Would people be banned?
70Skydiver
Hey I am wondering because someone I know (not going to say any names) has recently bought some GW 1 money / items and I was wondering whether they still ban people on GW 1 for this kind of thing. I have only found stuff from 5 years ago so that isn't much of a help.
Any help is appreciated just want to see if my friend will be banned at all or suspended for a while.

To be absolutely honest, and sadly speaking,
I don't think at this current state of the game, they monitor the game close enough to really catch the people that do buy or sell in game items. All we can do is hope for the best.

So what your saying is that he most likely won't get caught as they don't monitor Guild Wars 1 much any more?

No, you won't get caught, 'diver.
Not unless the admins here pass your I.P. to GW and drop a hint

if you stand in gtob you will usually find a rmt seller--they have been there since before wintersday (and were in kamadan thru most of it as well), dont think they ever got nuked, even though TONS of people reported them.
Still, just because they may not be actively banning people ingame, doesnt mean they wont ban people (they said they werent going to do anymore updates and yet since that announcement they have done a few!).

Thanks for the replies all. I'll tell my friend that he doesn't have much chance of being caught but to be careful anyway. thanks.

oh and Phineas if you were dropping a hint about sending the admins my ip then don't as I am not buying anything because I like to play legit on my games and not cheat by spending real cash on items / money and the account I play on it like 7 years old and my dads old account (his first one); so I have no plan on even thinking of buying anything as it would risk a history for my dad.

odds are he wont be banned; And buying money in guild wars to try and get an ingame advantage doesnt make too much sense to me since you cant really buy success in guild wars (yes you can buy cons, pcons, runners, etc.) but cash gives no advantage in pvp where people would actually care.
MaxBorken
He should be banned.
But he probably won't be.

Afterthought:
It is people buying gold / ectos / armbraces with real world money combined with Anet not bothering to do anything about it which will bring the game down. (Of course I understand the financial and business reasons for not deploying resources to stamp it out).
It's a shame, buy gold buyers/sellers are strangling the economy, and that will kill the game.

The only bans are due to /report or email, otherwise I don't think there's any coz of auto-detect..

Someone's account may have been hacked so he could buy stuff.
Either way it's a bad thing

lets say the GM's are less active with banning, but i doubt they left GW like that
there is a difference between "automated the game" and "leave the game online without looking back at all" and they did the first one (even though people make it sound like the second one)

they dont seem to be taking a very active role anylonger...as I mentioned, over the wintersday holiday there was a player actively doing rmt stuff---he was reported repeatedly, yet after 2 weeks was still there (as well as never having moved from the spot, usually rmt guys jump in and text then leave).....
so perhaps there are things they care about more than rmt now, but either way, just because the police arent around doesnt mean you should run the red light.

Afaik, the ingame report system uses the [email protected] email system. When it went down all ingame reports got redirected to the big black hole in internetland. If it hasn't come back up (I have no idea; I haven't had to use it), you'll need to report rmt sellers via other means.

well, that could explain a lot then....so glad they are on top of these things.

What else can we expect from a company who abandons an excellent game and its loyal players to focus all their attention on an in my opinion very boring game as a whole..

Well, in happier news, the HoM calculator got fixed (the images returned on the main page, allowing the page to be spaced as needed for the counter to be viewed). Of course, it could just have been some happy accident that had no direct intervention from Anet, but it's nice in any case.

XD Let's all be glass half full people instead of empty! Oddly the fact that it was broken did bother me for some time haha.
With the current state of Guild Wars, with all the bots I see, I really don't see why they just don't release the server files so people could create their own servers, it would be something interesting to see.

I think the Test Krewe should be back with added powers. Selected trusted volunteers with powers to be able to skill balance the game. Hopefully together with the community.
Also the ability to "investigate" bot behaviors with one final executor at Anet staff (even if it's just the janitor left running the servers)
