In-game shop change
Leot
Update - Thursday, June 26, 2014
Fixed the timing of the Halloween and Anniversary Festivals.
The In-Game Store has been removed from the game and replaced with a link to the new Web Store, which will be available soon. In-game links to the In-Game Store have been replaced with links to the Web Store.
Replaced empty error screens in account management with links to the Support website.
So, basically Arenanet is changing the location of the shop. Instead of accessing the shop in-game (and via the NCSoft site) you can now access the store via store.guildwars.com;
I don't know why they did this, but it was probably done to prevent confusion of players wether they had to go to the ingame store or log in to their ncsoft accounts and purchase stuff there. Since players already had to login to NCSoft to change their passwords it was easier to link to one location anyway.
Good stuff:
*Paying with PayPal is still possible.
*You can actually see the access keys of the accounts you buy now (thus being able to 'gift'), instead of only being able to use them for accounts linked to your Ncsoft-account.
But now, I don't understand the following things:
*Why is there always only ONE featured product, the Guild Wars: Platinum Edition? Wouldn't it be much better to make some kind of automated system that changes the featured products from time to time, so it actually MAKES SENSE?
*Why is Factions suddenly 5 euros more expensive than it used to be (20 euros instead of 15)
*Why is Factions suddenly more expensive than Nightfall? (A.k.a. what makes Nightfall worth less?)
*Why are prices raised anyway? At this state of the game it is VERY weird to raise prices, I didn't expect that to happen. I totally laughed my ass off when I noticed Eye of the North is suddenly 2 euros MORE expensive than platinum edition, which is essentially eotn+prophecies.
*Why do I get sent back to the Guild Wars main site after completing a purchase and pressing the "back to store" button? The main site also doesn't have ANY button to redirect you, and I don't expect that to be added soon, so don't be suprised.
No, I am not positive about this change, and suspect it all to be part of Arenanet's current "We don't give a shit about this dying game"-policy.
Especially not about the less than subtle attempt to raise prices in a completely random manner.

Factions is always worth more than Nightfall because Nightfall sucked ^_^.

It has come to our attention that a bug affected the June Monthly Automated Tournament which allowed players to gain an unfair advantage over their opponents. After careful review we have confirmed this to be the case and have removed the gold cape trim given out by the Automated Tournament system. |

They've screwed over us Brits with this. We don't use Euros in the UK, and yet all the prices on the site are in Euros. I did a bit of maths and us Brits will be paying more for everything now the prices are in Euros which, to be blunt, is a pisstake when the game's this old. A £6.99 item has now turned into £7.20, a £9.99 item has turned into £10.41... Small amounts I know, but it adds up and it's the principle of the whole thing as well. I was planning on buying some Mercenary Heroes, a couple more character slots and 4 storage panels for my alt account. Unless Anet change this, they can go fornicate with themselves vigorously with a barbed wire wrapped pinecone. I've always praised Anet for being a decent company but this really cops the piss.

Bah, it's only a change to make more profit out of the game. Disappointed.

Extracted prices and calculated the price difference in a spreadsheet.
BOLD column shows the lowest price, based on currency conversion on xe.com
Nightfall is quite interesting, it's +47% more expensive in USD than in EUR.
My guess is they forgot to add a discounted value on the US price list.
IT IS possible to use an online proxy to get the best price, but just make sure a proxy can come with risks. In any case, make sure any credit cards details are transferred over https. But that's common sense, right? Right.

EDIT: Looked at the old prices listed on wiki (which most likely will change soon.)
ASSUMING the listed prices on wiki were correct, here's some interesting differences.

ASSUMING the listed prices on wiki were correct, here's some interesting differences.
- Most obvious is of course there's no longer any £-prices.
- Eye of the North is now €3 cheaper, no change in $.
- Game of the Year edition is €11 cheaper, no change in $.
- Guild Wars Platinum wasn't available in the old ingame store.
- Trilogy is now $10 cheaper, €-price unknown.
- Rainment of the Lich Costume is no longer available.
- PvP Access Kit is now $0.05 cheaper (YAY!), no change in €.

I think the wiki has very old prices, actually some euro prices have increased after the shop change. I clearly remember when I bought the game, GW:EN was 14.99€, now it's 17.99€. Factions and Nightfall were 14.99€ each, now Factions is 19.99€. Not so much more expensive, but still an annoying increase in my opinion.
Bristlebane
I wouldn't buy a campaign/expansion from there anyway. Was about to get Nightfall for my 6th account, it costs €8.60 in my local game shop compared to €14.99 in gw store.
Only reason for now to buy from gw store would be if I met a hot chick in GW and wanted to gift her some costumes and a dozen of character slots and xunlai panes.
(Yes, it was a joke lol)

Ok, I'm not a hot chick.
On topic though....
Did you hear the joke about the software company who wanted to kill off a no-longer supported game's playerbase while discouraging others from buying it too?
They raised the prices for no apparent reason without maintaining or adding any customer support or new content.
*aplause*
It's such a shame to read this, because I fell in love with this game 8 years ago, and I still love it. My guild is on a mission to locate and preserve the finest items known to exist because we all fell in love with it.

Oh I know this one! Oh.. wait, it's my favorite game, we're screwed!
Then again no other game has ever given me more entertainment when it comes to money I invested in it. If they raised money to discourage players to buy it, it's a very weak effort because this game is still great!

I wouldnt buy from the ingame store either---now I have added reasons not to (the game always costs less anyplace else---got my copies either locally for about $15 for the whole set--minus eye, which is why I have some without eye, too blinken expensive for very little return). Had not planned on getting the 'extras' anymore either--have one account with all the bells and whistles is plenty for me, now I am 10000% positive I wont buy anything else.
edit: the lich costume no longer being available is probably an error on their end...the janitor probably forgot to include it.

funny how trilogy and 1 campaign cost the same now

I liked it as it was. I could log in to an account, go to the store, and see what I did not have. Now I have to be careful not to purchase something I already have on a certain account.

Have some news from Guild Wars Wiki:
Hope this helps.

A lot of the costumes are still missing from the new store, anyone know if they will ever return? I posted a reply to that message from Stephane above.
Bristlebane
I doubt it, but it would have been nice
bsoltan
Well what do you know. Even though I contacted support and they told me the costumes were discontinued I saw on /r/GuildWars today that the full compliment of costumes have appeared back on the store. Meant I could pick up the Shining Blade and White Mantle ones I was missing.
Ayuhmii Shanbwa
nice, i'm glad i already bought the shining blade one
maybe i'll get the white mantle one for fun (except i wont use the headpiece, like with most other costumes)
i might also buy a few others in time, as i dont have much money, so i gotta buy 1 per month if i want them
well, i'm glad i dont need to go out and buy a paysafecard like back then, as this store also accepts ideal (european safe way of paying online), which i can use at home (lazy)
by the way, why is that Wedding Couple Attire worth more than the rest? oh well, i got the better looking one(imo).... called Formal Attire
maybe i'll buy them all (i got several) one by one(except for dapper tuxedo), but first the last merc hero slot, hehe
just playing around with costumes and see what i like most for certain chars
the only thing thats not back, is the kormir one, hmm, lets hope they put it back
anyway, glad all (except kormir costume) of what i might buy, is back
for now, lets wait for the Augur of Kormir to return..... or at least hope it comes back
thanks for the update

was talking to someone ingame and they said they couldnt buy more than one character slot or storage at a time. So I tried it myself and unless I am missing something I am not seeing that you can buy more than one per purchase. (player I was talking to said they had done so when it first changed but couldnt now). I did not complete the transaction so perhaps its someplace after you put in your payment method---
