DROX RUN w/o getting scammed...

ok, I've played as a Necro and Monk for a long time and decided to make a Warrior about 2 weeks ago. I wanted to try the Drox run since it was so challenging to alot of my guildies and others in the game. Amazingly enough I made the 1st 3 runs in a row with my guild as a dual runner thing. Then I started doing it solo and did it quite a few times & b4 I knew it I got it down pat to the point where I can I have no problems unless there is really bad spawn.

I now go to Beacons and do the run for others, but have already been scammed 3 times in 5 nights. People just get to Drox and put you on ignore and drop from the party. I mean I can't believe scams happen that often... I'm so frustrated with it that I don't even know if I will do the run again. How do you do this run w/o getting scammed and w/o making the payer feel like they won't get scammed ? You could say pay at Snakes, but they will think you might dip... I wish there was some sort of way that you could offer a service in GW & nobody gets scammed...

1.5k at snakes dance
1.5k at camp rankor

1.5k at snakes dance
1.5k at grenths portal (although you get called a scammer sometimes >.<)

I've tried that but one person left at Rankor and I only got 1.5K from him at Snakes. I guess cuz the run is so ez from Rankor to Drox the hard part is done and they leave. I'm prolly gonna start chargin' 2K at Snakes and 1K at Rankor, but it's hard to put your trust in ppl who are two-faced about the whole thing.. Ya know it's just really pathetic & low to make someone waste their time on doing that long & sometimes hard azz run only to ditch you w/o even a thank you or payment. I hate feeling used and that's just what I can't get past. I mean 3K is nothing in this inflated economy it shouldn't even be going on..

When I get a run to Droks, they've always charged 1/2 at Snake Dance and 1/2 at Rankor. After Rankor, it's a breeze to run and most people now know that. You should do that and make them show you the money up front too. I don't mind paying the runner that way and have never been scammed by one. Well, once a Monk runner tried to charge me twice for a run to Grotto, but I think that was just because he was stupid.

yah, well I've heard alot about Drox runners scamming & now I'm starting to think it's reverse! I will never ask for the money in Drox and prolly not Rankor cuz I don't want to be taken advantage of...

I usually charge for tips. I'll get anywhere from 343 gold (whatever they have left, poor saps) to 9k for one run. If you ask for a certain amount ahead of time, you'll either get that or you won't get that at all. I actually had one guy have me come back a few hours later to give me even more money.

ya most people are charging at snake and rankor now. and ya scammers are the worse. theres no way to avoid them they plague the game making it no fun for others. ive been scamed once or twice while running in the desert so ive resorted to running for tips when i do run. i get payed alrite when i do run for tips and also if someone leaves its not like the scammed me they just got a free run which is fine w/ me. but if i ask for a certain amount i feel bad cause they eitehr scam me whcih pisses me off or they use all the money they have left.

You know what you're getting into when you charge for runs. Scamming should come as no surprise to anyone.

what would they want in droknar without money ?

Try charging 1/2 at snake's and 1/2 at GF. If a person refuses to pay just run to war camp and drop him there. He has gotten as far as his scamming days will bring him

Problem with Grenth's Footprint. Many people tend to lag out there.

Problem is, not many are trusting runners neither, seeing as some as soon as they get to snakes, they get paid, then map out.

Yeah thats how me and my chums do it, we ask for 1K at first portal and 2K at next.

HOWEVER somebody thought they were smart, and so they thought they would try to bamboozle me and my friend. Now we told the 4 friends that we were running and at each portal we would be paid, told all the details, asked EVERY player if they understood our terms. We also told them that we had done this run MANY times, and if one player didn't pay, we would not hesitate to restart the mission and boot the player that did not pay. They ALL agreed. However at the first portal after 3 had payed us the first 1K, someone thought it would be so awesome to not pay us, so he told us " You guys are such scammers, you will just run with my money, Ill pay full at rankor ".

So were sitting there, everybody is yelling at the man to give us our fair money. He doesen't. Well I would rather quit GW than see a player get away free from my hard work, so we restarted the mission after the first door. And man did he go Bisserk!

Well folks, it dont get easyer after that first door, this got to me about 5 minutes later right about when we had got to the door again.

Him: YOU GUYS ARE SUCH F****** SCAMMERS, YOU WOULD HAVE RAN WITH MY MONEY AND YOU KNOW IT. F****** MORONS

Then some of our passengers told us how they were getting spammed by the kid, how he was telling them how we were waisting their time by restarting the run. They all put him on ignore from what I heard.

So aparently he thought we were bluffing and didnt think we would restart. But he was in for a nice suprise. Now he will have to pay somebody ATLEAST 3K ( thats smallest price I have ever seen, other than the scammers who normally say like 500 or 1000 in advance, then just run ). When he could have just reasoned with us and got to Droks like he wanted.

So people DONT EVER expect pay from rankor, they will run and ignore faster than you can even think of collecting pay. If they dont agree to their terms, simply threaten that you will restart ( before mission starts ofcoarse ).

Runners are generaly more trustworthy that people being ran because they have a reputation to think of. How easy it would be to spam in general chat if someone scammed you!... most runners wont risk that. Most build up a reputation that pays for itself by being a sucesseful honest runner.

Just yell that the scammer is giving away free items in Ascalon City, Lion's Arch etc. Works great, just don't put the scammer on ignore yet, watch his reaction first

Nothing, without money. However, you'd be surprised how many players go on the run with little to no money to spare. Why do you think Droknar's Forge is the #1 place in the game for beggars, topping even Lion's Arch in my opinion? So many people make the run, then don't have the money to spend on armor and skills.

People are stupid to charge at snakes, any idiot can run to snakes with ease 90% of the time. People should charge 3k at grenths as grenths is close enough to droknars to make sure you wont get scammed anyway who can get to grenths can easily make the rest of the run, whereas snakes is just to easy to get to and rankor is scam land

Lornar's Pass to Snake Dance is really the only HARD part of the whole run. Only a Moron would Die on the way from Snake Dance to Droknar's after already making it through the pass. (This is why Rankor is the major Scam depot. Rankor to Droknar's is nothing)

Snake is the safest place because I don't know any runner that will waste time going all the way to Snakes just for half the payment, or 1k, however they split up the payment.

2K at Snake Dance, 1K at Camp Rankor sounds most fair to me, though 1.5K at Snake Dance, 1.5K at Camp Rankor is the thing most runners accept. You can't help from being scammed by people not paying in Rankor, it's the only option if you'd ask me, though.

I got home from work and had a few minutes to kill before dinner so I decided to beat up on some Ettins. I get whispered (by chance I was doing some screen shots of the ettins and their drops, I got this guys whisper in a screen shot even) for a request to be run to droks. Normally when someone singles you out like that when your not even at Beacons spamming for runs, they are legit, because someone has given you a good reference. They guy offered 10k, standing in Beacons this would have been a red flag, but an unsolicited request I figured the guy was legit. I meet him in Beacons after I eat and he has another guy with him. I ask him is the 10k for both of you, and he says yes, we will pay when we get there. Once again, this was an unsolicited request, so I didnt think twice of it, and paying AT droks has always been my policy anyway.

Fast foward to Droks, we pop in to town, I look up and he is out of the party, when I attempted to question his where abouts, I got the ignored message. Needless to say I was hot. Hell I still am.

This single event has changed the way I will do future Droks runs. It will be payment in full at Grenths, or an aborted run. No more bs.

I noramly run for free but when i'm running low on gold i ask for half at snake and half at camp. I had one person who refused to pay at snake, me beening me just to annoy the non payer i asked the other four to meet me at becon's and i would run them free of charge i got a few insults of how he was about to pay ect. But it was quite clear he wasn't he was running round in circles and kept closing the trade window when i opened it.

Dunno why, but I waited around for someone who'd accept the last bit of payment at droknars... something about being stranded at Rancor was in my mind at the time.

Now, while I'm normally not for being run anywhere, I did get my lvl16 necro run there for no good reason other than I wanted to see the run done seeing as I prefer the collectors armor to the stuff droknars has.

So I dunno.. I guess if you guys charge somewhere along the way and then the last bit at droknars, maybe it'll work out better? It would certainly make me trust runners more.

The best way to avoid scammers IMO is to take a leaf out of the UW strategy guide on this site.
You would never just grab the nearest 7 ppl and rush into UW without saying a word to them (well, maybe you would- it would be an interesting experiment I suppose, if brief), and you probably wouldn't make the effort to get a good team if you hadn't got enough time to commit to doing it properly.

Equally, when running for cash I find the scammers are usually the ones who try to push you into leaving in a hurry or are uncommunicative. Chatting while you are putting the group together and getting to know people a little gives you a much better feel for whether you are carrying a parasite. You can also make some good friends, which is worth any amount of being scammed.

Several of my runner friends and I have adopted a zero tolerance policy on scammers at Snakes- those ppl who spontaneously decide that they will only pay you at Ramkor/Droks, or less than was agreed. Either they hand over somre realistic collaterol (their custom weapons and armour are favourite) to be returned on full payment, or you restart the whole run with the rest of the group in Beacons.

I still get scammed at Rankor every so often as a side effect of how often I run, but to be honest I just accept that as one of the risks of the job. If you have had half payment at Snakes then at least you didn't waste time completely.

I have little tolerance for idiots and will restart a run (or a mission), regardless of how far in to it I am, to drop a perceived idiot from the group. Doesn't matter where I am, or how much money they were offering, 'cause all the money in the game doesn't make up for their lack of a brain. If someone doesn't follow the rules of my run, then I don't run them. If someone's pestering me to GOGOGO! I drop them instantly. Some people get really upset about this and a few have messaged me with complaints about being singled out. Thems the breaks though. I've done it to my fellow Guildmates, so I've no problems whatsoever doing it to anyone else.

I would recommend charging two thirds of your price at Snakes and the final third at Rankor, when doing Droks runs. IMO, the run TO Rankor is the only "difficult" part of the run and thus worth the most money. I've not been scammed doing it this way. If someone decides not to pay at Rankor then it's no big deal, as they've paid for their run up to that point already. I just drop them and move on.
