what others around me in Prophecies were wearing back in the days.
And how do you obtain materials like tanned hide squares? A click on the material on the page will tell you all the possible ways to obtain them. Easiest would be just buying from a material trader. And yep, that costs gold coins. But if you collect all the loot from enemies and sell that plus the rewards from quests and missions, you should have plenty to buy armor.
Also buy Identification kits and "identify" every colored item you pick up. Blue, purple and gold drops can become more valuable when selling to the merchant after you "id'd" them and the cost for an ID kit is quickly earned back.
Another thing to look out for are rare materials. Don't sell those to any regular merchant, but talk with the rare material traders to get more cash. A monstrous claw for example is worth over 1000 gold coins.
And one last thing: if you ever get lucky and find a vial of black dye, which new players/characters seem to get quite a few of, think before you apply those to your armor because those are worth a lot. 11K to buy a black dye, thats quite a sum for a starting player.
As soon as you learned a minion animating skill. There's a limit to how many minions you can have at a time though. In the very beginning there was no limit. Can you imagine one player followed by 20 of them meatshields?
It was a bit too good to be true so they nerfed it. Maximum 10 minions I believe it is now. Unless I'm mistaken and it's 11 if you boost the death magic level, but I'm not sure.
I loved playing minion master most as a necro. Every time something dies you get energy and with most enemies leaving a corpse for you to exploit, you have plenty of opportunity to raise your army, keep them alive and replace them in time before they collapse (since minions do have an expire date, lol, their health degeneration speeds up over time).
Sure. It's "Shiva Two Delta". Thats my main character, but I have 15 others so it's best to add me to your friends list so you can see what character name you can whisper me on.

Thats my main character, but I have 15 others so it's best to add me to your friends list so you can see what character name you can whisper me on.

so i understand that i loose a mission if my team dies once? btw shiva two delta when r u usually logged on, and where do i get new quests im almost done all quests at ascalon city but i cant complete fort ranik mission. Also any tips on getting gold, im trying to buy some new armor.

That's correct.
If the entire team is dead, the mission is failed as there are no resurrection shrines in missions, unlike in between towns where there are several shrines in each zone.
During a mission, if at least one teammember is still alive, the mission can still be completed, although the survivor better has a hard rez then.
Oo, that depends. I work part time and during my off days, I'm online at the most unusual times. 2.34am here and still on the comp.
I'll check Guild wars in a bit and no idea how late I'll stay on.
In every town you come across there'll be some NPC's with quests for you, as well as some npc's on the path in between outposts. Many of them are side-quests. Only the primary quests lead you to the next mission town mostly.
Tips to get gold, at your current level, that'd be just completing missions and quests. In the old days there were many popular farm spots. Most of them got nerfed, lol. Then people came up with something new till that got nerfed as well.
By the way, if you don't mind a level 20 by your side for the mission, I can help you through. But it'll be more of a "watch things die in 1 second" kind of thing which isn't always as fun. >_<
